Chapter 117

“Holy shit- Hazel, don’t move!”

I whipped my head up, stared him dead in the eye, and held in my scream. That was the suckiest advice I’ve ever heard. Of course, I’m not moving when I have a snake about to make me his next meal.

“Gabe,” I whimpered when I felt it squeeze its long body around my leg. The pressure of its muscles slithering over me and the hissing while it flicked its split tongue arose a fear in me that I didn’t know I had. The serpent’s eyes stared into my soul while its venomous fangs glistened each time it widened its jaws and I did not want to know what snake poison could do to a werewolf- especially not after seeing what it did a Lycan.

“Shh, you’re okay. Arch, what the fuck is this?” Gabe glared at the Elder and this was the first time ever that I heard his name.

“This,” the Elder reached out his hand and gestured for the snake, “is Kai,”

It has a name?

The Elder’s polished shoes shone under the fire and he entwined his fingers showing off a golden signet ring.

The snake circled my thigh, it was going up my front and snaking around my waist. Holy fuck, breath, just breathe.

“Gabe, please!”

“Shit,” he moved in and reached out his hands to grab the snake when he suddenly froze in the air, inches away from salvation.

“I wouldn’t do that. Kai only answers to his master, touching him will only make him kill her faster,”

Faster?

I looked at Gabe and his face fell when he saw the fear brimming on the surface of my eyes, it pained him not being able to help me but I’m pretty sure it pained me more.

The Elder stopped next to Gabe and cocked his head with a spiteful smile stretching across his face.

The fire flickered calmly, lighting up the gloomy room and the silence was deafening around us while the only sound came from Kai’s hissing while he moved up my arm.

“Stop this!” Gabe seethed but Elder was not affected in the slightest. If anything he enjoyed watching the torment that the little reptile caused without even

biting.

I looked into his serpent eyes and was hypnotized by the hissing tongue but then it occurred to me where I’d seen this snake before. The colors and shapes of the snake’s scales were unique.

“His master is Zade,” I said and looked at Gabe. Before I could blink, the snake circled my neck and squeezed his body tighter to close my airways. I grabbed it and tried to pull but the panic was rising rapidly and when I saw Kai’s face in front of my own and he broadened his jaws I couldn’t keep myself calm

anymore.

Just when a scream rose in my throat about to peel from my lips, my voice died down and so did my breaths and my lips parted in a silent gasp.

The last thing I saw before my head was forced back and I looked up at the ceiling was Gabe’s golden eyes and his fangs extended while he turned to the Elder and everyone was stunned when a loud howl pushed through the walls to the office. Black spots formed in my vision and my eyes rolled into the back of my head while I lost balance and fell against the floor.

“Stop this or I swear-”

“What? What do you have to negotiate with, Gabriel?”

Everything went dark when I felt a puff of air going down my lungs and a flow starting in my throat while Kai loosened his grip on my neck. His scales shimmered in purple and blue as he slithered down my chest and disappeared onto the floor. Why did he stop? A few more seconds and I would’ve passed out so what stopped Kai from killing me?

“Good boy,” I heard his voice and it all made sense.

I turned my head to the side and looked up in time to see the slithering little fucker disappear into Zade’s arm and cover his skin in a tattoo.

Those calculating eyes that brimmed with a cocky pride were not what I looked into at the club, they weren’t the same, and he wasn’t the same.

“He’s always been the same, I tried to warn you,” Trixy growled.

I did feel bad for not listening to her, it could’ve spared a lot of people a lot of pain but what’s done is done and all I can do now is fix my mistakes and then get the fuck out.

“I should’ve listened to you,” I admitted.

“Hazel Grey,” Zade walked towards me.

He scanned my face as though in search of something and as soon as I’ve taken more than two deep breaths, I’m going to tell him to fuck off.

A shadow covered the ground and in the next moment, Gabe’s back was facing me as he got in between us.

“That’s close enough,” he warned.

“You haven’t told him,” Zade said with a vicious grin.

I scrambled on the floor and stood slowly while the blood rushed from my head.

Gabe looked at me, his hand jerked when I swayed on my feet but I steadied myself and subtly shook my head at him, telling him to stay put.

“Told me what?” Gabe took a step back to shield me from whatever malicious thing was coming next.

“As a sign of good fate we are willing to spare one life, the choice of who is yours,” the Elder said.

“What the fuck are you saying?”

“I’m saying that you can choose to either walk away with your brother or with Hazel,”
