Chapter 84 – Protect–1
–LIA’S POV–
I gasped, panic surging through me.
How the hell did I end up here?
I looked around to find something to cover myself with.

Thankfully, my gaze fell on a brown cloth lying on the ground at a distance, probably the remnants of a tent someone had set up to camp there. I crawled to it, trying to focus only on the task at hand. I couldn’t think about anything else at the moment if I had to get home. If I allowed myself to get distracted by what was happening to me, I wasn’t going to make it out of there alive.
After I wrapped the dirty, twig and grass infested cloth around me as best as I could, I carefully stood up, sniffing. Tears pricked my vision as I glanced up at the sky. It was dim, but not completely dark. I couldn’t understand if it was about to be dawn, or if it was late in the evening. The former would be safer, but if it was the latter, I had to get out of here fast.
I took a deep breath to reduce the burning in my throat. I was on the verge of sobbing. Nothing made sense.
How could I end up here? Who would bring me here? Was this a kidnapping? Could it be Blake? Or The Order? Whoever brought me here, where were they now?

I didn’t know the kind of danger I was in
And my clothes were gone.
Thankfully, nothing hurt, so I was probably not raped.
But I could be in for blackmailing. I could be trafficked. Anything could happen next.
And where was Zane when I was being taken?

He’d said his werewolves were right outside. He’d said they would protect me. That he would come for me if anything went wrong. How could they not see me being kidnapped?
Unless… whoever took me killed them.
away,
Hot tears rolled down my cheeks, and I wiped them thinking about what to do next. I couldn’t allow myself to fall apart. Zane would come for me. I was positive. I only had to hold out until he would. I only had to find a way to let him know where I was.
There was the obvious way: I could scream at the top of my voice and hope that his super hearing would somehow catch my
voice.
But if I were kidnapped, screaming would tell them I was awake and they could show up and hurt me.

Although, if they wanted to, they would have already. I didn’t even know how long I’d been out.
So I decided to take my chances.
Taking a deep breath and mustering all the strength I had, I let out a scream, as loud and piercing as I could manage.
A few birds flapped away from the trees, but that was all that happened.
I waited for a few moments, gathered my strength, and then screamed again. This time, I yelled out Zane’s name.
“I’m here!” I cried out next, before my voice cracked.
I took another breath, to keep the sobs away. I did not want to break down. I refused to.
I had to be strong in order to survive.
I started to walk, randomly, in whatever direction seemed lighter. When I glanced up at the sky again, it had thankfully gotten lighter than earlier. That meant it was dawn. The sun would be out soon and it would make it easier to navigate my way home.
I kept walking for what felt like forever, until my feet started to hurt, not from exhaustion but from all the twigs and tiny

branches and stones that had impaled my soles. I pushed my hair away from my face, looking around. The forest was vibrant with colours and alive with movement, and yet it felt like the emptiest and quietest place in the world. I recoiled as my gaze fell upon a centipede climbing up the trunk of a tree in a distance, its antennae wiggling in a creepy way.
I swallowed, stepping further away from it, when suddenly realisation hit me.
How the hell was I seeing all of this?
I looked around, focusing my gaze on the furthest tree that I could spot. My mouth fell open as I realised I could see more than just a vague shape of it. I could actually see the patterns on the bark, the movement of the tiny leaves, and even the insects that crawled up it.
I didn’t even have my glasses on, and yet I could see everything. More than everything. I could see the things I was certain no human could ever spot.
My eyes widened and I glanced around, my heart hammering in my chest.
Could it be…?
No, that wasn’t possible.
I was a human. No one had turned me. I would’ve known if they

had. Zane had told me the method. It was a long, complicated process, not something so easy and quick that I wouldn’t even know if it were done to me.
This wasn’t possible.
I ignored the panic building up my chest and quickened my pace, hurrying forward. I had to get out of this stupid forest and then everything would be fine. I could find my way home easily after that. Zane was probably looking for me already. He’d find me any second now. All I had to do was keep my cool.
Yeah, I was going to get through this.
