Chapter 5
Hearing the phone call, Ronan froze for a rare moment.
He seemed unable to process what the council member was saying, taking a long time to snap back to reality.
“Suicide?”
“What kind of sick joke is this? My mate would never jump in the river! This has to be a scam call.”
“What settlement papers? I wrote one, sure, but there’s no way my Luna would have it!”
The council member on the other end hadn’t expected this response.
But he repeated the case details anyway.
“We received a call around nine PM about someone jumping into the river. Security footage shows a young she–wolf in her twenties wearing a white shirt and jeans. We found a suicide note and her shoes at the jump site. After three hours of searching, we recovered your mate’s body downstream…”
Ronan slammed on the brakes, pulling over to the side of the road.
“Impossible. I just celebrated the full moon with my Luna today. I told her to wait for me at home. How could she just randomly kill herself?”
The council member’s voice was cold: “Come take a look and you’ll know for sure.”
Hearing this, Mira in the passenger seat flashed a look of satisfaction.
Then quickly switched to a worried expression.
“Ronan, what’s wrong? Did something happen to my sister? You should go to the pack council. I can catch a ride home by myself.”
Ronan’s face turned ugly. He didn’t insist on taking her home as Mira had expected.
Instead, he opened the car door, signaling for her to get out quickly.
“Sorry, Mira. Something happened to your sister. I need to get to the council offices. You’ll have to get home on your
own.”
Though startled, Mira nodded weakly and put on a pitiful expression.
“Okay, Ronan. Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.”
“But… sis chose to jump on New Year’s Eve, on my birthday. Is she trying to get revenge on me for causing her mother’s death?”
“I really just wanted us to have a reunion dinner and resolve things between us sisters. I never thought she’d be so

jealous that she’d actually… Ronan, please don’t be angry with me.”
Ronan sat in the car without saying a word.
After a long while, he just nodded: “I have to go.”
This was the first time he’d ever wanted to get away from Mira quickly.
Driving to the council offices, his heart was filled with panic and unease. He’d originally thought I was dispensable to him, but he never expected losing me would hurt this much.
The council member handed him the suicide note and settlement papers. The moment he saw the settlement, his
heart trembled.
And seeing the suicide note made his face go deathly pale, completely lost.
After a long time, Ronan seemed to make some kind of decision and carefully read through the note.
Word by word, line by line.
[My Alpha, this is the last time I’ll call you that. By the time you read this note, I’ll probably have disappeared from your world completely.
Ronan, I’m grateful that when I was at my lowest and most pathetic, you saved me with your care and attention.
I thought you were my salvation. I wanted to be with you properly, have your pup, live a normal pack life.
But the truth is so ironic. You never loved me at all. You only claimed me to keep me from bothering Mira, and you don’t even think I deserve to carry your heir.
I was angry, but I only wanted to sever our bond. The final straw was when you told Mira where my mother’s grave
was.
She scattered my mother’s ashes in the sewer. She humiliated me, and you didn’t say a word in my defense.
I guess my life has been pretty pathetic.
The happiness I spent my whole life seeking and took pride in was just a dream, a joke.
I saw your settlement papers. Well written. A perfect mockery of my mating.
Goodbye forever.

So I had known all along that this bond was just an elaborate lié.
The moment he finished reading the note, his face went deathly pale.
Those final words “Goodbye forever” pierced straight through him like silver bullets.

So blinding, so raw that tears spilled out in panic.
He swayed weakly and collapsed to the ground, pleading with the council member: “Where is my Luna’s body?”
The council member led him to the morgue. The body was already decomposed and disfigured, but the clothes were identical to what I’d been wearing.
Ronan couldn’t control himself and vomited, his face ashen.
Memories of our past flooded back as he stared at that lifeless, swollen face. His vision went black and he collapsed.
The council members rushed him to the pack healer.
The moment Ronan woke up, he seemed to awaken from a nightmare, stumbling frantically toward my mother’s
burial site.
The once carefully maintained memorial had been deliberately destroyed.
The urn was smashed to pieces and carelessly scattered by the roadside, the ashes nowhere to be found…
Only now did he realize with horrifying clarity that every grievance I’d voiced was true.
But he had never believed me.
He’d thought I was just jealous of Mira, making up pathetic lies.
He stayed there, tears streaming down his face as he cleaned up the destroyed memorial, muttering over and over.
“I’m sorry… I’m so sorry…”
In the middle of his repentance, his phone suddenly, rang.
“Alpha Cross, we had hidden cameras at the restaurant on New Year’s Eve and caught something on film. You need to see this for yourself…”
