Chapter 168
The young man lifted his finger to his lips and didn’t make a sound. Did I just say, young man’? How old was I getting in this place? I’m not even nineteen and I’m calling someone else a young man, the shiver that shook my bones was valid.
“Could you focus,” Trixy snarled.
“I called him a young man!”
“You mean the human boy who is somehow standing on Lycan ground?” Trixy was right.
She’s right, who was he and what the hell was he doing here?
He opened the door and stepped through it, was 1 expected to follow him? This felt like a dangerous form of the game follow the ferret, something all pups played in school- one person did something and then everyone else had to do the same thing. Or as I call it, the initiation into brainwashing young pups to become submissive adults, it’s a working title, but it was always a guy who was the ferret and it’s not because we said so but because the teachers also picked them.
Get back on track, Hazel. There is a human guy in the palace, he’s walking our corridors and nobody has noticed. I should have alerted someone, hell I should’ve alerted Darian so why didn’t I?
Stupid girl, I tell myself as I stepped through the door and followed the guy down a dark corridor leading to a narrow hallway.
The rags on his back showed me the way and even if I’d lost him I would have the pungent smell to follow.
I kept a distance, far enough away to keep an eye on him but the way he moved through the doors and around the corner of the room and the hallways, knowing when to duck and hide and when to hurry- it was immaculate.
Not one step out of place. He’d done this before. He knew the palace.
After many more turns, we ended up at the door that Gabe broke me out through on our first adventure together.
The guy reached out and I watched his dirt-covered hand turn the knob and kept a careful eye on the hand he held under the bean-sack-looking coat on his back.
He hurried out and I walked after him. The second that the door closed I reached out and grabbed his throat.
I pressed him back against the stonewall and growled.
“Who the hell are you?”

No man was stupid enough to walk onto our lands, not alone at least, and not even if there were a hundred of them would they ever dare come to the King’s palace.
The guy was either extremely dumb or he was planning something- why else would he let me find him?
“I’m Angus,” he choked.
“What is a vermin like you doing on this side of the border?”
A flash of offense simmered in his eyes but it was gone with his next attempted breath.
I tightened my grip, if he thought he made a wise choice in coming to me he was in for a horrific awakening.
Humans truly had no survival skills.
The little creature’s life was in my hands and suddenly I was the one wielding the power over something so small- so weak and pathetic.
“I…I need…” his face was turning blue, it’s funny how many stages they go through before death eventually greet them.

“…air…”
Trixy was on the front with me and I savored the fear that grew on his oxygen-deprived face.
His eyes flashed with emotion, endless types of emotion. How could a person show that much in their eyes? Or maybe it was just werewolves who always masked everything, who calculated every move that they made and trained from when we were three to predict their opponent’s next move.
There must’ve been at least eight emotions swimming on the surface of his eyes; sadness, desperation, detest, and a world of others, some I might not even have experienced myself.
I found myself easing the pressure and allowing a breath to run its course through his soft squishy throat.
It was much easier to choke the life of a human, they were nothing but flesh and bone. So fragile.
“Thank you,” he said after heaving a breath.
I still had him pressed against the wall and saw a line of blood trickling down the stone behind him from where his head hit.
“One wrong move and you’re dead. Trust me, it would be my pleasure,”
“I know,” he said with a venomous tone, “but if I die, you’ll never know why I’m here,”
I could live with that.
“You have six seconds, use them well,”
“I’ve been watching you, ever since he brought you here I’ve been watching how he treats you and I knew that if I waited long enough you would hear me
out,”

“What makes you think that I won’t still call on him and watch as he drags you into the woods and hand delivers your corpse to your family?”
His eyes hardened viscously- there was an emotion I knew.

“Because you haven’t yet,”
Darian should’ve been the first one I called on. I should’ve let him know the second I saw the vermin in the hallway but I hadn’t and here we stood.
If anybody saw us now, it was my head along with his.
“Don’t think that I won’t,” I growled, “thirty seconds left.”
“There’s a conspiracy going happening further in on human territory,”
“The territory that the King was kind enough to grant you,”
“The one he forced us up on because after pushing back the border!” he seethed.
An angry little thing. He had courage, I had to give him that.
“You’re time’s almost up.”
“It already is but you haven’t killed me. You either want to help me or save him, I can’t tell which one it is,”
“Save him?” I asked and my hold loosened even more.
He fell forward after I dropped my hand. It wouldn’t matter if he tried to run or fight, I was stronger and faster and he’d be dead before he could blink.
“The conspiracy is to kill the King, the preparations are almost complete,”

Chapter 168
It wasn’t nice of me but I couldn’t help the laugh that peeled quietly from my lips when he spoke with that cherished human desire to be heard it was nauseating. He was so sure of his own words- so stupid.
“If you think that you humans stand a chance-”
“It’s not just humans, we have werewolves on our side,”
