–LIA’S POV–

I quickly hurried down the stairs and opened the door, to find Blake standing outside with a huge bouquet of red roses in hist arms. My eyes widened in surprise.
“Hi,” I suppressed a chuckle, grinning at him.
Blake smiled at me. “Happy birthday, Lia. You look beautiful.” He handed me the bouquet, and I quickly smelled it, my smile. growing wider. “Come here, birthday girl.” He opened his arms and leaned in for a hug. But then he stopped once he got close enough. His face fell, and his eyebrows knitted together. “You… you smell like men’s perfume.”
My eyes widened, and I blinked up at him. “Yeah…” I chuckled awkwardly, “I guess I do.”
Blake leaned away slightly. “How?”
“I love men’s perfume,” I said cheerfully. “It smells so much better and lasts so much longer. I just prefer it over women’s perfume. Don’t you?”
Blake’s frown deepened slightly. But he didn’t question me further. “No, I like how women smell. Feminine and floral.”
Technically, I didn’t lie.

“Fair enough. I guess that’s the attraction of the opposite sex.” I playfully punched his arm.
Blake smiled, studying me. “You’re awfully cheerful.”
I laughed. “I am. It’s my birthday. And you got me a rose bouquet. I’m so happy.”
Oh God, I was a disaster. And extremely tired. After everything that had happened, firstly the wolf last night, and then The Hound just a few minutes ago, I just wanted to curl up in bed.
“You look beautiful when you’re happy,” Blake complimented. “Your smile is really pretty.”
“Thank you,” I grinned.
“Come here.” He now pulled me into a hug, and the second. he was close enough, the scent of his cologne washed over me, immediately doing something to my body. His neck lightly touched the side of my cheek, and the same sparks that I’d felt when Zane’s skin made contact with mine, erupted throughout my body. “Mine,” he muttered in a low tone. First Zane, now
him?!
I sucked in a breath, my eyes widening. Blake pulled away a moment later, his eyes seeming darker than normal. What was wrong with people? Was he high too?

Maybe I was high.
“Did you just say–”

“You wanna leave now?” Blake asked, offering me his hand.
I stared at him, confused.
“Sure,” I then replied, nodding, placing my hand in his.
The tingles erupted once more, and I gasped and pulled my hand away.
“Sorry, it’s the weather,” Blake said, smiling apologetically.
I frowned, nodding. Yeah, that was probably it. Static electricity. That was the simplest explanation.
And here I’d started imagining things.
“That’s okay,” I said. “Give me a minute. Let me put these in a vase.”
After I did that, Blake led me to his car and like a gentleman, opened the door for me. I thanked him and sat inside, but he didn’t stop at that. Blake bent down and leaned in towards me, making me suck in a breath and jam my back against the seat.
“Relax Lia,” he chuckled, “just putting on your seatbelt for you.”

He grabbed the belt and then leaned in further to clasp it, our faces stopping mere inches away. Our gazes locked for a second and his breath fanned my lips, causing my heart to pound in my chest. A small smile took over his lips, and then he leaned away from me, closing the door and walking around the car to take his
seat.
I took in a deep breath, offering him a small smile when he got
- in.
Blake drove us to a lovely high–end restaurant, where he had a private table booked for us. I was surprised at how rich he was, but also that he was willing to spend that much on a girl he’d known for two days. He was perfect a gentleman the whole time, opening every door for me, pulling my chair out, helping me with my purse and everything else.
We spent over three hours together, talking and laughing, as he spoilt me in a way no one had ever done before. I had so much fun that I did not feel sleepy for even a second. Blake was the perfect man: Gorgeous, caring and kind. My heart was mush in my chest.
“Lia,” he said, gently taking my hand in his as we sat across from each other. Those same tingles crept up my hand, making me curl my toes under the table. “This is the best time I’ve had with anyone in a while. You’re so fun to be around.”

Heat rose to my cheeks. “Really?”

“Without a doubt,” he replied, then brought my hand to his lips. and planted a soft kiss to it. Butterflies broke out in my stomach, my cheeks hurting from smiling too much. “Don’t get me wrong,” he began, gently rubbing his thumb over my knuckles, “and I swear I don’t say this to every girl out there, I feel an
odd connection with you. Something I’ve never felt with anyone before. It’s like there’s–”
“Electricity,” I whispered, and he smiled.
“Yes, exactly. Don’t laugh, but, I feel like the universe is telling us to be together.”
I couldn’t help it. I laughed.
Blake’s grin widened further. “Hey,” he playfully scolded, making me laugh harder.
“I’m sorry, that was so cheesy!”
“And electricity wasn’t?” He narrowed his eyes. “I didn’t laugh when you said that.”
“Alright, I’m sorry.”
“Don’t ever apologise for blessing my ears with that sound,” he said, staring at me intently. “You’re… perfect, Lia.”

