Chapter 36 – The Order
–ZANE’S POV–
Lucky Draw
I called the Hounds over as soon as I got home. They arrived immediately, and made themselves comfortable in my lounge.
“Is everything okay?” Aaron was the first one to speak.
“How can anything be okay when Ms. Snow is involved?” Ajax commented.
I shot him a glare, and he quickly looked away, raising his hands in surrender.
“Everything, is in fact, not okay,” I announced, now realising that Ajax’s words were absolutely spot on.
“What happened?” Sheila asked.
I glanced at her, trying my best to stay calm. I didn’t want an unnecessary fight with my Beta.
“After you threatened Lia that day, she did something.”
“What did she do?” Warner asked at once.
“We were right about The Order. I think they actually are in
town, and Lia’s the one who called them.”

“She what?” Warner asked incredulously.
“How could she do that?” Ajax muttered.
“Are you sure, Zane?” Aaron asked.
Sheila simply stared at me dumbfounded.
“Yes, I’m sure. It’s no coincidence that we get reports of their arrival in town, and then Lia mentions that she messaged a secret society who hunts werewolves last week. She even mentioned their name.”
“So she wants us dead? Wow. That’s… kinda brutal,” said Ajax.
“Is it?” I snapped. “After everything we put her through while she thought we’re human, she found out that we are supernatural creatures who can turn into wolves. On top of that, one of us is claiming to be in love with her, and one of his best. friends threatened her with murder if she dared to date anyone. else. Is it really so brutal of her, guys?”
Aaron cleared his throat. “In all honesty, Zane, yes. It sort of is.”
I rolled my eyes. “Okay, even so, what’s done is done. No one threatens her ever again. Is that clear?” I asked, using my Alpha
voice.
“Yes Alpha,” they said in unison.

“Not even if you see her kissing another man,” I added, even as the thought made me want to kill someone.
“Yes, Alpha,” they replied, softer this time.
“Good. Now that future problems have been averted, let’s think of a solution for our new friends,” I stated.
“We couldn’t find them, Zane. They’re good at covering their tracks. And they’re all human. There is no way to find them,” said Aaron.
“But they have to have a network, right? A way of doing things. A meeting place, a safehouse, something.”
“For all we know, they’re meeting at clubs or parties or playgrounds. They can sit in public and discuss their plans and no one would say anything, because they’re talking about mythical creatures. To humans, they could just pass off as dorks.” Sheila shrugged.
“Yes, but Zane is right. They still need an armoury of some kind. Killing werewolves isn’t easy. They need weapons, powerful ones,” Warner commented.
“So that’s what we look for this time,” I said. “Good thinking,
Warner.”
“Thanks, Alpha.” He nodded.

“What else?” Ajax asked. “Will you speak to your father now? I know he’s retired, but he’s a resourceful individual.”
“I do not want to disturb him unless it’s something serious. I won’t involve Dad until we find proof of their arrival.”
“Sounds good.” Aaron nodded. “What do you want us to do now? Do we start the search tonight?”
“Yes, we cannot afford any delays. Not with my mate in town. I want to finish them off before they even have a chance to contact her. I cannot let Lia get involved in any of this. She already has a lot on her plate with two mates.”
“Oh, right,” Sheila said, “there’s Blake too. What do we do about
him?”
“Nothing,” I replied. “Let him be. He’s the least of our problems. Even if I hate his guts, I know he will come in handy if trouble comes knocking. With him close by, I will be less worried about Lia’s safety at least.”
“You think he can protect her?” Warner scoffed.
“He put her in harm’s way,” Ajax added.
“That was his own stupid trick. He will protect her with his life if it comes down to it, I’m sure. After all, she is his mate too.” A weird taste spread in my mouth. I hated the fact. I hated that she wasn’t just mine.

But I would make her, later on.
For now, there were other things to worry about.

“I’ll prepare a team,” Aaron said, standing up from the sofa already. “Sheila and I will lead the search. You should stay
close to Lia, see if they approach her. Maybe your closeness will prevent them.”
“Yeah. Sounds good.”
“What about us?” Warner asked.
“The usual. You have our backs,” Sheila said.
And just like that, my Hounds were ready to hunt.
The Order did not know what was coming for them. If they thought they could come to my town and hurt my wolves, they were wrong. I would rip each of them open if I had to. No one was going to hurt my pack, or my mate. Not on my watch.
I excused myself and stepped aside, giving Lia a call. She picked up on the third ring.
“What do you want now, Zane?” she tried to sound bored and nonchalant, but I knew now that it was all just an act. She was a lot more affected by me than she let on. And I knew she did not feel the same for Blake. Maybe a part of her had always

harboured some kind of feelings for me. Human girls seemed to like me.
“Only you, my love, always and forever,” I replied, smiling. I was one smooth piece of shit.
“I am trying to study for tomorrow’s test. If you have called just because you’re bored, I am going to hang up.”
“Alright, I won’t disturb you then. You can study.”
She fell silent for a moment. “Okay, well, bye, then.”
“Good bye, Lia.” I grinned to myself as I hung up.
I was going to visit her in an hour.
