Chapter 65 – Good Night–1
–LIA’S POV–

“It’s alright,” I said, suppressing the smile begging to spread on my lips.
“Thank you,” he said, before moving to my side to examine my
arm.
He found the knot Emerald had tied and attempted to undo it, but gave up when it didn’t immediately budge. He then grew the nail of his index finger into a claw, and used it to make a clean cut through the bandage. Then, he easily unwrapped it from my arm, his fingers occasionally brushing my skin in the process.
There was an unspoken silence in the air as Zane freed my wound from the dirty bandages, placing them aside on the floor. He stared at the claw marks, which were surprisingly much much more healed than one would expect. I thought he would say something, but he seemed unfazed by the miraculous healing of the gashes. He grabbed the first aid kit from the sink and wet a ball of cotton. Wordlessly, Zane began to clean the blood off my arm, staying away from the cuts, his movements precise.
I stared at the way his brows furrowed slightly whenever he had to clean too close to the cuts. The way he sucked in his lower lip when a stain of blood required more effort than others. Every time I flinched, his blue eyes would shoot to mine, all his actions

stopping instantly. He wouldn’t resume until I gave him a nod, and until then, he’d gently blow on the cuts to help with the stinging.

I watched Zane as he tied the now bandages around my arm, slow and cautions, firmly, yet without hurting me. The tingles that shot through my son when we touched helped forget any bit of pain I falt, also proceeding to numb my brain to anything other than desire.
The desire to kiss him again. The desire to have those sparla shooting up every part of my body. The desire to be wrapped up in him completely, every inch of his skin pressed against
mina.
He tied the knot, and he was done, But his fingers lingered on my arm for a good moment before withdrawal.
“There,” he said, “all done.”
I reached out with my other hand, and traced my fingers down his cheek. Zane’s eyes fluttered close, and be leaned into the touch, dased.
Thank you,” I said softly, my gas dropping to his lips over and over. I tore my eyes away from him, looking to the side. But I didn’t have it in me to withdraw my hand yet.
As if hearing my thoughts, he quickly caught hold of my wrist, pressing my hand tighter against his face.

My heart gave a thump in my chest, and then I heard a thump of another.
I glanced at him, my mouth parting in surprise. I’d heard his heartbeat again. I was certain of it.
Now that I focused on it, I realised I could hear every single one of them. The rhythmic, yet quick beats of his heart.
I placed my other hand against his chest, my brows furrowing slightly.
Zane opened his eyes and glanced down at my hand, then at me.
“It beats only for you, Lia,” he said softly. “There is no other
reason.”
I leaned forward now, not able to hold back.
But Zane placed his hand over my mouth, making me stop before our lips could touch.
I stared at him, feeling slightly betrayed.
I had wanted it so bad.
“I can’t, Lia. Not right now.”
“Why?” I whispered, hating the sound of my voice.

“I can’t guarantee your safety if I’m distracted tonight. I have to take care of you, not daydream about all the things I want to do to you.”
I took his hand and lowered it from my lips. “What do you want to do to me?” The words left my mouth before I could stop myself.
Zane’s eyes darkened, and he sucked in a breath, turning away from me. “Don’t,” he warned.
I swallowed. “I wanna know,” I pushed.
A low growl escaped his mouth, sending a shiver through me.
“Lia, you cannot escape me tonight. Please, don’t do this. You’ll make me do something I will regret,” he gritted out.
“Alright,” I whispered, “I’m sorry.”
“Leave, please. Go out. I will clean up here.”
Without any arguments, I stood up and left the washroom, closing the door behind me. I leaned against it then, taking in a deep breath, my heart pounding. I glanced up at the ceiling, my eyes wide.
“What was I doing?” I muttered to myself, before making my
way to my closet. I picked out my pajamas and quickly put them on, thankfully before he stepped out.

“Look at you,” he said with a smile, “all ready for bed.”

“Yeah,” I said. “Thank you, Zane. For staying to protect me.”
“There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you, Lia Snow.”
I blushed, lowering my gaze.
“By the way,” he said, “you look pretty without your glasses.”
I glanced at him. “What?”
“Your glasses.”
My mouth fell open. “Wait, I was wearing contact lenses,” I whispered. “I can’t feel them anymore. They must have slipped up my eyes during all that!” I rushed to the mirror, my eyes wide. “You’re not even supposed to sleep with lenses on and I was unconscious for so long.”
“They’re not, I removed them,” Zane said.
I paused. “You what?”
“I removed them when you were unconscious. Before we even got to the pack house. I removed them in the car.”
“How did you know to do that?”

“You weren’t wearing your glasses, so it was obvious. I know they can be dangerous if you sleep with them. So I removed. them.”
My heart melted once more.
“Zane, you’re the most thoughtful man I’ve ever met,” I said honestly. “How do you do this? How do you take care of everything?”
“Not everything,” he smiled, “just you, love. It might sound desperate, but, my life kind of revolves around you.”
I smiled. “It does?”
“Yeah.”
“Isn’t that bad and codependent?”
He chuckled. “Maybe for humans it is. They’re a bunch of wussies. Afraid to love their partners to
much.”
I grinned. “I guess it’s different for werewolves.”
“We exist to make our mates smile, Lia. We don’t believe in personal lives.”
I laughed. “That’s… cute.”
“I know, right?”

I nodded. “I should sleep now,” I said, taking a deep breath. My heart was so full. “Good night.”
I climbed into bed, and Zane approached at once, to tuck me in. I raised my brows at him. “I am not a little girl.”
“You don’t have to argue with everything.”
I smiled in defeat, and let him cover me with the blanket. Zane sat down on the edge of the bed, staring down at me. “Good night, love. I hope you will rest assured that you and your parents are safe. I will not let anyone or anything harm you again. I promise.” He leaned in and pressed a kiss to my forehead.
“I know,” I replied, smiling at him. “Thank you.”
“Shh. Stop thanking me now. Go to sleep.” He gently covered my eyes with his hand, making me close them. Then he stood up and put out the lights, before taking a seat on the couch.
I discreetly opened one eye to look at him.
“I can see in the dark, Lia. Eyes closed.”
I quickly shut it, like a child caught awake.
Zane chuckled. “Cutie.”

This time, I didn’t open my eyes again, and the exhaustion from the day finally started to weigh in. Before I knew it, I had drifted off into a deep sleep.
