–ZANE’S POV–

“You
didn’t see anything out of the ordinary, you didn’t see anything enter her house, but a white light escaped her window and then Lia was just gone? Are you on some kind of drugs? Did The Order get to you and inject you with something?”
“No, Alpha,” Mason said, frowning. “I am telling you exactly what happened. Ask her!” He pointed out Ellic.
“He’s telling the truth, Alpha. We were very focused. I was watching the back of the house, Mason was at the front. Neither of us saw anything enter. When Mason saw the light, he called me in a panic. Her curtain was still moving when I got under her window. We climbed up to her room and found it empty. There were no signs of any struggle. All other windows and doors of the house were closed and locked. Only hers was open, and we had our eyes on it the whole time. I swear, Alpha.”
I ran a hand through my hair, and closed my eyes, trying to relax. She was fine. She had to be. I would find her. It had only been fifteen minutes to her disappearance. She couldn’t have been taken too far.
“Walker,” I said.
“I’m on it,” Aaron said, taking Sheila’s hand and leaving

Warner and Ajax waited for me to give them the command.
“The woman in our dungeon,” I said, looking at Warner. “Do whatever you have to. Threaten to turn her into what she’s spent her entire life hating. But bring me my Lia.”
Warner nodded and left the room.
I stared at Ajax, my strong front starting to crumble.
“You come with me,” I said softly. “We’ll take as many people as we can and look for her.”
“Okay,” he nodded, “but where do we start?”
“The forest in front of her house. If she’s there, I’m sure I’ll sense her.”
“Okay, let’s go. We’ll find her, Zane. Don’t worry.”
I took a deep breath and nodded.
I couldn’t feel her presence.
We combed through the entire woods in front of her house, but Lia was nowhere to be found. There was no sign of her. Not her

scent, not her clothes, not anything else. She wasn’t here, that
was certain.
But where could she have gone?
Sheila and Aaron finished questioning Blake and called me. Blake had no idea where she was. When they got there, he had been fast asleep in his bedroom. It couldn’t have been him. He offered to help look for her, but they warned him to stay away and left his house to join us in the search.
I’d never felt so helpless before.
When Lia had been attacked, when she was fighting for her life, at least I knew I could turn her any second. I could do more to save her life. She was in front of me, with me.
But now, she could be anywhere.
They could be hurting her. Torturing her. They could kill her. And I wouldn’t be there to protect her.
I promised her and her parents that I wouldn’t allow anyone to harm her.
And now I didn’t even know where she was.
I was pathetic.
The Hounds approached me in the forest, Warner covered in

splatters of blood.
I glanced at him in question.
Warner shook his head. “She didn’t know anything.”
“Did you ask her properly, Warner?” I snapped.
“Of course, Zane. Are you doubting my methods?”
“Did you push her to her absolute limit?”

“She was sobbing like a child by the end. I broke her, Zane. I was ruthless. But she doesn’t know. If you want, you can kill her.”
I sighed, looking away from him.
“I’m going to find her,” I stated. “She told me she would scream my name if she was in any danger. I have to comb through the entire town.”
“She could be gagged,” Ajax muttered. “She’s a human. They’re very easy to silence. All it takes is a few pieces of duct tape.”
I shot him a look, and he flinched. “I’m just saying the facts. Don’t look at me like that.”
“Do you guys think it could be someone from our pack?” I asked.
“No,” Sheila said, frowning. “Why would you think that?”

“I’ve heard rumours the pack disapproves of a human Luna,” I replied.
“Still, Zane. No one would dare to pull something like this. They all love and respect you. There is no one capable of this. I think it’s The Order.”
“I think it’s Blake,” Ajax said. “He’s the one with the most motive.”
“If it were either, how did Ellic or Mason not see them? Neither of them is irresponsible. They’re both my best spies, nothing misses their eye. If anyone entered her house, they would’ve seen them.”
“Then who could it be? What could have happened?” Sheila said.
“I don’t know. But I will not sit back until I have her. Let’s go. I will turn this town upside down if I have to. I want Lia before sunrise.”
