Chapter 136 – Kindness–2
–BLAKE’S POV–

When I woke up, my skin was on fire.
A groan escaped my mouth as I blinked against the darkness. My head pounded, my limbs throbbed, and an awful burning sensation crawled along my body. I tried to move, but something held my wrists and ankles in place.
Chains.
Thick metal ones.
Laid with silver and wolfsbane and some other kind of poison.
I squinted in the dark, barely able to see the rough stone walls around me. The floor beneath me was cold and damp. My shirt was gone, and my back was jammed to the concrete. There were cuffs on my wrists, chained to the wall behind me, and more wrapped around my ankles. I pulled once, twice, straining against them with everything I had.
They didn’t budge.
I gritted my teeth and growled, trying to shift again, but pain shot through my body like a million needles stabbing me all at once. I couldn’t breathe. My bones refused to change.
I whimpered before I could stop myself.

I pulled against the cuffs again, hissing as the burning grew worse. “If you touch her–”
“Oh, relax,” she interrupted. “No one’s touching her. How can we? She has a whole pack supporting her. That guy Zane, the one with the pretty blue eyes, he’s too protective. He put a tracker inside her.”
I hadn’t known that.
That was why Lia wanted to meet at her house and nowhere else.
The girl stood and walked over to the little metal table in the corner. There was a tray on it. I couldn’t see what was on it, but the sound of clinking metal told me what I needed to know.
She came back with bolt cutters.
I clenched my jaw. “You’re wasting your time. I’m not giving you anything.”
She just stood in front of me, calm as ever.
“You don’t have anything I want,” she said softly. “It’s actually the other way around.”
I frowned. “What?”
She smiled again.
“You’ll find out soon enough. Welcome to The Order, Blake Waker.”
