Chapter 3 – Guardian Angel
–LIA’S POV–

I peeked at The Hounds from behind my saviour, my gaze instantly meeting Zane’s. My heart gave a thump in my chest.
“Is anyone going to tell me what’s happening here?” Zane asked, his face hard.
“Lia has a new friend,” said Ajax. “Never seen him before.”
“He’s new here,” Warner said. “He wouldn’t dare meddle in what doesn’t concern him if he wasn’t.”
My green eyed saviour chuckled. “You wanna talk about daring?” he asked, stepping forward. “Try picking on someone. your own size and then use these big words.”
Warner stepped closer too, looking ready for a fight, but to my surprise, Zane stepped in, pushing him back.
“Who are you?” he asked.
“My name’s Blake Walker,” my saviour announced, and I could bet girls took a mental note of it. In fact, I even spotted a few immediately going onto their phones, probably to search him up on socials. I held back an eye roll. “And there’s nothing I hate more than men who terrorise women and feel good about themselves.”

Sheila smiled sarcastically at his comment, while The Hounds. only looked further pissed.
When Warner took another step closer to Blake, my eyes widened. I knew how ruthless Warner was. While Blake looked
strong, I wasn’t sure if he knew what he was up against. I most definitely did not want to see him get beaten up on his first day
here. Not for me at least.
“Guys, please,” I said, stepping forward and grabbing Blake’s sleeve. “It’s—it’s okay. Thank you for stepping in. There is no need for violence, we’re all just schoolmates. Nothing serious.”
Blake glanced down, where I held him, then looked at me.
Zane too did the same.
“They need to be put in their place,” Blake said softly. “Why are you scared?”
I stared up at him, my heart warming. He was a literal hero.
“I’m not scared,” I whispered. “I just don’t want you to fight for me. It’s unnecessary. Thank you.”
A tear rolled down my cheek, thanks to how much my throat still burned. I felt Zane’s eyes on me, but I didn’t dare to look at him.

“Okay,” Blake said, gently taking my hand. “Let’s go then for now.”
I nodded, ready to be stolen away by him. But before we could take a single step, Warner walked up to us. Blake immediately pushed me behind himself again, meeting his glare with one. of his own. I watched with wide eyes as they stared each other down.
“You think you can just leave?” he chuckled. “This is our school, newbie. We call the shots here.”
My throat itched, and I coughed, covering my mouth when I accidentally gained some attention. I felt Zane’s burning gaze on me again, and moved to hide behind Blake.
“You wanna go right now?” Blake asked, his body stiffening.
“Sure. Meet me outside,” Warner replied, glowering.
“Not right now, Warner,” Zane announced.
I frowned. That was new. Zane never stopped his friends from anything.
“Let them go.”
Warner clenched his jaw, but then stepped back, away from Blake. A single command from Zane and puppy. He didn’t even argue. It was odd.

taking my wrist once again. “Stay away from her in the future.” He led me away, towards the exit.
I could barely process anything before I was outside the cafeteria with Blake, being led somewhere.
“Wait,” I said when realisation struck, “where are you taking me?” I tried to pull my hand from his, but he only tightened his hold.
“Don’t worry, I’m not like them,” Blake stated.
I blinked a couple of times, walking silently, looking around as we gained a few looks from people. My eyes widened as we approached the girls‘ washroom.
“That’s the girls‘ washroom,” I pointed out.
“I know,” he replied, entering as though it was completely natural for him to go in.
I glanced around at the girls present inside, all of them watching us in shock and confusion. Blake stopped near the sink and turned the tap on, before wetting his hand and bringing it towards my face. Instinctively, I flinched away.
He frowned, pausing.

“Lia—that’s your name, right?” he asked.
“Yeah,” I said softly.

“Relax. I’m not gonna hurt you,” he said gently, his eyes full of
concern.
“I—I know. It’s just a habit.”
Somehow, my response served to deepen his frown.
“Why?” he asked. “Whatever happened today, is it an everyday. occurrence?” He proceeded to gently wipe the sauce off my mouth with his thumb, making my heart race.
I stared into his gorgeous green eyes, taking note of the flecks of gold in them. They were so beautiful.
“Lia?” he pushed when I didn’t reply for a moment.
“I mean, yeah,” I replied, as he wiped my cheeks. “I’d be lying if I said no. But it isn’t always so severe. Today just got a little escalated.”
“He pushed you, Lia, that wasn’t just escalation. That was crossing a line.”
I swallowed, my mouth still burning.
“Why don’t we go to the principal’s after getting you a cold.

I chuckled. “You think I haven’t done that before?”
Blake frowned. “It didn’t work? Why?”

I shrugged. “They’re really rich, all of them. And their families. have friendly connections to the owner of the school. At least that’s what I’ve heard. No one says anything to them around.
here.”
“Why do they bully you? Is there a reason?” Blake asked. “Or is it only because you’re smart and beautiful?”
My cheeks tinged red. “I… I’m not beautiful, I’m just a dork. A nerd. That’s why they bully me.”
“Well,” he said, closing the tap now. “That stops today. I won’t let them hurt you anymore, Lia.”
I smiled. “Why? Why do you want to get into the middle of something that has nothing to do with you? Why are you helping me?”
Blake stepped closer, the scent of his cologne washing over me.
“Because we’re friends now,” he declared. “And no one messes with my friends.”
The smile on my face widened, and I lowered my gaze, taking a

deep breath. “You’re inviting trouble, Blake. They’re very mean.”
Blake curled a finger under my chin, tipping my face up, forcing me to meet his gaze. “I’m not afraid of them. And they cannot hurt me, I promise. Don’t worry about me, alright? I’ve got your back now.”
A tear escaped my eye, and I closed my eyes, unable to maintain eye contact with him. My stomach was a huge den of butterflies, and my heart felt like it had turned into mush. No one had ever cared for me like this before. And this absolutely breath–taking dude was acting like I mattered.
He wiped away my tear, clicking his tongue. “Enough now,” he said, taking my hand again. “Let’s go get you something to drink.”
I mentally thanked God, before nodding.
He’d sent me a guardian angel.
