Chapter 29

“How the hell should I know?” Blake gripped Amber’s hand, seeing sweat still beading on her forehead.

Jackson, understanding his urgency, first checked her temperature. No fever. “Bring some sugar water. She has low blood sugar.”

Blake immediately had the housekeepers bring sugar water.

Jackson continued his examination, hearing Amber whimpering softly about pain below.

Wearing white gloves, he glanced at Blake after hearing this.

Blake shifted uncomfortably, running a hand through his hair. “I couldn’t help myself.”

Jackson didn’t say a word. He pulled back the blanket to examine her, but Blake grabbed his wrist in a flash.

“And just where do you think you’re looking?” he demanded.

Jackson’s brow furrowed as he recalled something. He pulled out a tube of ointment. “Apply this three times daily. Check if there’s any tearing. If it’s just minor, she should recover quickly. Her constitution is weak-the aftereffects of that car accident years ago still linger. She doesn’t seem to have been eating properly these past few years. She needs time to recover.”

Blake accepted the ointment silently.

After Jackson left, he first fetched a basin of water and carefully washed her entire body with a towel. Finally, he lifted the covers to check her condition and applied the medicine.

To the naked eye, there were no injuries. She had probably fainted from low blood sugar combined with her emotional state and struggle.

He sighed with relief. By the time he finished, it was nearly midnight.

When a housekeeper entered, she saw him wiping Amber’s fingers with a towel, each one cleaned meticulously, as if handling fragile porcelain.

These housekeepers were all newly hired, the previous ones having been dismissed.

“Sir, do you need more sugar water?”

“No, take it away.”

He studied Amber’s face, noticing her color had improved significantly before setting the washcloth back in the basin.

The housekeeper didn’t dare linger, quickly carrying the bowl out. As she closed the door, she caught a glimpse of Blake sitting on the edge of the bed, gently labbing Amber’s forehead with a tissue to wipe away her perspiration.

They had been instructed on their first day to treat Amber as the true lady of the house.

They had previously worked at the Westwood mansion and had certainly heard rumors about Amber.

Everyone said the master didn’t love his wife, that he loathed her deeply. But his current behavior didn’t resemble someone who didn’t care.

In the night, Amber developed a high fever and dreamed of her first time with Blake-

That night they’d slept in each other’s arms, but she’d been upset about something. Somewhat disappointed the next morning, she knocked back an entire bottle of cheap vodka from the corner store just to work up the courage to face the day.

Blake had angrily grabbed the bottle, holding the back of her neck to make her spit it out.

The scene was still somewhat amusing in retrospect.

She had refused to spit, so he had kissed her.

What followed came naturally. Blake, two years her senior, also lacked experience and constantly monitored her reactions, halting at any sign of discomfort.

Amber hadnt fell uncomfortable, only a sense of boundless happiness.

Like any guy who’d just popped his cherry, Blake got hooked on the good stuff. They went at it like rabbits during that period, even though it was also when his work schedule was absolutely crushing him.

He had started his business venture during his junior year of college, constantly seeking investors and working tirelessly.

But whenever he had free time, they spent it in bed.

Blake would tell people that Amber was the best gift heaven had given him. She was his life, and he would never let her down.

As these memories drifted through Amber’s mind, tears slid down her face, disappearing into her hair.
