~LANA~
I hurried to the window, a familiar instinct kicking in whenever I caught the distant rumble of Apollo’s truck approaching. The sound of its engine, a deep and throaty growl, always sent a thrill through me. I peered out through the glass, excitement in my heart.
I was happy when he exited the truck without a woman next to him like he usually did. Ever since the attack, Apollo has not brought home a single woman. I don’t think he’s been going out with them, either. It was a complete change from his usual behavior.
Things have been a little heated between us ever since I accidentally dropped my towel right in front of his room.
I was at first intentionally walking between bathrooms to tease him since I knew his room door was open. However, I never planned to spill my shampoo or drop my towel.
My cheeks are red at the reminder of that incident. I don’t know what I was thinking. What made it worse was that I had nothing on under the towel, which meant that I was completely naked in front of my step–brother.
Tinwardly groan. On the bright side, I don’t think he looked. He teased me about seeing everything, but his eyes remained respectfully on my face the entire time. For some reason, that little gesture made my heart beat a little more for him.
He was also home more often, barely in clubs or hosting parties. It hasn’t been that long since the attack, but it still felt good to see this change in him. I wasn’t sure how long it would last, however.
I rushed out of my room and into the hallway, pretending that I was reading a book. I wanted him to see me, but I didn’t want to make it obvious.
My heart skips a beat when he turns the corner and spots me. I’m not looking at him, but I can feel his eyes on my face.
“Not in a towel today?” he asks as he stops before me.
I roll my eyes, “No. As you can see, I’m reading.”
He chuckles, “Reading when the book is upside–down? That is a new way to read; I should try it sometime.”
I freeze.
I slowly gazed down at the book in my hand. He wasn’t lying; it was/upside down.
Oh no.
How could I embarrass myself like that? I’d rushed out of my room so quickly that I didn’t even think to check the book properly.
“An interesting choice.” He says as he watches the book cover. It was erotic, to say the least. A shirtless man and a woman in nothing but her panties on top of him.
“If you’re trying to learn about sex, I can teach you a thing or two about it.” He teases me as he leans into me.
I gasped when he pushed me up against the wall, “Do you want me to teach you?”
I can hardly breathe or think with him standing this close to me. His body was pressed up against mine, and I could feel him more than ever.
“Why are you so quiet?” he asks as he continues to lean into me. “You don’t think I can teach you?”
I place my hand on his chest, wondering if I should push him away. I’m shocked at my own actions when I grab onto his collar instead and pull him closer to me. “I don’t need you to teach me anything. I know plenty on my own.”
He growls, “and who the fuck taught you?”

i loved messing with him. I realized by now that mentioning other men in front of my mate got him all worked up. Even though he didn’t want a relationship with me, he could not deny the mate bond. It was pushing us together.
“That isn’t your business.” I snap.
I gasp when he grabs my hair and forces me to look up at him. “Tell me.”
84%
“I don’t have to tell you anything.” I tease him. “You don’t know everything about me, Apollo. There were times when you weren’t always around me. I had plenty of time to practice.”
I can sense his anger resurfacing.
Good.
This was payback for all the times that he hurt me by bringing random women over to our house. He may not realize it now, but it shattered me each time he did, and I never realized why until I found out that he was my mate.
“Like fucking hell you did.” He growls, not taking the news well at all.
“LANA?”
Apollo and I jump apart from hearing my mother shout my name.
My eyes are wide at almost getting caught with my step–brother.
“Yes, Mom?” I call back.
“There is someone at the door.” She shouts so that I can hear her. “They seem impatient, so can you answer it for me? I am a little busy right now.”
“Yes mom!” I tell her as I use this opportunity to escape from Apollo.
I know he’s watching me leave, and I don’t waste the chance to sway my hips seductively. I was just getting started in messing with Apollo. This was payback for everything. Besides, I did not want to give up on us unless there was a very good reason from my mate.
My mother wasn’t kidding when she said whoever was at the door was quite impatient. This was probably the fifth time they’d rung the bell as I tried to get to the front door.
“Coming!” I shout, hoping whoever it is can hear me. Why were they so impatient? Couldn’t they tell that someone was trying to get to the door?
When I swing the door open, I come face to face with a young woman, possibly around my age. We both keep staring at each other for a few uncomfortable seconds. Her beauty immediately blows me away.
Who was she?
And what was she doing here?
