Chapter 60
Alere grimaced when she saw Tank coming towards her as she sat at an employer’s desk installing new software. “Now what?” she muttered under her breath.
“Hey Cee,” he grinned at her.
“You only shorten my name when you want something.”
He grabbed his chest with wide eyes, “you wound me.”
“I have you pegged you mean.”
“I’m not into that.” He smirked.
“Ew, Tank!” she threw a pen off the desk at him.
“I heard you made friends with the bitchy one upstairs. I swear she makes me want to hide under my desk. Why is she so mean?”
* think she grew up surrounded by very wealthy people and her and Bastiano’s family were more down to earth. They didn’t spoil her or give her everything she wanted.”
“I think Kylen wants her.” Tank plunked on the edge of the desk. “To each their own man but she is scary.
she is scary.”
is trying to
“She’s not so scary. She talks a big talk because she’s surrounded by tough men who take no nonsense. They set an example, and she is live up to it. Also, I agree Kylen wants her. I saw the way he stared her down hard, She’s a lot younger than him though and he’s fighting it. I think the top floor is going to be full of sexual tension as long as she’s up there in her fancy clothes.”
“Speaking of the top floor, Tank started his segue.
“No. I’m not going back up there today. I spent too much time there yesterday.” She growled furiously.
“Well, I’m here to finish this task because the boss called you up to his office.”
No
“Look, I’m the messenger. Do not shoot me but I am not going back up there to be glazed at by the mean lady.”
“She’s just a kid Tank. Why don’t you go up and find out what the boss wants and then relay it back to me?”
“What if he wants a blowjob? I mean he’s your fiance.”
Her fingers stilled on the keyboard, and she turned slowly to face him, “are you done?”
“No because you’re still here. Come on, Cee. I’ve been up since four am because Kylen has me doing all kinds of extra work for Don Lozano. Please don’t make me be in the middle of your fight.”
“What fight?”
“Everyone noticed you two came in separately. He looks like death and as if he didn’t sleep all night or if he did it was on the sofa. You came in with such an impressive RBF the entire department pretended there were places they needed to be stat.”
“We’re not fighting. She frowned at him. “I simply had things to do this morning, and he took Ant to school.”
“Are you sure because you’re refusing to go upstairs?” Tank poked her curiously. “I would think if you were all hunky dory you’d be excited to go see your man. Clearly, it’s a huge fight and the entire building is gossiping. Is it you who hates when people talk about you at work?”
“Oh my god,” she pushed the chair back aware Tank was pushing her buttons purposefully, “you’re an asshole.”
“Still your supervisor,” he called out after her, but he was laughing at the insult as he took her seat.
She entered the elevator and made her way to the top floor, grumbling under her breath. Coming face to face with Avalanche as she exited the elevator made her grimace. “He brought her to work?*

Genevra nodded from where she was seated at her desk, “yes. I begged to let her sit with me for a while. Did you want her?”
“Nope.”
“You really don’t like ber?”
“It’s not I don’t like her, Genevra. Do you know what happens to pets?”
“No.”
“You get attached t
d to them. You get emotionally attached and then they die, and you feel sad. I have enough shit in my life without needing to cry over the loss of a dog.” She tried to ignore Avalanche, but she was whimpering at her feet as she knocked on the door..
“You don’t need to knock.” Genevra called out. “He said you can always go straight in. He told me to never har you entrance and you never need
to knock.”
Alere fought the smile on her face at the words and pushed the door open trying not to frown as Avalanche pushed past her to get into the office where Torq wa
“Ah.
1, there’s my girls.” Torq looked up from his laptop and smiled at her.
“You’re still lumping me in with the dog.”
“Your brown eyes are prettier, but she doesn’t stay mad at me.” Torq snickered as he pushed back away from his desk. “How is your morning going?”
“Busy.” She went to sit in the chair opposite his desk when he frowned and patted his knee. “Torq.”
“Please? I want to hold you”
This was the big bad mafia don who was rumored to leave grisly crime scenes in his wake. She shook her head at the thought and moved around the desk to sit on his lap.
“Why do I feel you’re about to deliver really bad news to me again?”
