Chapter 38 Possessiveness
It took me quite a while to snap back to reality, and I shot him a glare, irritated. “Is that a problem?”
He chuckled softly, “No, of course not.”
Seeing the evident smile on his face only made my cheeks burn even hotter.
He was right. I was shy.
I cleared my throat, trying to change the subject. “What did you want to talk to me about?”
At the mention of this, Cyril’s smile slowly faded, replaced by a very serious expression. “You told Charles today that you want to meet Philip?”
A thought flashed in my mind. How did he know about something that had just happened?
It seemed Cyril was even more capable than I had imagined. He must have already planted his own spies
around Charles.
And revealing this secret to me without hesitation was, in a way, a sign of trust.
I didn’t hide and nodded slightly. “Yes, my mother is seriously ill. I need to meet him.”
Cyril fell silent for a moment. “Take me with you, Aurora. I can’t let you go alone. I’ll worry about you.”
I looked at him in surprise. “Are you sure you want to get involved with me now? Charles doesn’t know I’ve sold the shares to you. In this situation, you have a better chance. But if you go with me, he’ll definitely get
suspicious.”
When Cyril heard this, the corners of his lips lifted into a pleased smile.
I couldn’t understand what he was thinking, but I could clearly see his gaze softening more and more towards
- me.
This softness made me feel uncomfortable, even unsure of how to react.
A moment later, he chuckled softly. “Aurora, I know. But… You don’t know Philip well, nor do you know what
his business is about. As a single woman, you are exactly the type of prey he likes.”
A chill ran through me, and in that instant, I was certain that Philip was somehow connected to the women
secretly confined by the Hartman family!
I felt like I was getting closer to the truth.
I looked up at Cyril. “I’m going, no matter what.”
“I know.” Cyril gazed at me gently but firmly. “That’s why from the start, I never planned to stop you. Aurora, take me with you. I’m not afraid of Charles finding out. The shares are already in my hands. If I can’t take down the Hartman family now, then I’m incompetent.”
His words were simple and sincere, and they struck right at my heart.
I had to admit, he was charming. At least for now, my feelings for him were definitely growing.
I couldn’t help but smile faintly. “How do you want me to thank you?”
Cyril’s gaze immediately fixed on my lips. I could feel the heat in his eyes, as though his stare had a

temperature that easily set me on fire.
I lowered my head, feeling uncertain. “What are you looking at?”
Cyril smiled lightly, his lips curving up slightly. “Nothing. I can’t think of a gift to ask for right now. Can I keep it? We’ll exchange it in the end.”
I had no objections. “Alright.”
I couldn’t tell if it was my imagination, or if his gaze was truly that intense, but at that moment, I seemed to
see a strong sense of possessiveness in his eyes.
Maybe I was just overthinking it?
I didn’t pay much attention to it. After all, I hadn’t known Cyril for long. There was no way he could be that
close to me.
After our discussion, Cyril drove me home.
Ronald had already taken my car, and when I arrived home, he was waiting by the roadside, handing me the
keys.
I took the car keys and glanced at Cyril. “I’ll head in now.”
He nodded. “Alright, I’ll wait for your notice.”
I gave a short reply, then turned to leave.
Cyril’s gaze seemed to linger on my back until I was blocked from his view by the building.
Looking down from upstairs, I saw Cyril just getting into his car and leaving. He seemed to be watching me
the whole time.
Was he concerned about my safety?
That thought crossed my mind, and for a moment, I felt a little dazed.
‘Forget it.‘ I pushed the thought aside, opened my laptop, and sent out the clarification statement.
I didn’t say much–just simply told them that Lorna had actively seduced Cadell, and Cadell had passively
accepted. I had misunderstood.
Then I briefly mentioned that Cadell’s purchase of the design for the True Love Ring was a legitimate
business transaction.
I had done the necessary clarifications, but I didn’t go into too much detail. As for how the netizens saw it…
That was not my concern.
Cadell’s reputation was doomed because of his greed. And his fate was set when he insisted on claiming
that the True Love Ring was his own design.
Because of his marketing, True Love Ring gained immense popularity among women and was even
considered a symbol of true love, Many people chose to wear it when getting engaged or married.
However, now, the True Love Ring was nothing more than a huge scam. Even though I had clarified things, his reputation was beyond saving.
The Cadell project was destined to fail.

But that had nothing to do with me.
I sent the clarification message to Charles and added, “I’ve done my part. I hope you haven’t forgotten to arrange for me to meet Philip.”
Charles quickly replied, “Don’t worry, I’ve talked to Mr. Hodge, and the meeting is set for next Tuesday. How does that sound?”
I had no objections. Charles added, “Aurora, let me choose the meeting location. Mr. Hodge is a bit picky, and I don’t want you to choose a place he won’t like and end up irritating him.”
I raised an eyebrow. Charles really couldn’t let go. Even now, he was trying to win me over with these small
gestures.
Since he wanted to take care of it, I let him. After all, I wasn’t the one worrying about it.
I replied, somewhat dismissively. “Thank you.”
Charles seemed quite pleased. “Aurora, even though you had some issues with Cadell, you will always be my favorite in your generation.”
I couldn’t help but curl my lips in sarcasm. Charles was as hypocritical as ever.
I wondered if he’d still say that once he found out I had sold the shares to Cyril.
