For the past few days, I’ve been waiting outside the house where Lana was being kept. Her mother hardly left her side, only stepping away when she really needed to use the bathroom.
It felt like torture and I was having a fucking hard time.
It was as if she instinctively sensed my presence, knowing I was out here, just biding my time for a chance to slip in and reach my mate.
I hadn’t left my post, not even for a moment, not even to grab a bite to eat. My determination was unwavering as I remained by Lana’s side, fiercely committed to guarding her.
She often gazed out the window, her eyes scanning the surroundings until they found me. The instant she spotted me, I would immediately see the tension in her shoulders ease and a content smile blossom on her face..
I enjoyed knowing that my presence brought her comfort. It felt as though I was finally doing my duty as her måte.
A wave of relief washes over me as Lana signals for me to come with a subtle gesture. I’d been waiting for this moment a long time. Without hesitating, I dart across the yard as the cool evening breeze ruffles my hair. I climb up the tree and slip through the open window, the familiar scent of her immediately consuming me.
The second I’m inside, she throws herself into my arms and crashes her lips to mine. Fuck. My body instantly reacts to her kiss. I tilt my head and push my tongue into her mouth, tasting her sweetness with each swipe.
Fuck me.
I wish we had more time. I wanted to much more than just kiss her.
“She left to use the bathroom.” Lana gasps. “She wouldn’t be gone long. We don’t have much time.”
I lift her shirt upwards, exposing her breasts. I was fully aware that I was acting like a starved madman and it didn’t bother me one bit. Lana gasps when I pull her nipple into my mouth. I’ve been starving for her, each day more than the last. It was getting out of control.
She cries out and I don’t waste any time as I turn my attention to her other nipple. I didn’t want to give one more attention than the other.
She buries her hand in my hair and pulls me tighter against her. I use that opportunity to open my lips wider and take more of her breast into
my mouth.
I felt like kicking myself when I heard footsteps coming this way. Why couldn’t my stepmother take longer intervals in the bathroom? Why did she move so quickly?
“I hate this.” I groan as I adjust Lana’s clothes before jumping out the window.
I feel my phone vibrating the second I hit the ground.
Fuck.
It was my mother. To my surprise, she hasn’t been calling as much, especially since I’ve been away for a few days with Lana.
“Mother,” I answer, making an effort to keep my voice low.
“Where have you been?” she demands. “Why aren’t you coming home?”

they discovered I had found Lana, they would only try to pull us apart again. By not telling them, I could be by my mate’s side without any interference.
“I’ve been busy at the pack house,” Hie. “Trying to locate Lana.”
There’s a lengthy pause before she replies, “I spoke to your father about that. It seems foolish for him to try to separate you two.”
1 frown, taken aback by her words.
“What do you mean?” I ask cautiously.
“Well,” she sighs, “I may have been too strict about the whole situation. I understand that Lana is your mate, and I know you can’t help how you feel about her.”
I pause, my body in shock. I couldn’t believe it was my mother speaking. Since when did she ever show such understanding?
“What are you trying to say?” I ask her.
She pauses for a few seconds before she says, “I may consider being more supportive of your decision of not to marry Jada. However, it won’t be that easy for me to accept Lana. I want to get to know her better. I need to know that she truly cares about you like I know Jada does.”
This felt like a dream. I still couldn’t believe I was speaking to my mother right now.
“Are you truly willing to give Lana a chance?” I ask her, unable to hide the joy in my voice. If she could, that would change so much and make my life so much easier.
“I am not making any promises.” She says. “All I know is that I love you and want to see you happy. She may not be the person I chose for you but she is the person that you chose. I need to trust your judgement.”
It was difficult for me to believe that this was truly happening.
“I don’t know what to say.” I admit.
“I want you to come home so we can discuss it a little more.” She says. “I am sure we can come to some sort of agreement and also find a way to convince your father to agree as well.”
I didn’t want to wait for her to change her mind on this matter. If she was ready to at least try and accept Lana, then I needed to meet with her
right away.
However, I couldn’t just leave without telling Lana anything either.
“Okay.” I tell my mother. “I will be home soon to discuss this more with you.”
“Happy to hear that, son.” She says before she ends the call.
I knew she didn’t make a promise to accept Lana but this was still a step in the right direction.
I waited a few hours until my stepmother left Lana alone again. I quickly climbed into her room, finding her waiting for me with a bright smile that lit up my entire world.
She reaches for me but I put some distance between us. If she touches me again, I wouldn’t want to leave her side even to meet with my mother.
“I have to go home, but it won’t be for long,” I inform her. “There’s something important I need to discuss with my mother, but the moment I’m done, I’ll be right back.”

I didn’t want to share the details of our conversation until I had sorted things out with her first. I can see the happiness dim a little in her eyes but at the same time, I could tell that she understood I had to leave.
She nods and says, “I loved having you close, even if it wasn’t in the same room. But I’ve noticed that you haven’t been sleeping much at all. You should use this time to get some rest. You don’t have to rush to return.”
I pull her towards me, “I don’t need rest. I just need you.”
Her face brightens at my confession and she leans forward to kiss my lips gently. “Then do quickly. I already miss you and you haven’t even left yet.”
She didn’t have to ask me twice. I quickly said my goodbyes and transformed into my wolf, sprinting through the forest. The sooner I got home and cleared things up with my mother, the faster I could return to Lana.
