Chapter 118 – Mr. and Mrs. Alpha–2
–LIA’S POV–
“Smelled me?” I muttered, my cheeks flaming.
“I mean when he turned sixteen and felt drawn to you for the
first time.”
“I think I have an idea,” I laughed.
“The way he ran,” Rowan said dramatically.
“Ran?” I grinned.
“Yes. He shifted and ran out like he would attack you when he’d see you. We were downright worried for you.”
Zane rolled his eyes. “It wasn’t like that.”
“It was,” Rowan said. “And then he came back in shock. He was
dazed.”
“Yeah, so dazed,” Arielle agreed.
My cheeks were hurting by now, from smiling too hard.
Rowan chuckled. “We were actually concerned that something
was wrong. But nope. Just puberty, hormones, and a soul bond with the girl he bullied.”

“It was shocking!” Zane defended.
“Because you were an idiot your whole life.”
Zane covered his face. “I hate you both.”

Rowan only laughed harder. “You’re lucky your mom stopped me from filming that. It was gold.”
“We should get back to school,” Zane said flatly, starting to get
- up.
I leaned against him, grabbing his arm tightly. “This is the best day of my life.”
He groaned.
“So,” Arielle said, changing the subject. “Tell us about yourself, Lia. What do you like? What don’t you like? What do your parents do? Did you tell them about us yet?”
“They know about Zane and I dating, but not about everything else. I intend to keep it that way as long as I can. They already had a lot of trouble processing that I’m dating him.”
Zane snorted.
“That’s understandable,” Arielle nodded.

“More about yourself, honey. What makes you smile except this. idiot?”
“Nothing,” Zane cut in, nudging me with his elbow. “Only me.”
I swatted his arm. “Okay, fine. Yes. But also, I like coding, even though I haven’t touched a keyboard in months now. I like rainy days. I like burgers. I surprisingly like the Hounds, and my best friend Christy.”
“You like the Hounds?” Rowan asked, surprised. “Didn’t they lock you inside a locker once?”
Zane’s eyes widened. “How do you know about that?”
“I may not be Alpha anymore, son, but I know everything that goes on,” he said proudly.
“The Hounds… are an acquired taste. I like them. They’re fun to be around once you get on their good side.”
Arielle laughed. “You’re not on their side. You’re above.”
“That’s not true. I—I don’t consider myself anything special.”
Rowan frowned. “Why not? You’re about to be Luna of our pack. You are very special, Lia. As special as Zane is.”
I glanced at him. “I could never be as special as him.”

“Don’t say that,” Zane frowned.

“Yes, please don’t. He’s gonna start thinking he’s too incredible, just like his father. It gets annoying after a while,” Arcilla said.
As the lunch went on, the conversation flowed easily. Arielle asked about my parents, and I told her a bit. She didn’t pry. Rowan asked about school, and I answered between bites of pasta. They both shared more stories about Zane’s childhood—how he once shifted into a wolf too soon and got stuck halfway, how he cried the first time he saw snow, and how he thought he could marry the moon one day.
“Explains a lot,” I muttered, and Zane chuckled.
Later, we moved to the living room. Zane sat beside me, his fingers laced through mine, his thumb tracing lazy circles over the back of my hand. His parents watched us quietly, a soft look in both their eyes.
“You know,” Arielle said, “Zane used to be… closed off. Distant. Not because he was cold, but because he felt everything too deeply. It scared him.”
I looked at him, but he didn’t say anything.
“I’ve never seen him this open,” she continued. “Not even with us. So thank you, Lia.”
I blinked, a little stunned. “I didn’t do anything.”

“Yes, you did,” Rowan said. “You made him happy.”

Zane shifted beside me, leaning into me a little more. His hand squeezed mine, just once.
I smiled. “Well… he makes me happy too.”
Arielle beamed. “Then we’re even.”
For a while, we sat in comfortable silence. The kind that only existed between people who have known each other for years. The sun filtered in through the windows, casting golden patterns on the floor, and I leaned my head on Zane’s shoulder, closing my eyes for a moment.
When I opened them, Arielle was watching me with a gentle
smile.
“We’re glad you’re here, Lia,” she said. “Really.”
I nodded, swallowing past the lump in my throat. “Me too.”
Zane kissed the top of my head.
“I think we should get back to school now,” he said softly.
“Oh, yeah. School.” I nodded, sitting up straight.
“Do visit us again, both of you. We had a lot of fun,” Arielle said.

“We definitely will,” I promised as we both stood up.
His parents approached us, taking turns to hug us.

“See you guys soon. Thank you so much for having us,” I said, before we made our way to the door.
“It was our pleasure, honey. Take care.”
“You too,” I smiled, stepping out of the mansion.
