Chapter 39 How Could You Do This?
After finishing my conversation with him, I continued my investigation on Philip.
Since I had decided to focus on Philip, I had to know him thoroughly.
I spent an entire day reviewing the materials and finally found some useful Information.
For the past three years, Philip had been frequently changing girlfriends, with each relationship lasting less than a month. The women he dated always spoke very fondly of him afterward.
Some of these women even went to extreme lengths just to see him once.
On the surface, this might seem to suggest that Philip was very charming, but after I looked deeper into the situation of these women, I found that once they took extreme actions, causing disappointment among their friends and family, they would simply disappear.
No, maybe “disappear” wasn’t the right word.
Because some of them would reappear after a year, and those around them would think they had just gone for a short break, never giving it much thought.
If I hadn’t conducted this investigation, I might not have paid much attention to this matter.
I took a deep breath and called my assistant, instructing him to focus on investigating the situations of
these women.
If everything went well, these women might hold the answers I needed.
After I completed this task, a heavy feeling settled in my chest, and I began to fear what might be the truth. If
my suspicions were correct…
Had my sister Sylvia already suffered so much, or even… Passed away?
This thought sparked an immediate surge of anger in my chest, as if something was churning inside me, making my breathing rapid and my head dizzy./
I bit my lower lip, forcing myself to calm down until I tasted the blood in my mouth.
No, Sylvia was always so sweet and cute, always smiling and snuggling beside me, asking me to tell her
stories.
How could such a sweet girl end up with such a tragic fate?
She must be fine. I kept repeating this to myself, as if trying to comfort myself.
But I knew, deep inside, my heart was sinking further, filled with fear and worry.
A phone call snapped me out of my thoughts. I looked down and saw that it was Cyril calling.
I forced myself to suppress my unease and answered the call, “What’s the matter?”
I didn’t even realize my voice was trembling.
There was a brief silence on the other end of the line before Cyril asked in a serious tone, “Aurora, what’s
going on? What happened?”
I shook my head, then remembered he couldn’t see me, so I added, “It’s nothing.”

Cyril clearly didn’t believe me. Indeed, I didn’t seem well, and my face seemed a bit dazed.
Then I heard him say, “Aurora, didn’t you want to know what I would like as a thank–you gift? I’ve thought about it now. Can I claim it?”
I froze for a moment, blinking slowly. “What do you want?”
He pretended to be casual and said, “I’m feeling really lonely right now. I need you to join me for a meal, maybe even take a walk afterwards. Is that too much to ask for a thank you?”
I hesitated for a moment, a bitter feeling rising in my heart. It felt as though I were being wrapped in warmth. I wasn’t stupid; I understood Cyril’s intentions.
He had heard the worry in my voice and was concerned about me. Since I wouldn’t tell him what was troubling me, he had come up with this way to see me.
I wasn’t heartless, and I couldn’t refuse his offer.
I really did need to vent, or I might end up collapsing from holding everything in.
So I agreed, “Alright.”
On the other end, Cyril seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, then laughed and said, “I’ll pick you up. Get dressed, and I’ll be there soon.”
“Okay.”
After saying that, I hung up the phone.
I walked to my wardrobe, picked out a dress, and quickly arranged my hair.
So much had happened recently, and I had lost weight. My waistline looked even more slender.
The dress hugged my body, perfectly outlining my figure. For some reason, it looked a bit sexy.
But I wasn’t in the mood to admire myself. Just as I finished putting on my shoes, Cyril’s call came through again. “Aurora, I’m here.”
I stepped outside and immediately spotted Cyril.
He hadn’t dressed up on purpose and seemed to have rushed here. His hair was slightly messy. When his anxious gaze landed on me, he visibly relaxed.
He had been worrying about me all along.
I walked over to him. His messy hair didn’t make him look disheveled but instead gave him a certain wild
charm.
As his anxiety faded, a look of admiration flashed in his eyes as he said, “Since leaving Cadell, you seem to have become even more dazzling.”
I forced a smile, but before I could speak, he gently grabbed my chin.
I froze for a moment, then felt a slight sting and warmth on my lips.
It was his fingers gently brushing against my wound.
The gesture was somewhat intimate. Just as I was about to turn my head to avoid it, I heard an angry shout. “Aurora! What do you think you’re doing?!”

I turned around and, of course, the misfortune continued.
I had avoided Cadell for so long, only to be caught by him at this moment!
Cadell’s face was dark with anger as he pointed at Cyril’s hand on my lips. “Our wedding just ended. How could you do this with my uncle?”
I couldn’t help but laugh at his words and looked at him with a hint of sarcasm. His gaze lingered on the bite mark on my lips, his eyes bloodshot and reddened as he questioned me, “Have you no shame? Are you deliberately trying to seduce my uncle?”
I looked at him coldly and sneered, “Cadell, don’t make it sound like we have some intimate relationship. That wasn’t our wedding–it was a scene of infidelity! Besides, our relationship is over. Who I’m with now is none of your business!”
With that, I glanced at Cyril and then smiled brightly at him.
I took a few steps forward and leaned into Cyril’s arms, saying to Cadell, “Moreover, your uncle is far better than you, at least ten times better in bed.”
Cadell’s face turned pale in an instant, and he trembled with rage!
