Chapter 140

Darian held my gaze and his ‘I am’ was lost on me. How on earth was he helping the situation? He wasn’t doing anything to get us out or make his former queen shut the hell up. She was just allowed to say whatever she wanted and we just had to stand her and listen to her mid-numbing voice that made me want to claw my ears off.

“How is that?” I scoffed.

It was followed by a silence, a pause, a nothingness that was louder than anything that had been said and then we heard a loud thud. Being what we were, werewolves and Lycans in one room, we all smelled the blood when its aroma rose in small clouds and seeped up our noses. Everyone’s heads whipped to behind the Dark Guards and one of them lay with his eyes open, staring at the chilling while the blood gushed from his slit throat.

As the guys turned, Gabe reached out his lengthy claws and dug them into the one Guard’s neck, he twisted them like you would a knife and pulled to the side, slicing his neck open inch by inch until the Guard was choking on his own blood and fell to his knees in front of Gabe.

“From up here it looks like you’re about to suck my dick,” he laughed and raised three bloodied fingers, he bent one and counted down- when three seconds passed the Guard fell with his hand wrapped around his throat and his lifeless body slumped next to his fellow warrior.

“I’ve always wondered what this is,” Gabe reached his hand around his throat, reenacting what the Guard had just done, “what do they think will happen- that they can keep the blood in?” His face twisted in a grimace and a heavy sigh relaxed his shoulders- he sliced his hand through the air, cutting the throat of another Guard.

“Why is no one doing anything?!” Mr. Light screeched like a sore loser who didn’t want to mess up his gelled-back hair. God forbid he gets his hands dirty and be of actual use.

Everyone turned, and there was one Guard left- he pulled the knife from its holster and his eyes started glowing as he called on his wolf.

The poor fool took one step, and the blade was raised in the air, Gabe’s face reflected in the polished metal but before he could lower it he was forced to a stop, the sound of gurgling hit me first, and then the metallic smell. Gabriel pulled his hand out from the Guard’s chest cavity and wiped it on his uniform before he collapsed onto the floor, his head landed on another Guard’s back and his eyes closed.

A sense of pride swelled my chest and I looked at Gabe with awe for what he’d done, that feeling terrified the shit out of me but it was like a calm sea, a comfort from just watching and disappearing in the moment without anything else clouding your mind.

I heard a squeal, a small one that pierced my ears enough for me to turn my head to see what it was and that’s when I saw Keira’s faltering face, her little chin held up while she watched the bodies lay at Gabe’s feet.

“Cover her eyes!” I spat but the woman standing with her blinked and remained in a silent position as though she hadn’t heard me. I looked down at Kiera’s shoulders and saw the woman’s hands holding her aimed at the blood and gore behind her mother.

Kiera was calm, besides the quivering bottom lip, but other than that it was like she was trying to be strong and hold her stance but her knuckles were turning white from squeezing the bunny’s hand.

“Who is she?” Darian asked and I looked at where he was directing the question.

The Elder wore a proud smile despite his men being dead not two meters away from him.

“That is Marge, her job is to train the girl to not be bothered by any event. She shouldn’t react nor fear the situations she’s subjected to, a cold distant mind is the only one we accept in our Dark Guards. Marge has trained some of the best,”

Gabe’s large form cast a shadow on the floor when he moved towards Marge, quiet and supple without anyone noticing. I think they were all so afraid of Darian’s next move that they didn’t dare take their eyes off him, him just standing there was enough of a distraction.

“Marge doesn’t have to force her head still or prey her eyes open anymore, she’s learning quickly. Must’ve gotten that from you, my love,” Mr. Light said and grabbed Ophelia’s waist, a nauseating giggle peeled from her lips and I held my calm until I saw Gabe stop behind Marge.

“Hey, sweetheart? Kiera,” she turned her head slowly and looked at me, I pushed down the feeling of dread from seeing her eyes bleed with sadness and I smiled, “Can you do me a favor?” She nodded her little head and her throat bobbed.

“Look at me and nowhere else, keep your eyes on mine no matter what, okay?” She didn’t respond or give me any indication that she’d listen but I locked my eyes on hers and squatted down.

“Gabriel! What on earth- NO!” The Elder growled, his voice shook the walls and Kiera stiffened when she heard it.

I reached out my arms when Marge’s hands fell from her shoulders and her body was dragged back away from Kiera.

“Look at me,” she was about to turn her head, I didn’t want her to see any more blood, especially from someone she knew.

“Come here, sweetheart!” I waited and hoped that she’d come. I begged silently and prayed, not that it’d done me any good in the past but now, for her, please- please move your feet.
