Apollo was not answering any of my calls. I was not used to my son acting this strangely. Since the divorce, he has always answered all of my calls unless there was some sort of emergency, and he didn’t have the opportunity to pick up the phone,
The last conversation I overheard was still stuck in my head.
Apollo insisted that the girl I’d heard in the background that day was just some random woman from the club. However, I was having a hard time believing that.
I knew my son. He never entertained any of those women for long. He slept with them and then moved on to the next. That’s the cycle he was accustomed to.

However, whoever he was speaking to on that day seemed to have an impact on him. He mentioned protecting her, and I heard the concern in his voice while talking to her.
I kept asking him about it, but he simply ignored me and told me that I was being paranoid. The motherly instinct within me said otherwise. That girl sounded like trouble. I didn’t like her voice, and she seemed too interested in my son.
“Are you okay?” Jada asks me, noticing that I wasn’t fully in this conversation. “You seem to be distracted.”
Her question reminds me that I am not alone.
“Oh, it is nothing, sweetheart,” I assure her. “I am sorry that I haven’t been paying attention to our conversation.”
“No, it is completely fine.” She says as she waves her hands in front of me. “I was just concerned about you.”
She is such a sweetheart and would make the perfect daughter–in–law. I wanted someone who would listen to me, and Jada was the perfect candidate.
“I am trying to get through to Apollo,” I explain. “But for some reason, he is not answering me. I’m just hoping that it isn’t an emergency.”
“I am sure everything is okay.” She tries to reassure me.
I find myself gazing at my phone screen for what feels like the hundredth time, my fingers hovering anxiously over the keypad as I dial Apollo’s number
once more.
‘The number you are trying to call is not available right now.‘
What?
A sense of unease seeps into my thoughts.
Did he actually turn off his phone? I can’t believe he would do something like that. Apollo has always been the type to keep his phone on, no matter what, so he could answer my calls. This sudden silence from him is so out of character; I’m feeling more anxious than I ever have before. The thought of him deliberately ignoring me today when, just a few days ago, I overheard him showing concern for some random girl makes my stomach churn. What could possibly be going on that would lead him to shut himself away like this?
That was it. There was an unmistakable tension surrounding Apollo, a weight in the air that I could no longer ignore.
I felt an overwhelming urge to dive deeper into this unsettling feeling. My instincts were never wrong, especially when it concerned my son. I knew that if I didn’t uncover the truth soon, whatever was troubling him could spiral out of control, leaving problems for me to battle. He had been distracted for the past few weeks, and I needed to know why. I knew that he was keeping a big secret from me, and the only way for me to find out was seeing him in
person.
Apollo and I had an understanding. I let him live with his father as long as he agreed to answer my calls and update me every chance he got. Since he wasn’t doing that, I had to take matters into my hands once more.

Chapter 25
“Is everything okay, Miss Reign?” Jada asks me again. I’m sure my expression is one of horror. The poor girl came here to have a nice breakfast with me, and unfortunately, I was not giving her any attention..
I force a smile on my face. “Everything is more than okay, dear,” I tell her. “In fact, I was thinking, since my son is always so busy to visit us for dinner, why don’t we both pay him a surprise visit instead?”
Jada’s eyes light up at my suggestion.
“Do you really think you can make that happen?” She asks as she tries to maintain her composure.
Jada was a very proper and well–mannered young lady–better than all those other women Apollo had been wasting his time with while having ‘fun!
“Of course, I can, sweetie,” I assure her. “Apollo is my son. I can visit him whenever I please. I rarely do surprise visits, so he might be shocked to see me. However, if I know my son, I know that he will be happy that I am there.”
She smiles, “You are such a great mother to Apollo. He is so lucky to have you.”
She checks her watch. “I have a hair appointment and a nail appointment right after. So can we leave maybe later tonight or possibly in the morning? Whichever is better for you?”
I loved a lady that knew how to take care of herself. Jada was good at always looking beautiful without even having to try.
“I just know my son will be blown away when he meets you,” I say, which makes her smile brighter, “You take your time at the hair salon. We want you to look your best when you meet him for the first time. As you know, first impressions count.”
“I am so excited to see him,” she admits. “Should we take your private jet or mine?”
“Oh, don’t be silly, darling,” I tell her. “Of course, we will be taking mine. I am the one that’s dragging you away from your hometown to meet my son.”
This was important to me. Anastasia already believed that I had no control over my son in this matter, and I could not let her continue to think that way. Since Apollo wanted to turn his phone off and act this way toward his mother, he left me no choice but to meet him in person and find out exactly what was happening.
“You are not dragging me, Miss Reign.” She says with a shy smile. “I am more than happy to go with you and meet Apollo for the first time.”
I knew introducing Jada to Apollo would be only the beginning. He knew she was the woman I had chosen for him to spend the rest of his life with. She would be perfect for him. I didn’t want any other daughter–in–law; I planned on doing everything possible to ensure that happened.
There was not a better girl out there for Apollo. She would give him a brighter future than he already had. She would also support him more than any other woman would.
Since Apollo was twelve, I’ve had my eyes on Jada for him. She was always so respectful and truly a gem.
“I am so lucky to know someone like you,” she tells me with a pleasant smile. “I am sure that Apollo is a gentleman since you are his mother.”
“Of course,” I assure her. “Apollo will blow your mind away just like I’m sure you will blow his mind.”
I had to come up with the perfect plan. I knew my son. He would agree to the dinner with Jada if I requested him to do so in person. The phone was not doing me any justice.
She gets up from her chair and leans over to kiss me on the cheek. “Do not hesitate to call me and let me know when you want to leave.”
“Yes, dear,” I assure her as I pat her arm lightly. “I am excited about this. I have not seen my son in months. I just know that this journey will make our entire year!”
