Chapter 111

Gabriel was huffing and puffing in the center of the room while he waited for an answer. Our eyes were locked in an intense glare from where I lay on the blood-soaked carpet with the metallic scent continuously seeping up my nose- and when I slowly got up I tried not to slip on the wet floor or trip over their bodies. The blood under my feet made the floor into an ice rink, I lost balance and saw Gabe’s hand twitch to reach out but I steadied myself.

Without answering him I removed my teddy and threw it in the trash, I was never putting on something like that again.

I walked over and grabbed a black long-sleeved shirt from the closet, it hugged my body and wouldn’t flutter around while I ran. I paired it with a pair of tights that I could run and fight in and then I headed for the door.

“Hold up! Where the fuck is Darian?” He walked beside me and matched my speed.

“I don’t know and honestly, Gabe, I couldn’t care less about his whereabouts,” I spat and hurried through the palace.

“Would you stop for a second!”

His voice was loud and echoing through the halls but I didn’t slow down. All I knew was that I needed to leave, I needed to get as far away from the memory of this place as possible.

As long I stayed here I was still on their territory and though they ruled Valeria I was safer outside of their borders.

“STOP!” Gabe grabbed my arm, pulled me back, and slammed me against the wall just before I reached the last few stairs. His face twisted with untamed anger and the darkness swam on the surface of his eyes.

“Go ahead, hit me! Or chain me up and force me to stay here,” I spat and scoffed when I saw more similarities than I would’ve wanted, “You two really are cut from the same cloth aren’t you,”

His eyes fell and his brows furrowed as he searched my face.

“I would never…wha… what happened in there? Where is Darian and where are you going?”

The nerve on this man.

“What happened was; I was fucked over and stabbed in the back by yet another man and then almost raped by five more. Do you want details?”

He gritted his teeth to dust and dug his fingers into my arms while pressing me back onto the wall.

“I need to know where he is,” he seethed.

“Fine, tell me then what he meant when he said ‘she’s alive’?”

Gabe’s face fell and his mouth rounded. “Who the fuck is ‘she’, Gabe? Who is alive?” I cried out with tears pressing against the back of my eyes.

A breath left his lips and his eyes flickered over my face.

“They’re going to kill him,” he exclaimed desperately.

My eyes were hooded and I felt the emotions draining from me, too tired to care about anything at this point I let my head fall back against the wall.

“And what a loss that will be,”

Gabe raised his head and my words awoke the monster within. His eyes shifted in an obsidian sea and his nostrils flared while he drew to his fullest height.

“Mathilda is alive. Darian never killed her, he did to her what he was supposed to do to you,”

I trashed under his grip- Trixy moved up and growled in a warning but Gabe’s cold glare was evidence enough that he wouldn’t let go.

if what he said was true- then Mathilda was out there somewhere, alone.

But I refused to believe it. I saw her cold, blue body against the white sheets in her bed, and the smell, it…it was unforgettable. I recognized the smell of decay, we were surrounded by it every day in our packs. It couldn’t be mistaken for anything else which meant that he was lying to me.

No matter how much I squirmed under his hold, Gabe didn’t let go, he only tightened his grip and pressed me back harder and I whimpered when his fingers dug into my skin.

“I don’t believe you,” the first tear fell but it wasn’t out of sadness, it was anger and stress over Gabe’s lies.

“Darian couldn’t kill her, but he knew they’d want proof so he used a homegrown Aconitum flower. It simulates death in a person but the effects are reversible if caught in time,”

I scoffed and narrowed my eyes, looking at him through my tear-filled eyes.

If what Gabe said was true and Mathilda was alive then I had been here all this time while she was hidden away somewhere without our parents or me.

She was all alone. It was different than me being alone, I’m eighteen with a wolf, and I can take care of myself but Mathilda’s just a child.

“I swear on the gods if you’re fucking with me-”

“I wouldn’t,” he growled.

Trixy pushed forth and we raised our hands between Gabe’s arms and slammed them aside to get out of his grip.

Gabe fell back a step but reached out before I could run and grabbed my wrist. He pulled me back and I flew down on the floor; before I could get up he was on top of me, pinning my hands beside my head with his eyes glowing in a golden-brown hue.

For a moment I forgot that that he was a Lycan too.

“Where do you think you’re going?” He growled.

“To find my sister,”

I glowered at him to make him understand that under no circumstances would I stop trying to get out of there to find her- even if it meant fighting a Lycan prince in his home. I was prepared for a full-on bloody battle but Gabe sat up and released my hands before slowly standing and reaching out his hand for

“Darian is the only one who knows where she is,”
