Chapter 122 – Murder–1
–LIA’S POV–

My heart knocked at my ribs, and I shuffled away until my back was against a tree. The world blurred and spun, my breath coming in difficult gasps, hands shaking uncontrollably.
I couldn’t have done this. No. I wasn’t capable of something like that.
I closed my eyes shut, trying to steady my breathing.
Everything was going to be fine. Everything would be alright.
I’d gotten through a lot in these last few months.
This was the same. It would be over soon.
“Zane,” I whispered, my voice breaking, “Find me. Please.”
I took a large gulp of air, but the stench of blood filled my nostrils. I retched, turning my face to the side, before emptying my guts onto the ground. Coughs shook me, and I stood up, my vision blurred with tears.
My mind numbed when I glanced at the mess I’d created.
The vomit was red too.

I covered my mouth. “No… no, it can’t be.”
The ground tilted. Or maybe it was me.

I stumbled back against the tree, my palms scraping against the bark. My chest heaved up and down, each breath harder than the last. It felt like time had slowed down, like it was mocking me for being a murderer, a… monster. Everything was falling apart. I’d never felt worse. I’d never been in a tougher situation. And I was completely alone.
A sound caught my ear. I flinched, huddling into a tree, my heart racing even quicker and louder.
Another sound followed, and I realised it was actually a voice. There was someone here. If I was found like this, I’d be jailed for homicide. Maybe sent to a mental assylum for being a sociopath.
Maybe that was what I deserved.
“Lia?”
The voice cut through the fog in my head. Sharp. Familiar. But it was not the one I wanted to hear.
Footsteps thundered toward me. “Don’t move, it’s just me.”
Pushing through the branches, Blake stepped, a look of deep concern on his face. His eyes travelled down my body, and I quickly moved behind the tree to hide myself from him. More

tears rolled down my cheeks as he stared at me, then glanced at the dead person on the floor.
The look he gave me said it all.
He believed I had done it.
And maybe he was right.
He took a step towards me, and I flinched. “Don’t!” I screamed. “Sta—sta—stay away from me!” I’d never stuttered harder before. I’d never panicked more in my entire life. Everything was shaking.
“Hey,” Blake said softly, raising his hands in surrender. “Relax, Lia. It’s gonna be fine.”
“Stay away,” I warned, my voice trembling.
“I can’t leave you out here. We need to go. Wild animals will find this body soon. We don’t wanna be here when that happens, okay? Let’s go. Come with me,” he tried to reason.
But I coudn’t see sense. I couldn’t decide whether to trust him. He’d saved my life a day back, but he’d also tried to force himself onto me. I couldn’t go with him. Not like this, not when I was
naked.
“Zane,” I said. “Call—call Zane.”

“Lia,” Blake stepped forward, “I promise you that I will. I don’t have my phone on me right now. I know you probably don’t believe me, but you can come check. I was just out on a walk, trying to heal. Being close to nature helps werewolves. You can ask Zane later on. But you have to go home with me.”
I shook my head. “I don’t trust you, Blake.”
He lowered his gaze, guilt contorting his features. “I know. And you have every reason not to. But I swear to the Goddess, Lia, I won’t hurt you
mistake that or try anything today. I promise. I made a
mistake that day. I won’t repeat it.”
I sniffed, feeling nauseated again. My eyes flew to the dead body, and I retched loudly, watching as a few flies buzzed around it. Another vomit tore through me, this one even more bitter than the previous. Blake rushed to my side now, and held back my hair, rubbing my back.
“Don’t–” I wanted to tell him to stop touching me, but a retch cut me off again. Once I let everything out, I pushed him away, tears leaving my eyes. “Please,” I begged, shaking with sobs. “I need Zane. Please, Blake. Get me Zane.”
Blake stared at me with a deep frown, before stepping forward and grabbing me.
I screamed, afraid, but he refused to let go, pulling me to hist chest.

I struggled against him, screaming and crying, until exhaustion took over. My head rested against his chest, and I allowed. myself to give in, to accept his comfort.
“What’s happening to me?” I asked, feeling utterly and completely helpess.
“Shh…” Blake soothed, letting go of me to take off his t–shirt.
“What are you–” I began, until he put it on me. I put my hands through the sleeves, and gladly, his t–shirt covered my hips. “Tha—thank you,” I sniffed, hugging myself.
“Let’s go, Lia. Please, trust me. I will call Zane as soon as we get back, I promise.”
No. I couldn’t trust him. He’d tried to mark me. If he marked me, I would lose the choice. I would lose Zanc.
But my knees buckled. Blake caught me before I hit the ground.
“I’m not gonna hurt you,” he said, softer now, crouched with me in the dirt. “You’re bleeding. You’re shaking. Let me help, please.”
I wanted to say no. Wanted to tell him to back off, that Zanet would be here any minute. But my head felt like it was going to burst. The forest started to spin again, different coloured spots clouding my vision.

I tried to push Blake away. But my arms barely moved.
The last thing I felt was him lifting me off the ground, arms steady around me as I slipped into darkness.
