Chapter 29 You’ve Lost a Lot of Weight
After agreeing to Cyril, I chatted with him for a few more minutes before hanging up.
I had to admit–I was not a good person; in fact, I tended to be quite calculating at times.
So, I removed Lorna from my blacklist and sent her a message: Do you like the big gift I gave you?
As expected, Lorna was furious. She kept calling me, but I didn’t want to answer, so I simply added her back to my blacklist.
After doing all this, I felt much better.
Seeing my enemy angry really gave me a sense of satisfaction.
I opened my computer and went over all the clues I had gathered so far, then laid out the plan. After completing these tasks, I finally left for the hospital to visit my mother.
My mother’s name was Gwendolyn Bellingar.
She had been seriously ill since I first met Cadell, relying on expensive medical treatment every day.
Fortunately, I was not lacking in money, so I had been able to afford her medical bills all these years.
Her condition was very complicated, mainly heart disease and neurological problems. She was only awake for two or three hours each day, spending the rest of the time asleep.
She couldn’t even feed herself, relying on nutrition injections to stay alive.
I knew this kind of life was painful, but I didn’t want to give up on her, and my mother didn’t want to die either.
For all these years, she had been waiting waiting for Sylvia’s news, waiting for Sylvia to return.
–
She wouldn’t close her eyes until she saw Sylvia.
At first, I thought my mother’s condition was extremely severe, so I sought out the best doctors for diagnosis. However, every doctor’s conclusion was about the same.
The heart problem could be fixed with a heart transplant, but the most deadly part was her neurological system. If left untreated, the disorder in her nervous system would lead to organ failure and, ultimately,
death.
For the past three years, all the doctors had said the same thing.
Aside from using medication to slow the decline of her organs, there was nothing else I could do.
It was at this time that I learned some hidden things about the Hartman family, discovering that they had a secret business network and that Sylvia’s disappearance might be connected to them…
At that point, I came up with a bold theory: perhaps my mother’s neurological problems were linked to all of
this.
If I could uncover the forces behind the Hartman family, maybe I could save my mother.
I initially thought that once I married Cadell, they would definitely tell me more, but I never expected Cadell to
do such a thing at the wedding.
He had even secretly planned to send me to another man’s bed.

It was then that I realized that, perhaps from the very beginning, Cadell had never loved me. I was just a tool he could use to achieve his goals.
Since he had no feelings for me, even if I married him, he would never tell me his secrets.
So, I completely cut ties with him and shifted my focus to Cyril.
Neither feelings nor love can be relied upon. The most solid kind of relationship in the world is based on mutual benefits.
So, I decided to cooperate with Cyril. I believed I wouldn’t be disappointed.
I drove to the hospital, and by the time I arrived, my mother was awake. Her weak gaze landed on me, and her
first words carried a hint of guilt. “Aurora, you’ve lost a lot of weight.”
My eyelashes fluttered slightly, and the softest part of my heart was gently touched by her.
I sat by her bedside. She took my hand, her voice soft but firm. “I heard about you and Cadell. My dear daughter, you’ve suffered so much for me.”
I smiled at her. “Mom, I don’t find it hard at all. He treated me poorly, so I retaliated. Now it’s their turn to
suffer.”
She gently rubbed my hair, worry filling her eyes. “Have you heard anything about Sylvia?”
“Soon,” I said quietly, “I’ll definitely find her.”
My mother had always trusted me. After hearing this, she didn’t ask any further questions but started chatting softly with me. Being by her side, I felt like all my troubles were melting away.
I leaned against her frail shoulder, and my mood suddenly became much calmer.
Her body was weak and couldn’t sustain much longer. After an hour of chatting with me, she became sleepy.
I gently coaxed her to sleep and then drove back home.
When I got out of the car, I was especially careful, wearing a hat to cover my face, to avoid being spotted by
Cadell or Lorna.
Only when I closed the door behind me did I breathe a sigh of relief.
I went to bed early because I knew that in two days, I would face a tough battle.
The next morning, Cyril eagerly arranged a time for us to meet and sent me the location.
I packed my things, put on a perfect makeup, and then drove to the agreed location.
Cyril had chosen a private estate this time, a place both beautiful and quiet. Aside from Cyril and me, there
were almost no other people around.
I raised an eyebrow. This place wasn’t cheap. Cyril really was generous. The cost of the estate was extremely high–just a normal meal here could cost millions.
It seemed Cyril’s living conditions were better than I had imagined.
I sat across from Cyril. He smiled at me, not hiding his compliment. “Aurora, you look really beautiful today.”
I raised an eyebrow, not responding.
Cyril placed a delicate menu in front of me. “I’ve ordered a few dishes. Take a look and see if there’s anything

else you’d like.”

I didn’t refuse, casually ordering two dishes that weren’t too expensive before handing the menu back to him.
Cyril smiled and suddenly said, “Aurora, last night, Charles called me.”
My movements instantly froze, and I jerked my head up to look at him.
Why would Charles contact Cyril at this point?
