 Chapter 124

“What have I ever done to you?”

He grabbed my hand and cut into my skin, drawing my blood and letting it drop into the mix.

“You haven’t done anything, Hazel,”

“Then why are you doing this? Is it him- is it Darian you hate?”

Zade looked at me like the accusations I made were childish but there had to be something to it. Nobody did evil things for the heck of it.

“No,” he answered simply.

“Then why the fuck are you doing this?!”

Zade slowly stood and pushed the chair back. A yelp pierced the air when he grabbed my ankles and shifted me on the couch so my head fell against the armrest. He leaned over me and put his hand on my shoulder, gently pressing me down onto the couch.

“Because I don’t make the rules,” he said coldly and grabbed my face in a rough grip so my jaw widened. Zade poured the mixture down my throat and covered my mouth with his hand so I couldn’t spit it out.

The taste was repulsive and the herbs tickled my throat but other than that I didn’t feel any different.

He took the rest of the mixture and gulped it down. It seemed to affect him more, his eyes squeezed shut and his face pulled back in an agonizing scream- he stumbled to the side and put his hand through the brick wall while the screams peeled from his lips.

I eyed the door cautiously, there was just one way in and out and it was across the room. Zade fell against the wall and a drop of blood fell from the side of his mouth; he was in pain, hunched over and choking on the herbs he drank so I took my chance and forced my legs up. The door was right there- I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand on the way and when I fell against the door and twisted the handle I saw the crimson stains it left on my knuckles. The light broke through the crack of the door as it opened and I felt a pressure against the back of my eyes from the tears that surged up. This was it, I was almost out, almost free.

The wind blew up against my back and the door slammed shut in front of my face with his hand pressed above my head.

I closed my eyes and heaved a breath when I felt him brushing up behind me. So close…

Zade drew a deep breath, inhaling my scent and his hand rested on my hip.

“I know you’re curious,” he whispered behind me, “you felt it at the club, we have a connection.”

It’s true, I did feel that there was something curious about him that called for me. Something dark and unhinged and safe at the same time, it was a typhoon of emotion cascading within me and then the truth settled in, weaving a web to make a clear picture.

“You lied like he lied. You don’t want me, you want to serve whatever orders you’ve been given, it’s never been about me, I’ve never been the option, just the object of your torment,” I turned around and watched his face fall into something pitiful.

“Maybe to him,” he defended.

“To both of you and I’m sick of it! I won’t fall for your words just so you can use me to torture him further,” I narrowed my eyes and stepped toward him with my chin sticking out. But something dark flashed in his eyes and he cocked his head.

“You can’t control every thought, angel. You’re the one that told me that your sister is alive, those thoughts you tried so hard to shut out into the back of your mind were louder than the ones you wanted me to see,” he reached out his hand around my throat and pressed me back against the wall.

The wind blew around us, moving the flames and lifting the papers so they flew across the room.

If he didn’t make the rules then it had to be the Elder that was in charge of everything but why was a demon doing his bidding?

There were so many unanswered questions but I needed to get Gabe and get the hell out of here.

A smirk pulled across his face and I hated it, it was too sadistic and victorious, he’d won something.

“He sees you now, anything you want to say?” Zade looked me deep in the eyes.

“Go to hell,”

He laughed and dragged his tongue over his teeth.

“Trust me, after Darian sees what I’m about to do to you, his precious little puppet, he will beg for a ticket to hell; hellfire would hurt less,”

He tightened his grip on my throat and pulled me in close as he seethed against my lips,

“I saw the memory of your first time together in his mind, but not the real memory- no, his had been altered by himself. It had candles and roses, it was soft and loving you were smiling, but I see the real memory in your mind. How about we remind him of what really happened on the night he stole the last piece of your innocence?”

Darian saw everything and Zade wanted him to hurt.

A knock behind me made his eyes flicker over my face before a frustrated groan rumbled from him but there was also a glimmer of darkness in his eyes- anger over being interrupted- he wasn’t expecting anyone to come.

He tightened his fingers around my throat, dragged me around and threw me down on the floor, my head bounced against the cobblestones and I grabbed it in my hands when stars ignited my vision.

“Shit,” I cussed and cradled my head.

“What-” He barked as he swung the door open but the words quickly died.

I looked up to see who it was that I owed a thank you note to but my vision was blurry and all I saw was how Zade disappeared into a black fog and through the fog, cast a large shadow on the floor, stepped Darian in all his wounded warrior glory. Blood ran from the cut on his forehead and his arms and hands were covered in blisters and burn marks. His shirt was torn and I saw cut marks across his chest with dried blood going down his abs.

He limped over to the pentagram and kneeled beside me.

“Are you ever not in trouble?” He asked and cupped my head. His eyes lingered on mine in the longest, softest gaze and I wondered if it was really him who

was here, maybe I hit my head so hard that I was hallucinating.

“Since meeting you, no,” I answered honestly.

He scanned my wounds and ran his fingers through my hair and then his fingers touched my skin and I knew it was him.
