Chapter 14 – Kidnapped
–LIA’S POV–

Before I could take another step, a hand clasped over my mouth, and an arm wrapped around my waist. I tried to scream, but he’d anticipated it already and shut me up. He lifted me off the ground like I weighed nothing, carried me back to his car and opened the door to the back seat. Zane placed me inside, and as soon as he removed his hand from my mouth, I started to
scream.
“Enough,” he warned, his voice so deep, it sounded animalistic. I flinched, my eyes widening in shock. Tears pricked my eyes. Zane glared at me for a short moment, then withdrew, closing the door shut. I found myself unable to move, sitting there and watching as he climbed into the driver’s seat and then locked the doors. He glanced at me through the rear–view mirror. “Wear your seat belt, sit back and relax.”
He began driving, and the reality of the situation sank in.
Zane Adams was kidnapping me.
This was a new low, even for The Hounds.
“Where… where are you taking me?” I asked, leaning forward. “Zane, please drop me back home.”
I didn’t even have my phone on me, because like an idiot, I’d left

it on my bed. I’d thought he’d simply wanted to talk to me. It didn’t expect he’d have come there to kidnap me.
“I will,” he replied, staring at me through the mirror. His blue eyes looked beautiful even in that situation.
“When?” I cried.
“Soon.”
“Zane, please–” I began, but he shot me a look, making me shut up. I swallowed, before mustering the guts to speak again. “What are you guys going to do to me? I’m sorry for punching Ajax. He wasn’t even hurt…”
Zane frowned, glancing at me once more. “You think that is what all this is about?”
“What else would it be?” I whispered, as a tear rolled down my cheek.
Zane’s eyes widened, and suddenly, he swerved the car to the side and stopped it. He turned around in his seat, now facing me properly.
“Hey,” he said, reaching his hand towards me.
I flinched back, jamming myself against the backrest.
He sighed and withdrew his hand. “You’re actually crying?” he

said softly.

“What do you expect me to do?” I asked. “You’re kidnapping me in the middle of the night. I don’t even have my phone. My parents don’t know where I am and you’re not telling me where you’re taking me. I’m… I’m scared, Zane.” I sniffed.
I sounded utterly and disgustingly pathetic. I wanted to puke at myself.
“Lia,” Zane said incredulously, “first of all, I am not kidnapping you. Secondly, why are you scared? I am not taking you to The Hounds. It’s just me, I promise.”
“And that’s supposed to make me feel better?” I asked, scowling at him. “How do you expect me to trust you?”
“What are you afraid of? What do you think I’ll do to you?”
“I don’t know, anything! You’ve been… you’ve been acting really odd lately. You were someone who’d never looked at me twice. and now all of a sudden you’re breaking into my home, you’re seeking me out at school and doing all sorts of… inappropriate things to me.”
Zane let out a laugh. “Inappropriate things? Like what?”
“Like trapping me against walls and kitchen counters and—and book shelves!”

My eyes widened, and I shook my head, making him burst out laughing.
“Goddess, Lia, you’re so cute.”
Goddess?
“You also think God is a woman?” I asked.
“Huh?”
“Even Blake said Goddess that day instead of God. Are you guys a part of some sort of cult I don’t know about?”
Now my eyes widened.
“Oh my God,” I whispered. “Is there a reason both of you are suddenly after me? Am I… am I a virgin sacrifice or something?”
Zane stared at me, his eyes narrowing slightly. “Yes. That’s exactly it. And now I have you, Lia Snow. Get ready to be sacrificed.” He turned away, starting the car again.
No, that was ridiculous.
“I know there’s no such thing,” I muttered, as he started driving.
“Hm.”

I fell silent for a moment. Could there actually be a cult? Would I make a good virgin sacrifice? I mean, I was probably the only girl left in school who was still a virgin. Maybe that was obvious. Was that going to get me killed?
“What are you thinking, Lia?” Zane asked, looking at me through the mirror.
“I’m thinking about what my life is turning into,” I replied.
“And? What did you conclude?”
“I liked it better when your friends were my biggest problem.”
Zane smiled. “What is it now?”
“You. For starters.”
“Me?” He chuckled. “I’m a problem?”
“Obviously.”
“And what about Blake Walker? He’s not?”
“Blake…” I said softly, thinking about him. He was great. He was handsome and caring. But frightening at times. And possessive. “Blake!” I said. “I promised him I wouldn’t see you again.”
“What?” Zane raised a brow.

“I don’t know why I just told you that. But yeah. I promised him. He’s my only friend, alright? Just… just drop me home, please?” I begged.
Zane didn’t respond, shifting his eyes to the road.
“Zane, come on. If I’m not a sacrifice, just drop me home. Whatever it is, it can wait. You can tell me at school.”
“Oh yeah?” Zane asked. “What about your promise to Blake? Won’t he kill you if he sees you with me?”
“No, Blake wouldn’t hurt me,” I replied.
Zane glanced at me again. “Are you sure, Lia?”
I frowned, staring back at him. “I… yes. Of course. He’s kind.”
“You looked terrified of him. At the library and at your place. It’s just what I’ve observed.”
“I’m not terrified of him. I just care about him a lot. He… he likes me, I think. And I don’t want to do anything to hurt his feelings,” I explained.
“Why?” Zane asked as he pulled over. He turned to me again. “Why can’t you hurt his feelings? Do you like him back?”
“Why does it matter to you?” I asked. “Why does anything about

me matter to you? Why now?”
“Because we just turned sixteen,” he stated.
“So?”
Zane sighed. “So, nothing. Let’s go.”

With that he opened the door and climbed out of the car, also opening mine.
“No, wait. Where are we?” I asked.
“Come on out and I’ll tell you.
I moved towards the door and stepped outside, my eyes widening.
“Are we–”
“Yes. We are at my house.”
