Chapter 117 – Mr. and Mrs. Alpha–1
–LIA’S POV–
I stepped inside the mansion, getting immediately surrounded by grandeur. The air was cool and comforting, the ceiling high and the place lit brightly. It didn’t smell like bleach or cold marble like I’d expected a place this fancy to. Instead, it smelled like rosemary, old books, and something sweet baking in the oven. It felt like home.
Zane’s mom turned back to us with a smile, her dark hair falling past her shoulders in gentle waves. She looked exactly like him, but different. They had the same blue eyes and the same defined cheekbones, but she lacked the aura of power and danger that accompanied Zane everywhere he went. Mrs. Adams’s was much more warm and welcoming.
“I’m Arielle,” she said. “And inside is my husband, Rowan.”
She led us down the hall, and I clutched Zane’s hand tighter.
“Are you nervous?” he asked, glancing down at me with a smirk.
“Are you kidding? They’re your parents. You might not care what they think of me, but I do.”
He laughed under his breath, brushing his lips over my knuckles. “You’ll be fine. My mom already likes you.”

“How do you know?”
“It’s written all over her face. She grinned so wide.”
“She could be pretending.”
“She’s not.”
I groaned softly. “You could’ve warned me before bringing me here, you know? I could have dressed better.”
“You look gorgeous.”
“To you.”
He only chuckled, dragging me into a large sunlit room with floor–to–ceiling windows, and a view of the woods stretching out beyond the backyard. At the center was a long table, and at the head, a man with dark brown hair and lines on his face that made him look serious, until he looked up and grinned.
Oh God, his smile was just like Zane’s. I immediately felt like I’d known him forever.
“You must be Lia,” he said, standing and walking over.
“Hello, Mr. Adams.”
“Oh, none of that,” he said, waving a hand before pulling me into a surprising hug. “I’m Rowan. Welcome to our home.”
