Chapter 16 Loma’s Taunt
I called the cleaning service to have them clean up the mess outside my door.
But honestly, I couldn’t stay in that house anymore. Now that my location had been exposed, there was no telling when someone else might show up to cause more trouble.
I couldn’t keep myself in such an unsafe place.
So, I locked it up and headed to another house of mine.
The house was under my name, and Cadell had no idea about its existence. I had planned to tell him about it after the wedding. but honestly, thank goodness I hadn’t, or I probably wouldn’t have a roof over my head right now.
As soon as I closed the door, my phone rang.
I glanced at my screen, and it was Loma calling
She seemed pretty pleased with herself, and her voice oozed with arrogance. “Aurora, how does it feel to be the one getting trashed? Did you ever think this day would come when you were doing all this to me and Cadell?”
I let out a sarcastic laugh. Loma continued, totally in her element, “By the way, I have to thank you. If you hadn’t been so stupid and made everything so public, I wouldn’t have walked into this easy life without any effort. So, Aurora, while I’m living it up as a lady of the manor, are you going to be begging for scraps in the street?
Her words were infuriating, but I couldn’t help but laugh at her naivety. “You’re really that sure, huh?”
She answered without missing a beat, her voice dripping with venom “Of course. Aurora, stop trying to fight it–it’s pointless. Even if you have evidence, so what? You really think the Hartman family will let you release it? Not a chance. You’ll be nothing but a rat in a gutter. You can only look up at me with jealousy
I chuckled and retorted, “Is that so? Well, I hope you enjoy your brief moment as a rich wife. You won’t get to keep it for long.”
Without giving her a chance to respond, I hung up on her.
She tried calling back, but I just blocked her number without hesitation.
Once that was done, I dialed Cyril’s number.
It rang three times before he picked up
His familiar voice came through. “You watched the video?”
“Yeah, I did,” I replied. “Want to talk?”
There was no pause on his end. “Give me the address. Il come get you.”
I told him where I was, hung up, and waited for him to arrive.
As I waited, I took a moment to go over everything in my mind.
The Hartman family was rushing to shut me down all because they wanted to silence me before I could release the full details of Lorna and Cadell’s affair.
After all, the video I had wasn’t blurred, and all the details were clearly shown.
Cadell was the future heir of the Hartman family–they couldn’t let him be embarrassed.
So, the only way to make sure no one would believe me was to paint me as this vindictive woman. That way, no one would take
anything I said seriously.
Even now, if I posted the video, people would just think I was doing it out of jealousy, trying to get back at them. I’d be labeled as a bitter ex, trying to ruin their lives with a fake video.
It would be a perfect trap. Even with the evidence in my hands, no one would believe me.
Sad for them, they’d never know just how much evidence I actually had.
The moment I found out about Cadell’s affair, just a day before the wedding. I made sure to gather all the videos of him and
Lorna sneaking around
That gross lie he told about being in love with Lorna but still loyal to me? I was going to expose it for what it really was.
I had just finished organizing the evidence when Cyril arrived downstairs.
I changed into a different outfit and threw on a mask before heading out.
After the video Cadell posted yesterday, my face was pretty well known to the public now. If I went out without any protection, was worried some fanatical people might come looking for trouble.
Better safe than sorry.
When I got downstairs, Cyril was standing there, looking lost in thought with his head down
I could see his profile, and it was almost too perfect to be real.
Every line of his face seemed like it had been carefully carved by some divine artist. Just standing there, he looked like a piece
of art, and even from a distance, he was mesmerizing.
As I got closer, he finally looked up at me.
His words were full of concern. “Are you okay?”
I nodded and replied, “I’m good.”
I had been a little freaked out when that man was smashing my door, but after a few hours, I’d calmed down.
I’d always been strong–minded. Being insulted didn’t really shake me that much.
Cyril, however, didn’t seem to buy it. His brow furrowed slightly, and then he said, “I’ve already got people handling it. It shouldn’t
take long before it all blows over
I paused for a second, feeling a twinge of confusion deep inside.
I couldn’t figure out why he was helping me like this.
His position in the Hartman family was already precarious, and if anyone found out what he was doing, it would only bring him
more trouble.
Helping me in this situation wasn’t the smartest move unless he had figured out that I was going to break things off with Cadell
and team up with him.
After all, I’d been in love with Cadell for seven years, and I knew everything that had happened to him.
If Cyril was thinking like that, then it made sense.
With that thought, I came straight to the point. “You don’t need to do this. Even if you don’t help me, I’ll still work with you.
I thought that after I said that, Cyril would let out a sigh of relief.
But instead, his eyebrows furrowed even tighter, and he asked, “You think I’m helping you just to get you to work with me?”
“Aren’t you?” I raised my eyebrows in return. I wasn’t that close to Cyril, and the only reason I could think of for him doing so much for me was because he wanted something in return, like a partnership. Nothing else made sense.
I saw a brief flash of sadness in his eyes, and then his voice dropped to a hoarse whisper. “Aurora, Tm doing this because I want to help you. Nothing more.”
I clenched my fist slightly, still not convinced by his words.
Cyril took a deep sigh and said, “Forget it, we can talk about this later. Let’s get in the car. I’ll take you somewhere to eat.”
I didn’t refuse. I climbed into the passenger seat, and he glanced over at me, as though he had a lot on his mind but wasn’t sure how to say it.
