Chapter 197
One hour passed and I was having an inner dialogue about how fucked up this situation was. I couldn’t be a mother to one child let alone three. Three. Triplets. Not just any triplets but triplet Lycan’s. And the doctor’s snide remark about sexual intercourse…pfft. I knew how to get pregnant I just never saw myself as a mother. If that makes sense.
A groggy cloud filled my mind and I sunk into the bed.
It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. Not yet, it was too soon.
Darian and I were getting to a good place and we were supposed to be in that place for a while; just the two of us.
“Did you really have no idea?” Nora asked me from where she sat on the chair.
I shrugged and thought back.
My body had been strange, certain foods that I used to love suddenly tasted like something from a gutter and the irritability and constant horniness- of course, I knew that something was up but not this- or maybe I just refused to acknowledge it.
Nora and Lauren shared a look when I didn’t answer them and then I started hearing footsteps outside. Not from the hall, but outside the palace. It sounded like thousands of men stomping rhythmically in the same place.
It’s started.
Lauren sent the doctor off to the north wing, the healers were already there setting everything up to care for the injured Guards. When I closed my eyes I couldn’t stop imagining the bloodshed and causalities that would come of this and then the howls echoed loud against the windows and the first grunt of a fatal blow was heard.
I took a deep breath and exhaled through my mouth. Anxiety rose from my toes and caused distress in the little lives I carried inside of me.
I drew gentle circles over my stomach and winced every time I heard a slice or a cry.
“Stop listening,” Nora whispered and grabbed my hand.
But the noise was loud, even if I stopped listening with my wolf I could still hear them.
Mathilda and Kiera were safe but Gabe and Darian were outside fighting for the lives of their people and me.
They were strong but I had no idea who they fought other than the Councilmen led by the Elder and the humans that they had gathered.
Nora got up and walked over to the window with an incredulous look that pushed her brows down.
“What is it?” I asked and looked at her from the bed.
Her throat bobbed and her chest expanded from a deep breath.
When she turned around it looked like she’d seen a ghost fighting the war.
“Tell me,” I lifted my head.
“They have rogues,” she explained.
“Darian has rogues helping him?”
She shook her head.
“The humans have rogues on their side,”
That meant they had more numbers than we initially thought.

Chapter 197
“How do you know?” I asked.
Her cheeks flushed and whatever the answer was it pained her to say it.
“Because it’s my pack,”
The one that Darian granted permission to stay in the Lycan pack? Why in the world would they fight with humans against their King?
The bed felt like a pile of nails and ants crawled under my legs. I couldn’t sit here and do nothing while Darian was out there.
He would sooner give them Valeria before he let them get into the hospital or the palace and then they would go after the people. Everyone was in danger, not just us.
I pushed off from the bed and ignored the pounding pain in my stomach.
“Stop.” Lauren came to my bedside and pushed my shoulders down.
“You’re not going anywhere, you need to rest,” I could tell how uncomfortable she was with the soft voice she was using to calm me but I didn’t need rest, 1
needed Darian to be alive.
“I have to help!”
“You are, by not getting in the way,” she said and sighed. “If you go out there he won’t be able to focus on anything else and he needs to be King right now, not your mate,”
I coiled my fingers and my head sunk into the pillow. This was useless, I was no help to protecting anyone and Lauren kept looking out the window, I knew she wanted to be down there, fighting, not babysitting me..
“Do you see Zade?” I asked Nora.
She searched the ground below us and shook her head.
“No he’s not there and the Elder is standing back, he’s letting everyone else fight for him,” she said in a gasp.
I looked up at the ceiling when the pieces slowly merged together.
“It’s not their time,” I said tiredly.
“For what?”
“To play,” I responded. Everything was a game, and that was what the Council did best, they planned and executed games knowing which pawn suited which position.
“It’ll be over soon, I’ve seen the King survive much worse,” Lauren comforted. She was right, everyone had heard the stories, Darian was the last person you saw, and with him came the promise of death. Maybe I didn’t need to be worried. The humans would be easy, they would fall like rocks on the surface of a lake. Maybe they were all in over their heads and he would be back by my side soon enough.
“What the fuck?” The war stretched around the massive land behind the palace and from the corner of the hospital wing where we were Nora had a good view over part of it.
I whipped my head to the side and my eyes almost bulged out of their sockets.
She turned back and looked at Lauren who stood by her side in the blink of an eye.
“What kind of a twisted magic is that?” She said in an exhale and my eyes started glowing.
“Tell me!” 1 growled and the girls turned.
“The humans, they’re getting back up… they can’t be killed,” Nora exclaimed.
