#Chapter 15 He won’t be crazy
Helen POV
A complicated silence f ell as the gate guards recognized Justin. I could tell they knew who he was within moments
and then I shivered hard from the fear they would take him away to be chained up again.
Whispers came from all around as people recognized the last Lycan had returned to Lone Wolf Estate.
“The last Lycan!” said several voices at once.
An older she–wolf said, “He’s crazy isn’t he? Why isn’t he in chains?”
I could practically feel her fear and, from the way the crowd kept backing away, bunching together as if readying themselves for an attack, it seemed other wolves were picking up her fear as well.
“How did he get loose?” asked an older Alpha. I thought he sounded personally affronted. Did he think the Alpha King had released Justin without making sure he was safe to go among others? He surely didn’t think Justin’s chains were possible to break.
“Aren’t the guards going to do something?” came from a powerful she–wolf from my own pack and I glared at her.
I realized I wasn’t sure who was really in danger here: Justin who might go back into captivity or the Alpha King’s guards who would have to face the last Lycan to take him down.
Justin didn’t move as people whispered all around. He didn’t move even when the whispers faded to an
uncomfortable silence. He didn’t even move when he was surrounded by guards all on his own with the rest of the wolves there for the Games held back by a group of guards.
“I see you’ve found your way home, Justin.”
I looked around quickly, shocked to see the Alpha King Juden himself walking across the estate grounds to meet with the guards of the gate. He had more guards -his personal guards- with him along with what must be his Beta, Randy who was to be Justin’s Beta, and some other high–ranking wolves.
Our society understood a show of strength; the Alpha King meant to show he was the one with all the power even if Justin was the last Lycan.
“I did, Alpha King. I’m only here to register for the Wolfen Games with my girlfriend,” Justin said the last as if he weren’t announcing to everyone he had found a mate.
I blushed a little when people began to look around and eventually eyes settled onto me.
Diana and Scott had different expressions on their faces as they looked at me. Diana looked as if she wanted to launch herself at me to claw my eyes out for daring to have a more powerful mate than her while Scott was incredulous, searching my figure and face as if he’d never seen me before.
Scott might not have ever looked at me before. Who knew?
We’d gone into our mating purely because we were fated mates and he found my status as an Alpha’s daughter acceptable. He had changed his mind when he’d met my pure white sister, Diana. I wasn’t sure I had ever looked at Scott directly myself.
“That isn’t a good idea, son. You know you can’t control yourself. You’ll go mad during the full moon the same as always,” the Alpha King declared.
The estate guards drew weapons to prepare to take Justin down. I knew tasers could do a lot of damage to a werewolf from the electric current and I thought I saw a few guns. Would they shoot him with a silver bullet?

Regular guns were a threat to everyone, but werewolves were able to heal quickly. A normal gunshot wound would heal in a day or two if the bullet or shrapnel was removed.
Silver was poisonous to our kind though and I was terrified they’d kill Justin out of fear for what he could do to them.
A fully grown Lycan who was no longer chained? Justin could easily overpower any two or three of the guards if not all of those there at the same time. He towered over them with his muscular form dwarfing them in his
shadow.
Everyone seemed ready for a fight. I looked to the Alpha King to see if he was going to order the guards to attack or if he was going to stand by Justin.
I saw Alpha King Juden had a smirk on his face I just wanted to slap away. He was so sure Justin would lose his mind at the next full moon as he had every one before. I knew he wouldn’t though. He had me now!
Justin had found his mate and I wasn’t going to let them throw him back into a windowless room in chains without a fight.
Crossing the line of guards, I walked over to stand beside Justin and slipped my hand into his where it hung at his side in a loose fist.
“What do you think you’re doing?” the Alpha King demanded.
I raised my chin, trying to look strong, as I said, “I’m standing by my boyfriend. Justin won’t lose control during the full moon anymore. His Lycan has found his mate. Me. He has control now.”
I hoped I was telling the truth. As far as I could tell, Justin was no longer a threat during the full moon because of his beast going mad. I wasn’t sure if he was able to control himself entirely, but I did believe he deserved a chance at freedom.
Justin looked down at me with a kind of confusion on his face I couldn’t understand. We weren’t fully mated yet so I didn’t have the matebond to draw on for information about his intentions. All I knew was what I could read from his body language and expression.
“It’s true,” Justin murmured, his low, deep voice echoing over the silent crowd, “I have found my mate. Helen of Fiery Cross is my girlfriend and fated mate. We have every right to participate in the Wolfen Games together. Unless you’re afraid to see what a Lycan can do against your wolves, Alpha King?”
Justin was playing a dangerous game, but I thought he’d made the smartest move he could.
Alpha King Juden couldn’t let his people believe he was afraid of his own son. He had to show his strength in front of his people or they’d lose respect for him.
All the rumors about what a Lycan could do only made it more important than ever for the Alpha King to show he wasn’t scared of his Lycan heir. He had to find a way to take back control without seeming desperate.
If he threw all his guards at Justin, it would imply Justin was too powerful for an Alpha to take down alone and if he tried to fight Justin himself only to lose?
Well. In wolfen society, if Juden lost in a battle of combat, whoever had beaten him was declared the new Alpha King.
“I suppose we’ll all take a chance and see if you’re right. I will allow Justin to register for the Wolfen Games. He will register as a member of Lone Wolf Pack however as he is my son and heir. I wouldn’t want it to be said I didn’t claim my own dear boy,” Alpha King Juden said, smirking as if he’d won a battle with his words alone.
I wasn’t even sure if there was a battle to be won between them. Was I being paranoid about how he was treating

Justin? Could he really only be cautious about how Justin would treat his people?
“You will win for our pack, won’t you, boy?” the Alpha King asked.

His brow was raised in silent question and I realized he didn’t know whether Justin had his powers or not.
He always thought Justin would lose his powers and his beast if he mated with a virgin she–wolf, but Justin had left after mating with me.
Alpha King Juden had no way of knowing whether Justin was still a full Lycan or not. He could be thinking Justin was bluffing. I wasn’t even sure how strong Justin was after our mating.
Great, I would be worried about how strong Justin remained.
I was so focused on Justin and the Alpha King, I didn’t notice Donna was with the group of high–ranking wolves who’d exited the estate with Juden.
The former tribute was dressed very well and wearing elaborate jewelry. Donna glared at me behind my back, her expression resentful and bitter.
A cold chill shivered up my spine and I got the sensation someone was watching me which was ridiculous, of course, because everyone was watching me as I stood in the circle of guards holding Justin’s hand.
Inever noticed how Donna’s expression got more and more twisted the longer she stared at me.