I absentmindedly tried to push my glasses up my nose with my free hand, then realised I wasn’t wearing them today.
“We… we should go home now,” I said. “It’s getting late, and I’m really sleepy.”
“It’s only eight,” he frowned.
“I know, I was up all night.”
“Why?”
“Crazy story, a wolf broke into my house.”
Now his face hardened, all gentleness and amusement vanishing in a second. “What?”
“I know how it sounds, but my broken bedroom door can advocate for it. I did not imagine it, I swear.”
“I believe you,” he stated, his expression unreadable. “Why didn’t you tell me this before? Did he hurt you?”
“No, it didn’t,” I replied. “I don’t know if it was a he or a she.”
“Right. Why didn’t you tell me, Lia? How did you get rid of it?” he asked, full of concern.
“I… didn’t. It just left.”

“Well, what did it do? Did it see you?”
I wondered how it’d sound if I told him.

“I think it wanted to eat me then decided I didn’t smell good enough.”
His face hardened further. “It smelled you?”
“Yeah.”
“Where?”
Now I frowned. “What do you mean?”
“I mean where did it smell you?”
“How does it matter?”
“Because it does,” he snapped, slamming his hand on the table.
I flinched, my eyes widening.
Blake sighed, putting a hand to his eyes. “I’m sorry,” he whispered. He reached forward to take my hand in his, but quickly pulled it away. “Lia, I’m sorry. I don’t know why I snapped at you. I’m just thinking what could’ve happened to you. Why didn’t you tell me? Please call me if something like that ever happens again. I’m here for you, Lia. Always.”

I released a slow breath, giving him a small smile. “I’m fine, Blake. Don’t worry. Nothing happened.”
“I’ll stay with you tonight, just to make sure you’re safe,” he declared.
“No, you can’t do that. My parents aren’t here. If they show up they’ll ground me forever.”
“I’ll explain the situation to them.”
“I’m not gonna tell them, Blake. It won’t happen again it was just an odd incident. You can’t stay over tonight.”
Zane’s words replayed in my head, and somehow, I knew he meant it. He would kill Blake if he showed up and he was there.
Although, wouldn’t that be safer for me?
No, I didn’t think Zane meant me any real harm. If anything happened, I’d call Blake then.
“Lia, please,” Blake begged, getting off his chair and
approaching mine. He knelt on the ground before me, taking my hands in his. “Let me stay with you. At least until your parents aren’t here.”
“Blake,” I sighed, “I promise you, I’ll call if something like that. happens again. Immediately.”

He opened his mouth to argue further, then stopped. “Alright. I’ll come immediately, okay? Do not hesitate for even a second.”
“I won’t,” I promised.
He smiled, then stood up. “Let’s go now. You should rest.”

We left the restaurant after Blake paid, and he drove me home. He also walked me to the door, and made me promise one more time that if anything went wrong, I would call him instantly. After I reassured him multiple times, he finally agreed to leave.
I closed the door and leaned against it, letting out a sigh. My
gaze
fell on the flowers he had brought me.
Today was beyond perfect. It was so much more than anything I could have imagined.
Blake was truly amazing.
I pushed off the door, a smile plastered on my face as I made my way to the kitchen. Absentmindedly humming a tune, I poured myself a glass of water, my heart warm.
“Someone’s looking happy.”
Zane’s voice made me gasp, and I dropped the glass of water onto the floor. I swiftly turned around to find him inside my

kitchen, leaning against the wall as though he owned the place.
“Zane,” I whispered, my eyes wide. “How—how did you get in?”
“Same way I did yesterday,” he replied, pushing off the wall and walking towards me.
I started to back away, ending up with the small of my back against the kitchen counter. Zane closed the space between us, placing his hands on either side of me. He leaned in, and I leaned away, my hands shivering.
“What did you guys do together?” he asked.
“That’s—that’s none of your business, Zane,” I replied. I didn’t even have my phone on me. It was in my purse which I’d left on the table outside.
“It absolutely is, Lia.”
“Why?” I asked, my heart hammering in my chest.
He narrowed his eyes. “Why not?”
I opened my mouth to reply, but stopped. That was… that was such a stupid question.
“You….. we’re not even friends! You hate me. Why do you care?”
Zane raised a brow. “Who said I hate you? I have never hated

you at all, Lia.”

“Because you’re indifferent to my existence,” I replied. “Or…. were. I don’t understand what you want from me now. You look high, Zane. Your eyes look weird. Please leave me alone. Please get out of my house.”
“Hm,” he said softly, leaning in closer. “And if I don’t?”
I placed my hands on his chest to push him away. But it wasn’t much use. I couldn’t move the guy even an inch.
“Zane, please,” I said, swallowing hard. “You’re scaring me.”
Zane clicked his tongue twice. “I’m not gonna hurt you, Love.”
“Please, Zane. Get away from me–
My sentence was interrupted by a loud crash, the sound of my front door being broken down. Zane moved instantly, standing in front of me protectively, turning away.
“Lia!” Blake said, entering the kitchen. His gaze fixed on Zane, and his face turned hard. “What the hell are you doing here?”
Zane relaxed when he saw him. “Oh it’s just you.”
“Get away from her!” Blake yelled, and charged towards us.
