When Lorna still didn’t respond, Cadell finally lost patience. He grabbed her arm and yanked her up forcefully.
Lorna winced in pain as she was pulled, giving him a frightened look. Then she spoke in a pitiful voice, “Cadell, are you going to hit me?”
Her tone was filled with helplessness, and her voice, still hoarse from earlier, made even me–a woman–feel a pang of sympathy. So how could Cadell, who loved her so deeply, remain unmoved?
I had to admit, Lorna was quite adept at manipulating a man’s emotions.
At the very least, Cadell’s expression softened noticeably.
He clenched his fists, hesitated for a moment, then let out a deep sigh. “Lorna, I just don’t understand. I already told you–once I’m done using Aurora, I’ll marry you. Why did you have to steal my trade secrets? Don’t you realize how important they are to me?”
Seeing his tone soften, Lorna seemed to relax slightly. She looked pitiful as she explained, “I had no choice, Cadell. You know that Edmund has been pressuring me to repay my debts. If I don’t pay, he’ll take me to court. My life would be ruined!”
I raised an eyebrow. Lorna wasn’t mentioning the fact that Edmund wasn’t actually demanding repayment?
That was unexpected
Perhaps Lorna had already started wavering between the two of them at that point and couldn’t bring herself to tell Cadell.
After all, if she kept that fact from him, Cadell might still give her money, allowing her to benefit from both sides. How could she resist that temptation?
Lorna seemed completely immersed in her role now, tears streaming down her face, making her appear strangely beautiful.
Through her sobs, she continued, “Cadell, I didn’t know the files on your computer were so important to you. Someone just asked me to send them a few pictures, promising that if I did, they’d help me settle my debts. I was just trying to avoid going to jail. Why does it feel like I committed some grave crime by doing this?” As she wiped her tears, I couldn’t help but laugh inwardly. Cadell was truly useless. After all that Lorna had done, could he really forgive her?
I didn’t want this drama to end too quickly, so I decided to call Cyril.
He picked up almost immediately. I hadn’t realized I’d placed a video call until the screen lit up. Feeling a bit awkward, I saw him stand, the surroundings suggesting he was in a meeting room.
“Are you in a meeting?” I asked hastily. “If you’re busy, I can call you later.”
“It’s fine,” he said with a warm smile. “We were just about to wrap up.”
I blinked, thinking what a coincidence it was.
As soon as my thoughts settled, Cyril stepped out of the meeting room and found a quiet corner. “What is i

I nodded and softly said, “Can you give Cadell a call?”
Cyril raised an eyebrow. “What do you want me to tell him?”
“Just shake him up a bit,” I replied, feeling slightly guilty. “Remind him of his current standing with Charles. Undermine his confidence a bit more. Maybe ask him if he’s figured out how to deal with the stolen trade
secrets.”
It felt strange letting Cyril see the sinister side of me.
The next moment, I heard him chuckle softly. “You’re very clever.”
There was an affectionate tone in his voice, and my discomfort vanished instantly.
I smiled and asked, “Will you help me?”
His gaze locked onto mine, those eyes so gentle and deep that I couldn’t help but feel something unusual stirring within me
His voice was steady and tender as he said, “Aurora, I’ve told you, I’ll always be your most steadfast believer.”
Though brief, his words struck me like a pebble dropped into a still lake, sending ripples through my heart.
I could feel my heartbeat quicken, my breath growing shallow.
Suddenly, a strange thought crossed my mind. Though I’d sworn off forming emotional connections after the failed relationship with Cadell, right now I found myself thinking that if I had someone by my side, perhaps Cyril wouldn’t be so bad.”
This realization startled me, and I quickly snapped out of it.
When I looked up again, Cyril was still gazing at me intently, Flustered, I averted my eyes.
In a low voice, I said, “If you’re willing, I’d be very grateful.”
Cyril chuckled lightly. “No need for such formality between us–just consider it the antidote I’m offering you.” His last remark had a teasing edge, but it made me recall every detail of that night in the hidden room.
The heat of his body, the warm breath brushing against my skin, the way his sharp teeth grazed my ear as he whispered soft words
Each memory sent a flush to my cheeks. Even just recalling it made my body respond instinctively, leaving me feeling faint.
It was so embarrassing!
Only the second time with Cyril, yet each encounter was so unforgettable.
I bit my lip and glared at him. “This so–called compensation isn’t enough.”
Cyril’s smile deepened, becoming even more captivating. Then, Aurora, what if I offer myself to you? Would that suffice?”
His words were bold and intense, and the sincerity in his eyes made it clear that he meant every word.
Perhaps it was that sincerity that made his emotions so impossible to resist.
At least, I couldn’t resist.
My heart pounded fiercely, as if it might burst out of my chest.
His lips curved into a soft smile, and he asked quietly, “Aurora, is that enough compensation?”
