Chapter 186
They were coming for me? That’s what Darian said, right- that they were coming for me?
Only it made no sense. There was nothing that could begin to compare me with him, not strength, blood, or family ties. Darian came from a long lux of ruling Lycans, and Valeria had been destined to be his since before he was even conceived. Everything was planned by the Gods before we ever entered the game. How did I fit into this?
I looked around at their pinched lips and lowered heads.
They were cautious of the words that would leave their mouths which told me they were keeping things from me.
I looked at Nora, she bit down and her jaw clenched as she averted her eyes. I couldn’t believe this, after everything they’re still keeping things.
“You should tell her,”
My head whipped back to Nora who was staring at Darian. She raised her chin and defiance burned in her glimmering eyes. That was a first. Now that she was about to leave I guess she could speak her mind again but I couldn’t let the thoughts of her leaving the palace cloud my mind right now.
“I agree,” I said sharply and looked up at a shadowing anger that lined his features.
Darian turned to face me, he cocked his head and moved my hair back over my shoulder, and exposed my neck.
The touch of his fingers running over the mark he made that night at the Hunt sent a new sensational tingle through my body. One of safety and desire instead of the dread that I associated it with for so long.
“This mark is more than my claim over you,” he said calmly. “When I marked you, I inherently transferred much of my power to you. Half to be exact. A Lycan is never as strong as when he has found a mate, and when the mark has been made, it can never be undone.”
I knew that. He could put his mark over a werewolves, replacing the venom with his own but no werewolf or Lycan could ever replace another Lycan’s mark.
It was forever.
Gabe shifted where he stood and crossed his arms.
“It’s time she knows,” he sighed.
Darian eyed the mark and found my eyes.
A glimmer of hope and fear mixed in the foggy darkness of his eyes.
“You own half of everything that I am, like a power source. The protector of my strength. That pain you felt when I marked you the first time was replacing Emanuel’s claim, yes, but it was also your body’s reaction to the transfer of power,”
“Go on,” I said when I saw him holding back.
me
“Hazel, the power you hold is the reason for my strength but it only works if the bond is true and our souls connected,” he smiled and stepped back to make room between us.
Darian called on his wolf, it happened before I could blink and his eyes glowed in a golden hue that intensified to an illuminating white before my eyes That never happened before and everyone was suddenly more alert than ever.
Trixy stepped up in awe and watched through my eyes as a power radiated from him and filled every hall in the palace. He never removed his eyes Prod mine and I watched as his claws extracted and his jaws widened when his sharp fangs pushed out from his gums.
One by one we started to hear howling from outside. It was like a symphony of every member of the Lycan pack reacting to their King calling on them
Soon the howls pushed through the closed windows and thick stone walls. They filled every room and the paintings vibrated against the walls the lamps moved on the tables from the energy of the sound. I could hear the distinct differences in their howls but they were all meshed together, louder than I had ever heard and eventually the howling rang in my ears so loud that it started to hurt.

His eyes shifted back, the power was pulled in under his skin and the radiating authority that surged around him subsided.
“When you accepted me, you accepted the bond. Being a Lycan does not come without certain rules, we only reach our full strength when our mate truly and honestly lets us in.” He grabbed my hand and raised it to his lips.
“You let me in,”
Darian is even stronger than he was before because I accepted him. That’s what I felt, that is why the bond was different and why his touch felt odd- because it wasn’t a reminder of pain and sadness anymore. He somehow snaked his way into my heart and I wanted to keep him there.
“That’s all cutesy and nauseating, but let’s tell the whole story,” Gabe said darkly with a glimmer of rage.
Darian flicked his tongue and rubbed circles with his thumb on the back of my hand.
Something told me that his reservations related to why the humans and the Council were coming after me and not him.
Gabe sighed and rose to his feet.
“Fine, if you won’t tell her then I will. You see-”
“Sit your ass down,” Darian growled and glared at him in a warning.
Gabe lifted his hands and sat on the edge but I could tell he was ready to spring to his feet again if necessary.
“They don’t stand a chance against us,” Darian told me. “Against Gabe and I. Which they know, and they aren’t dumb enough to try. The best way to kill a Lycan is to take away his source of power. You,”
