Chapter 8
It wasn’t until after midnight that Alpha Kaelan finally brought Zaria home, his wolf pacing restlessly beneath his skin.[]
The pack doctor had repeatedly confirmed that her foot wasn’t injured, but Zaria kept crying that it hurt.[]
She’d forced Kaelan to stay with her through every single test, constantly asking where Lucian had gone.[]
“Did… did he go looking for Alina?”
Kaelan had never found his adopted sister this irritating before. His wolf was growing more agitated by the hour.[]
Now he couldn’t reach Alina through their sibling bond, and Lucian’s phone was going straight to voicemail too.
He was already frantic with worry, his Alpha instincts screaming that something was wrong, and Zaria kept clinging to his arm, sobbing dramatically.[]
Several times, he’d wanted to leave her there and go home alone–his wolf was practically howling to find Alina.[]
But thinking about how she’d lost her parents so young and was living under their pack’s protection, he couldn’t bring himself to abandon her. So he’d endured until 2 AM, every minute feeling like torture.[]
The moment he walked through the front door, Kaelan rushed straight to Alina’s room, his wolf’s anxiety spiking, but the scene
inside made him freeze in absolute horror.
In the midst of complete chaos, Alpha Lucian was slumped helplessly on the floor like a broken man.[]
He held a footprint–stained card in his left hand, while his right hand was cut and bleeding from glass shards, yet he kept stubbornly dialing the same number over and over.
Kaelan recognized those digits immediately–the same number he’d been calling all night.[]
No wonder neither of their calls were going through…]
“Lucian, what the fuck are you doing? Where’s Alina?“]
At the sound of his voice, Lucian’s head snapped up, and Kaelan finally saw–he’d been crying. This powerful Alpha had been sobbing like a broken child.]
This man, practically his little brother, had never broken down like this in Kaelan’s memory.[]
His eyes were red and swollen, his nose bright red, his lips cracked and dry.[]
The expression on his face looked blank at first glance, but on closer inspection… it was pure, devastating madness.]
Kaelan’s heart immediately plummeted as his worst fears began to take shape. His wolf was snarling now, sensing something terrible.
His voice shook with barely controlled rage: “Where’s Alina? What did you do to my sister?“[]
Hearing Kaelan’s words, Lucian’s eyes widened slightly.[]

Chapter 8
After a moment, he suddenly covered his face with both hands, laughing and crying at the same time–the sound making Kaelan’s skin crawl.]
“Yeah, what did I do to her? What the hell did I do to her?!“]
“What did I do? What did I do to my Alina?“]
He gently stroked the worn card with his clean hand, repeating the words on it over and over like a prayer.
“I promised her! I swore to her that I liked her most, that I only liked her! What… what the hell have I been doing all these years?”
Kaelan was completely lost and was about to demand answers when he noticed the closet behind Lucian, where his sister’s ceremonial gown from today was hanging.
A gown… stained with wine. The wine he had thrown.]
He winced as if someone had driven a silver blade through his chest, but then noticed an even more alarming dark red stain on the hem.
That wasn’t wine–it looked more like… blood?!
The sight hit him like a physical blow. His wolf let out a howl of pure anguish as Kaelan felt his vision go black, his legs nearly giving out as he almost collapsed like Lucian.]
No. No, no, no. What did we do?]
He frantically grabbed Lucian by the collar and hauled him to his feet, his Alpha strength fueled by terror and rage.
“Where is my sister? WHERE THE FUCK IS MY SISTER?!“]
His voice cracked on the last words, years of protective instincts and guilt crashing over him like a tidal wave.
“I don’t know! I really don’t know! Kaelan, she’s gone… she doesn’t want us anymore…“]
The next second, Kaelan’s fist connected with Lucian’s face with all the force of his self–hatred.]
“You piece of shit! What did you do to her?!“]
Zaria, who had been slowly making her way to the doorway, looked up to see this shocking scene.]]
Forgetting to keep up her act, she rushed over and grabbed Kaelan’s arm.
“Kaelan, don’t hit Lucian! What’s wrong with you two? Did Alina make you angry again?”
The moment she spoke, both Alphas eyes turned toward her in unison, and Kaelan felt something snap inside him.
The coldness and barely restrained violence in their gazes made Zaria immediately let go, finally understanding she’d crossed a line.
“What… what’s wrong? Wasn’t it Alina’s fault?“]

Lucian let out a bitter laugh that gradually bent his entire body over, making him look like a man who’d lost everything.
He reached out and grabbed the hollow–eyed Kaelan, his expression crazed, his voice breaking:
“Kaelan, bring her back! I know I was wrong! Please bring my Alina back… I’m begging you…“]
And Kaelan, staring at the blood on his sister’s dress, felt his world crumble completely. His wolf was keening in agony, and for the first time in his life as an Alpha, he had no idea what to do.
