Chapter 11 Good Ally
I smirked, my voice dripping with sarcasm. “If that’s not what you meant, then what exactly did you mean? You can’t bear to let go of the money Cadell gives you, yet you also want to be Edmund’s wife. Lorna Hill, what makes you think the world revolves around you?”
Lorna’s face turned ashen, her features tightening in anger. She gritted her teeth, knowing deep down that this wasn’t the time
to mess with me.
She turned to Cadell, her voice soft and pleading. “Cadell, I never meant to betray you. This is all my fault… I don’t want you to
suffer because of me.”
Her words were so smooth that I almost laughed. Instead, I smiled, colder than before. “If you didn’t want him to suffer, maybe you shouldn’t have worn a wedding dress at my wedding. Now that everything’s out in the open, you’re trying to backtrack. Isn’t it because Edmund’s family is wealthy?”
Lorna’s mask was shattered. Her eyes filled with rage as she clenched her teeth, looking like she wanted to tear me apart. “Enough! Albert couldn’t take it anymore. He shot a furious glare at Lorna and Cadell and then turned to Edmund, his voice low but resolute. “Tagree to your terms.
Lorna’s eyes widened in disbelief as she processed his words.
She forgot to maintain her composure in front of Cadell and screamed, “No!”
Albert’s gaze turned cold as he fixed her with a chilling stare. “Since when did you get a say in my decisions?”
Realization dawned on her face, and she turned pale, her expression a mixture of fear and desperation. She looked at Cadell, silently pleading with her eyes.
Cadell opened his mouth to respond, but Edmund cut him off before he could say a word. “That villa you’ve stayed in, I don’t want it anymore. Who knows if you’ve brought other men there while you were staying? I can’t stand the thought of it.”
Lorna’s face drained of color. Cadell couldn’t help but cast a suspicious glance at her.
It was clear now. How could a woman who cheated with a married man be anything but trash?
Edmund’s words hit their mark perfectly, leaving a seed of doubt in Cadell’s mind.
From now on, these two would be living in constant suspicion and mistrust.
I couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction as Edmund continued, “The villa’s worth around eighty million. Add in the jewelry and the five million in cash, and we’re looking at a total of about a hundred million.”
The amount was staggering. Lorna turned pale, panic filling her eyes.
I’d done my research on her–her family wasn’t wealthy, and there was no way she could come up with that kind of money.
Aside from the villa, she had already spent everything else.
Even if she sold the villa for eighty million, she’d still be short twenty million.
Where was she going to get the money?
No wonder she was so terrified of Edmund calling off the engagement
It was almost laughable. Was I supposed to feel sympathy for her?
She wasn’t even married yet, but she was already blowing through her fiancé’s money like it was nothing. Had she not cpnsidered the future?
Lorna, aware she couldn’t possibly pay that amount, turned to Cadell for help. Her voice trembled as she spoke, “Cadell, please, I’ve spent all my money on my mother’s medical bills. I can’t possibly come up with that much…”
She sobbed, looking fragile, like a flower on the verge of wilting.
Cadell, clearly moved by her tears, opened his mouth to speak, “Don’t worry, Loma. I’ll pay the money for you.”
So they really were in love.
His declaration was so bold, it made Albert’s face darken.
A hundred million was no small sum, and to just give it away to a woman like Lorna–Albert was furious.
But with the media watching, he couldn’t afford to show any weakness.
If this leaked, it would be a scandal.
Albert shot a venomous look at Cadell, but Cadell, caught up in his own sense of heroism, didn’t notice.
I nearly burst out laughing at the sight.
Lorna clung to Cadell, playing the helpless damsel. She looked up at him with a sweet voice. “Cadell, I knew you were the one who truly cared for me. I love you.”
Her words only fueled Cadell’s ego further. His smile grew even more smug.
I couldn’t resist. “You sure do have a lot of love to give, don’t you?”
Cadell’s smile faltered, his eyes narrowing as he glared at me.
Clearly, he was planning to deal with me later, but for now, he bit out. “Cavendish, I’ll get the money to you. Now get lost! And just so you know, don’t you dare release that video. If you do=”
Edmund chuckled. “You’ve got it all wrong. You should be begging me not to release it. However, I’m not nearly as kind as you
think I am.”
He waved the camera in his hand, his smirk taunting. “I wonder how all those people who bought True Love Rings will feel when they see how disgusting you really are. Will they demand refunds?”
Color drained from both Albert and Cadell’s faces.
Cadell had just tried to make threats, but now he was the one being played. His expression was beyond words–humiliated didn’t even begin to describe it.
Albert took a deep breath and snapped at Cadell, “Apologize to Mr. Cavendish!”
Cadell was clearly reluctant, but the threat of Edmund releasing the video was too much.
With a scowl, he reluctantly said, “Sorry, Mr. Cavendish. What do you want to stop the video from going public?”
Edmund’s smile remained unchanged. “No way. If you don’t want to be exposed, maybe you should stop doing shady things.”
With that, he turned to leave. “Oh, and since the sum is so large, you have a week to pay up. If I don’t see the money in my account by then, the unedited video will go online.”
He paused, turning back to glance at us. “And one more thing–don’t even think about targeting Ms. Wenmir. I have no respect for men who take out their frustrations on women.”
I raised an eyebrow in surprise. Edmund remembered to protect me? That was unexpected. He truly was a good ally.
Cadell’s eyes immediately locked onto me, his expression full of suspicion. Once Edmund had left, he confronted me, his voice. cold. “You’ve been in on this with Edmund all along, haven’t you?”
