Chapter 69 Cadell Begged
Chapter 69 Cadell Begged Me to Come
Now that my plan had begun, my mother could no longer stay at the hospital; it was far too exposed and
unsafe.
I adjusted my tone and said softly to her, “Mom, you can’t stay here any longer. This place is too easily discovered. Tonight, Il arrange for someone to secretly take you away. I may not be able to visit you often in the coming days, but I’ll stay in touch every day to let you know I’m safe. Please don’t worry about me.”
My mother gently stroked my hair, her eyes filled with tenderness. “I understand, my dear. I’m so proud of how much you’ve grown, but my heart aches for you too. Don’t wear yourself out.”
I held back tears and nodded. Then I informed Darian, who safely moved my mother to Prosperity Group.
The entire process was carried out discreetly, no one noticed a thing.
In the most secure area of Prosperity Group, I had already prepared a special room equipped with advanced medical facilities and various specialists–a perfect place for my mother to stay.
If it weren’t to keep Cadell from becoming suspicious, I wouldn’t have wanted her to move to an outside facility.
After making all the arrangements, I went home to rest.
The next morning. I officially started working for the Hartman family.
Cadell had gone out of his way to dress up, personally welcoming me.
I glanced at him and noticed the effort he had put in. He was wearing the exact same outfit from our first
date.
Did he really think I’d be touched by this, that it would reignite my feelings for him?
It was laughable.
Still, it provided the perfect opportunity to carry out my plan.
Feigning a hint of sentimentality, I said softly, “You still have that outfit?”
Thinking his efforts had paid off, Cadell’s eyes lit up immediately, and his smile grew even gentler. “Of course. I cherish everything about you.”
I almost felt nauseous. Forcing a faint smile, I didn’t say anything more and headed straight to my desk. Thanks to recent online developments, there were surprisingly fewer criticisms directed at me. Instead, the Hartman family’s reputation continued to plummet.
Not long after I began working, Charles approached me with a sullen expression. He seemed dissatisfied, as though looking for someone to vent his frustrations on.
I was prepared to face him, but before he could say much, Cadell called him away.
I wasn’t sure what they discussed. It seemed Cadell brought up my background as a jewelry designer, which might have influenced Charles’s sudden change in attitude.
When Charles returned, he furrowed his brows and said to me, “Aurora, since you’ve come around, I won’t hold the past against you. But you’re aware of the damage the online situation has done to our family’s

reputation. I hope you’ll help clarify things further.
Hearing this, I couldn’t help but let out a faint, sarcastic laugh. “Charles, I respect you, but don’t push your luck. Do you really think I’m so agreeable that I’d clarify rumors just to satisfy a few internet speculations?”
Charles’s expression darkened immediately. He frowned deeply, glaring at me. “You must understand, you’re working for the Hartman family now! You should follow my orders on everything!”
I sneered. “I could just as easily stop working here. The only reason I’m back is because Cadell begged me to
return. Don’t get it twisted. I can do just fine without the Hartman family.”
I was very direct. While I needed to infiltrate the Hartman family and uncover their secret operations, it didn’t
mean I had to endure their attitude forever.
At this point, it was the Hartman family that needed me more than I needed them.
Without me, their jewelry business would crumble.
So there was nothing for me to fear
Charles was clearly provoked by my words. He glared at me, seething with anger. “Are you really going to go
against me?”
I replied calmly, “You’re the one opposing me. Do you really think those disgusting events can simply be erased if I issue a clarification? Charles, shall I tell you just how much evidence I still have?”
That got his attention. My words worked. At least for the moment, Charles’s expression changed completely.
He gritted his teeth and let his gaze linger on me for a moment before sneering coldly. “Aurora, if you refuse to clarify this, you’ll never set foot in the Hartman household again!”
With that, he turned and left, clearly convinced I would relent.
I couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow Could shamelessness run in the Hartman family’s bloodline?
Did Charles seriously think… that I still wanted to marry Cadell?
What a joke. Did he not find the very idea revolting?
I paid him no further attention and pretended to focus on my work. I certainly wasn’t going to design anything too dazzling, but to earn Cadell’s trust, I couldn’t just stop designing altogether.
So, I pulled out some old, unused designs, made a few tweaks, refined the details, and began sketching
slowly
Cadell frequently came by to curry favor, bringing me flowers or hand–ground coffee.
I accepted everything because I knew,Lorna was always nearby, just outside Cadell’s office.
Everything Cadell did to please me, Lorna would see.
I doubted she could remain calm under those circumstances.
She had to be on edge, worried that Cadell’s affectionate gestures toward me might actually be genuine.
She would be afraid that in the end, she would end up with nothing.
When people were consumed by suspicion, they often made irrational choices.
Lorna was no exception. With a little push from me, she’d abandon Cadell and gravitate toward Edmund, who

seemed more stable.
Sure enough, after a full day of Cadell’s attention, Lorna couldn’t hold back any longer. As I was leaving work that evening, she stopped me in my tracks.
