Chapter 91
-LANA-
As soon as I open my eyes, I roll over in bed and glance at the clock. It’s midnight. I’m surprised I managed to fall asleep earlier, given how heartbroken I feel about Apollo giving Jada a gorgeous ring–one that his mother wouldn’t stop flaunting in front of me. I can’t help but think she asked for my opinion on the ring just to rub it in my face that Apollo is really going through with this wedding.

She must know about us. Her behavior has been too obvious for it to be anything else. It’s clear as day that she wants to keep me away from her son. The only reason I can think of is that she knows about our relationship. I’ve never been very good at hiding my feelings for Apollo, and maybe that’s how she figured it out.
I groan inwardly. If his mother really is aware of the truth and still acts this way, then it’s likely she would never accept me, even if Apollo stood up for us. Perhaps he already understands this about his mother and prefers to avoid the confrontation, knowing it won’t change anything.
Why am I even dwelling on this? I’ve just woken up, and already my mind is spinning with fears.
My eyes feel heavy from all the crying I did earlier. I head to the bathroom and splash some water on my face. Just as I’m about to pick up a soap, something catches my eye–it’s glinting on my finger.
I stand frozen for a moment, staring at the shiny object. Is that a diamond ring? My hands tremble as I bring my fingers closer to inspect.
It is! Without a doubt, it’s a diamond ring–an expensive one at that, not some cheap imitation. I rush back into my room, searching for any letters or notes that could explain how this ended up on my finger.
After rummaging through my room, I come to the realization that I’ve uncovered every nook and cranny, and there’s nothing left to discover. The only person who might have given me a ring is quite clear now.
My mate. It has to be him. Who else would put a ring on my finger while I slept? I dwelled on that thought for a few seconds.
Could it actually be Apollo? This ring is a hundred times more stunning than the one Jada got.
What is he trying to say? Why would he give me a ring like this, knowing we might never be together?
I didn’t know how to feel about it; my heart felt heavy. On one hand, I was charmed that Apollo had picked out a ring for me while he was out with his mother and Jada. On the other hand, I couldn’t grasp the point of giving it to me if he didn’t plan on spending the rest of his life by my side.
Apollo’s behavior baffled me. One moment, it seemed like he wanted us to be together, and the next, he was looking for any excuse to keep us apart.
I ran my finger over the diamond, feeling my insides melt. Why are you doing this to my heart, Apollo?
1 heard a vehicle pull up and went over to the window. The whole family had just returned from dinner without me. I knew I couldn’t handle another night with Apollo’s mother; I chose to stay back for my own peace of mind. But the thought of my mate having dinner with Jada made me so miserable that I’d fallen asleep in tears earlier.
As Jada stepped out of Apollo’s car, she looked perfect as always. Her hair and makeup were flawless, and she wore a stunning pink dress that complemented her complexion beautifully. Everyone looked happy, clearly having had a great time. I spotted my sister, and she already knew I was watching them. I could tell she was probably the only one who had a miserable time with the family.
Then I saw him–Apollo was the last to get out. I held my breath as he looked up at my window, almost as if he could sense my gaze. I tried to regain my composure, but was difficult, especially with the racing of my heart.
I needed to talk to him, I couldn’t hold back any longer. He had to know how I felt. Time was running out, and I didn’t want to have any regrets about us. The fact that Apollo had gone out of his way to get me this ring spoke volumes; he had strong feelings for me as well, and I didn’t need to hear the words
1o understand that now.
I could see the yearning in his eyes as he continued to watch me from the driveway. However, I soon felt another gaze upon me, a dark, penetrating stare that was impossible to overlook

Chapter 91
I inhaled sharply when I caught sight of both his mother and Jada shooting daggers in my direction, their faces twisted in hatred. It was clear they knew Apollo was looking at me; after all, he wasn’t even trying to hide it from them.
Any doubts I had about them knowing about us vanished in that moment. They both clearly understood my feelings for Apollo. Their behavior clicked into place as I accepted this truth. I couldn’t deny it any longer.
Apollo’s mother approached him and placed a hand on his shoulder. I couldn’t hear what she whispered, but his demeanor shifted instantly. His hand clenched into a fist as he walked back into the house with them.
I pressed a hand to my chest, feeling overwhelmed by everything happening all at once. I didn’t know how to deal with this emotional whirlwind, but one thing was clear: I didn’t want to give up on Apollo and me. I wasn’t ready to let go unless I absolutely had to.
His mother was clearly fighting to get her way with him. So, why couldn’t I fight for him too? He was my mate, and we were right for each other, regardless of what his mother or anyone else thought.
The ring on my finger was proof enough of that. Now, I just had to figure out how to convince my mate to put a stop to this wedding and tell his mother the truth. I wasn’t sure if he would listen, but it was worth a shot. I had to do it for us. I had to.
