Chapter 120

Gabe took his claws out and I covered the wound with a white napkin that quickly turned crimson.

He glared at me one last time before looking at the woman like all the others did, pretending like he didn’t want to kill each and every one of them.

That’s a life, a woman who everyone was looking at like a caged animal..

Her screams made my stomach churn but then I saw how the men around the table got up and fear settled in like second nature.

The Elder spoke so all would hear but he didn’t rise from the table.

“This human was seen lingering around the border five months ago, believed to be a spy for the humans and carrying that,”

The Guard behind her took out a knife.

“Made entirely of silver with a compartment for wolfsbane,” the Elder finished.

Five months ago- had they been keeping her alive just to kill her at the right time?

“We have a, shall we say initiation policy, for our newest members who will one day take over and whose voices will be the loudest in Valeria. For that to happen they must all share our equal values regarding…” his lips pulled back over his teeth and his eyes turned with a hatred brimming brighter than the flames on the candles. “…regarding humans and their waste of air existence in Valeria. They are bugs that must, at times, be squished under the foot of the superior species to know their place. Therefore we offer one at every initiation and the Councilmen may do to the human whatever they please,”

I swallowed bile that rose but another round was coming up and I couldn’t sit here any longer.

One of the men grabbed her hair and pulled her up on her feet. He pressed her back and grabbed her shirt, ripping it apart in his hands and exposing her front.

Another walked up and dragged his hands down her front before ripping her pants clean off.

“I can’t,” my voice was no louder than a whisper and this time Gabe didn’t try to stop me. His eyes flickered over the men that were attacking the girl and I pushed back the chair and got up.

Just when I stepped back about to leave I felt something snaking around my waist and saw his tattoo-covered hand grab my hip as he stood behind me. He leaned down, his eyes locked on the girl as he dragged his lips up the side of my neck and pulled me back against him. Gabe turned his head and pushed the chair out so hard it fell on the floor.

When I tried to step away he just tightened his grip and his lips still hovered by my ear.

“Let me go, Zade,” I cursed the tremble in my voice and gritted my teeth when he chuckled behind me.

His hand slid around my front and his other hand came around my neck.

Gabe stepped in but something sharp against my throat made him stop and glare without taking another step.

“I wouldn’t,” he warned and locked eyes with Gabe, “It’s not my call, she has to watch.”

Zade pinned my arms down and his hand around my throat was forcing my head back against him.

There was a screeching sound ringing in my ears and I looked around to see if anyone else heard it but they seemed unbothered while I clenched my jaw and focused on the sound.

‘Hazel’

His voice filled my mind like a welcomed calm which was odd, his was the voice I most connected with fear and danger.

‘Darian?’

Chapter 120

‘What the fuck are you doing in the Council?’ He growled angrily.

‘Believe it or not, I’m here for you’

There was a long silence that echoed against the walls of my mind.

‘You’re scared, I can feel it. Why?’

I took a shaky breath and squired in Zade’s hold trying to get free.

“They have a human girl and they’re hurting her’ I cried out.

‘Find a spot that won’t move, a painting or a lamp’

‘What good will that do?’

‘Do what I say’

Behind them was a silver lamp covered in emerald glass.

‘Do you have it?’

‘Aha’

‘Good, now listen to my voice and hear nothing else. Focus on that spot and don’t take your eyes of it no matter what you hear or what breaks the path of your vision. I’m right here’

I felt my lips pulling back but I stopped it, I couldn’t smile, not for him. There was an attraction that I couldn’t describe or understand even if I tried or maybe I just didn’t want to understand- not after everything he’s done.

The sound of her moans was muffled and for a second a man broke my eye contact with the lamp and I flickered my gaze over the gathering of men around

the girl.

‘Eyes on the spot, Hazel. Listen to my voice. Was it Gabriel that brought you?’

‘That depends’

‘On what?’

‘Are you going to kill him if I say yes?’

‘Yes’ It was a simple word spoken in a promise.

“Then no’

He chuckled and the sound nearly brought tears to my eyes, maybe it was him added onto everything else but it wasn’t a sound I’d heard before outside of cruel enjoyment.

I felt something sharp cutting into my neck and cried out as pain overcame me in an instant.

“Tell him I said hi,” Zade seethed lowly from behind me, and whatever that was that he cut me with sent a burning pain up my neck and into my head, breaking the mind link.

The Alpha’s Hunt

Chapter 121

He grabbed a fistful of my hair and pulled my head back. It felt like my scalp was being peeled off and my hair being pulled from the roots while his other hand released my arms and circled my neck- I realized that it was his claw that had dug into my throat and sent the poison into my skin.

“Why does the Elder care if I watch?” I seethed.

The Elder was leaned back in his chair not sparing us a single glance- he didn’t seem to mind whether I watched or not.

Zade chuckled behind me and looked at the Elder- I drew a breath and held it when he rested his hand on my collarbone and his claw scraped the surface of my skin.

“He doesn’t,” he said behind me.

I tried to whip my head around but I couldn’t move. The smell of melting wax and oak swirled around us and it mixed with the scent of the human girl.

They passed her around like a rag doll, each one taking their turn and I watched in numbing horror as they bent her over the table and one of the men grabbed a candle from its holder. He smirked and chewed on his bottom lip while he tipped it over her back, letting the wax drip down her skin, and laughed when her body jerked and she whimpered beneath him. I winced and tried to shut my eyes but each time I closed them, Zade made another cut in my skin.

“Gabriel,” The Elder called,

Every imaginable comment passed through my mind of what he could possibly want when Gabe turned to face him with flaring nostrils and ragged breaths.

“Would like to do the honors?”

A somber shadow flashed in Gabe’s eyes for a second and he turned a heavy head to look at the girl

She was held back against one of the men and he kissed her neck while tears fell in a trail down by wha

“This is after all, not your first time,” the Elder rasped out

“What is he asking you to do?” I asked in an exhale but was met with a godě zalemun

Gabe walked alongside the table and dragged his fingers over the tablecloth. He touched the time of the plates and graced his fingers over the silverware until he felt the sharp teeth of a knife and dragged his hand down the handle before he grabbed it on his way

“Gabe?” My voice broke in question and everyone watched in silence as he continued over to the naked girl who stuck her chin out, sweat dripped down her face and her heavy breaths grew ragged the closet he got.

She stared daggers at him as he neared her and Gabe held the knife close to his side. The girl stuck her chin out and the hatred shone in her eyes, enlarged by the tears that had yet to fall. In the corner of my eye was one of the Bells, she held her head way down, much more than the others and when I watched her chest I could tell that she was holding her breath.

“I’m sorry,” Gabe’s voice was strong and monotone but his eyes held hers in a plead for forgiveness.

“No, you’re not. You’re all monsters, hating on humans because you fear that we will do to you what you do to us. You’re pathetic! All of you” her jaw dropped and the unshed tears in her rounded eyes fell gently down her face.

Gabe put his other hand on her shoulder and twisted the steak knife before he let go, his hand dropped to his side and the girl fell to her knees, staring mindlessly at the floor before her body slumped on the carpet.

A pool of blood was quickly forming around her body and the carpet soaked much of it up as everyone stood around and watched. Five seconds; that’s how long it took for them to move on and continue the festivities; five seconds.

Gabe hung his head and looked at her for a little longer and then he turned around and came back to me.

The others twirled the girls and removed the lace sheets that covered nothing of their skin and they started dancing, kissing, touching, and living like they hadn’t just takes a life much weaker than them.
