Chapter 42 – Come Back–2
–LIA’S POV–
&
Lucky Draw
I was in a forest. Dark, dense and silent. The only way I knew where I was, was because I could smell the plants around me. I could feel the damp and uneven ground, the blades of grass and fallen twigs, the tiny stones scattered around.
There was a rustle somewhere to the side, and I turned, my eyes
wide.
Only a void stared back at me.
“Is anybody here?” I whispered, not having the guts to yell or scream. I didn’t know what could hear me. What could hunt me
down if I was too loud.
Only silence answered.
I took a deep breath, as hot tears pricked my vision.
“Is anyone here?” I cried.
I couldn’t remember anything. How did I get here? Why was I alone in a forest?
The first tear fell from my eye. I wiped it away, sniffing.
“Please, someone,” I whispered. The darkness felt alive like the

sea, and I was drowning in it.
Why couldn’t I see the sky at least? The moon? The stars?
“Goddess?” I whispered, surprising myself. I glanced up at nothing. “Moon Goddess? Can you hear me?”
Maybe I had been spending too much time with them. With Zane and Blake. Maybe that was how I came up with this.
But… it still didn’t make sense.
Why was I calling on a deity they believed in? I’d never believed in the Moon Goddess.
“Are you there?” I still asked.
Something rustled behind me, and I swiftly turned, this time the surroundings looking lighter. My eyes widened and I looked up to find myself staring at the night sky.
And surely, the moon gleamed in the sky, shining its light upon everything around me.
A grateful cry left my lips, and more tears rolled down my cheeks. “Thank you,” I whispered, before turning my attention back to the source of the rustling sound.
A few feet away from me, was a pair of glowing eyes.

A wolf’s, surely.
I sucked in a breath and stepped back.

Those weren’t Zane’s eyes. Or Blake’s. They weren’t blue or green and gold. It was someone else. Or something else.
A soft whimper came from it. Friendly, almost sweet.
I frowned, feeling the fear slowly leave my body.
Taking a deep breath, I stepped closer to it, and reached out my hand.
The wolf hesitantly stepped forward, its coat white as snow—no, in fact, it was silver. Its brown eyes twinkled as it stared at me, lowering itself to the ground, as if it didn’t want to scare me. It carefully crept towards me, and I curled my toes to stand my ground. When it reached me, I gently rubbed its head, a smile taking over my lips as it wagged its tail.
“Hey,” I said softly. “Who are you?”
There was another rustle from the branches, and I moved to look, to find two pairs of glowing wolf eyes reflecting from the dark this time.
I took a step back, slightly afraid.
“I think it’s your parents,” I whispered to the wolf beside me.

The wolf whimpered, and then bit onto the hem of my dress, tugging at it.
“You want to take me somewhere?” I asked.
It tugged again, gesturing with its head towards its parents.
“You’re not gonna make a meal out of me for your family, right?” I laughed nervously.
It shook its head, as though it understood every word. It probably did. Maybe it was a werewolf. In fact, it definitely was.
So I went along with it into the bushes, pushing aside the hanging vines and stepping over the shrubs. But the wolf’s
parents were gone now.
It continued to lead me deeper inside the darkness, and I held onto its silver fur, following it mindlessly. It wasn’t like I had much of an option. I was stranded in a thick forest with no sense of direction and no way to call for help.
Finally, we came to a clearing.
There was a body of water in front of me, a small, glittering pond.
“Oh, did you bring me here for water?” I asked.

The wolf nudged my back this time, asking me to go towards it
on my own now.
I frowned, but obliged.
I was thirsty, maybe it knew somehow.
But when I bent over to cup some water into my hands, I froze at the reflection.
It was me.
But my eyes matched the silver wolf’s. They were glowing.
I turned around, and it was gone.
Please…
A faint voice echoed through the silence.
My eyes widened, and I looked around, searching.
Come back to me…
I recognised the voice.
It was Zane.
It was… my mate.

Please, Lia. Wake up.
It got clearer once I recognised it.
“Zane,” I whispered. “Where are you?”
Lia, I’m right here, he cried. Wake up. Open your eyes.
I frowned.

“They are. What… what do you…” I looked around, unable to understand what was happening.
Something wet fell onto my forehead, making me flinch. I touched it, and it was just water. I glanced up at the sky. It was blue now. Clear and vibrant. A lot like the shade of Zane’s eyes.
I frowned, glancing down at the wetness on my fingertips. I rubbed my thumb against it.
Maybe it wasn’t rain.
Maybe it was… a tear?
Lia, I heard a guttural voice now, making me flinch. Wake up! The ground shook.
Then a loud, piercing howl thundered through the forest, vibrating throughout my body, making my skin burst with tingles.

My eyes shot open, and I gasped, sitting up.

“Lia,” Zane grabbed my face with both hands, his cheeks stained with tears. “You’re okay. Thank the Goddess, you’re okay,” he cried, and pulled me to his chest.
I closed my eyes, his delicious scent washing over me, calming my heart.
“You’re okay, love,” he whispered, gently rubbing my back. “I thought I lost you.”
I glided my fingers over his skin, the sparks electrifying. “I’m fine,” I whispered, my lips murmuring against his chest.
He pulled away and cupped my cheeks, leaning in and pressing a kiss to my forehead. “How do you feel?” he asked, pushing my hair away from my face.
I smiled at him. “I feel like… I’ve been reborn.”
