Chapter 78 A Hollow Rescue
The thought of it brought a sly smile to my face–I had to admit, I could be a bit wicked sometimes.
After Edmund had finished everything, he prepared to leave with Lorna.
Lorna seemed hesitant. She glanced back at Cadell and softly said, “Cadell, don’t blame Edmund. He only stepped in because you treated me like this,”
Cadell’s fury burned even hotter. The woman he once cherished had not only betrayed him without hesitation but also had the audacity to speak to him in such a patronizing tone, adding insult to injury.
To Loma, however, it was entirely different. She thought herself magnanimous, believing she was still being kind by addressing Cadell so calmly after everything that had transpired.
“Cadell, don’t worry. I won’t let Edmund keep you tied up for too long. This is just a small lesson to help you realize your mistakes. In three hours, I’ll send someone to let you go.”
I almost burst out laughing when I heard that. Lorna was a true master manipulator. She knew exactly which words would cut Cadell the deepest
Sure enough, the moment her words landed, Cadell let out a low growl of frustration.
Loma was utterly shameless! She was the one who had stolen the trade secrets. Cadell was just trying to uncover the truth, and yet he ended up in this situation. Now she was blaming him for everything? It was
absurd!
Even I thought it was a bit much.
Unfortunately, Cadell’s mouth was gagged, so he couldn’t say a word. All he could do was glare at Lorna with searing intensity.
But Lorna wasn’t the least bit unsettled. After delivering her lines, she turned to Edmund with a gentle look and said, “Edmund, let’s go.”
Edmund gave a lazy reply and started walking. Lorna quickly followed, and the two of them strolled off
without a care.
The surveillance feed showed no one but Cadell, bound and left alone.
As it happened, I’d just finished my bag of chips. I tossed the empty bag into the trash, then returned to my
seat.
Onscreen, Cadell was now banging his head against the wall, seemingly trying to vent his despair.
After a couple of hits, he stopped–probably because it hurt too much.
Cadell was someone who couldn’t handle the slightest hardship; it would have been strange if he had been willing to t*****e himself.
Lorna had said she’d send someone to free him in three hours.
I needed to reach him first. After all…
What could be mpre unforgettable than a rescue in the midst of despair?
This was too good of an opportunity. I wasn’t about to let Lorna have all the credit.

I set a timer and then, with nothing else to do, started watching a drama.
The surveillance screen was right in front of me, and I occasionally glanced at Cadell’s condition,
As time passed, his suffering became increasingly apparent. He attempted to stand, leaning against the wall. to rub the rope around his wrists,
Before he could succeed, he lost his footing and fell loudly down the stairs.
I was startled, quickly switching cameras to track him, and couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
Cadell’s head had split open, blood trickling down. He was in such pain he wanted to scream, but no sound came out–his agony was stuck in his throat!
It was utterly pathetic.
I had to admit, the scene brought me immense satisfaction. I even opened a bottle of wine to celebrate.
Someone like Cadell had this coming for a long time.
Of course, it wouldn’t last forever–I had other things to attend to.
But it was enough. A little interest collected before the real storm hit wasn’t too much to ask, was it?
Three hours flew by. Between watching a show and enjoying Cadell’s miserable state, I felt perfectly content.
For Cadell, however, that time stretched unbearably long. After falling down the stairs, he dared not move again, fearing to worsen his injuries.
All he could do was curl up in a comer, filthy, trembling uncontrollably.
I glanced at the clock–time was up.
I changed clothes, applied makeup to look haggard, and hurriedly made my way to Cadell’s location.
I jogged to create the impression that I was rushing to help.
When my footsteps reached his ears, I saw his head snap up. The despair in his eyes was replaced by unrestrained joy and hope.
He desperately tried to speak, letting out muffled whimpers.
I couldn’t make out what he was saying, but I feigned concern, rushing to his side and exclaiming in shock, “Cadell, what happened to you?!”
Finally, Cadell’s long–awaited rescue had arrived. Tears glistened in his eyes.
Gently, I removed the fabric gag from his mouth and tossed it aside. Now free to speak, Cadell gritted his
teeth and cursed, That b***h Lorna!”
He was so agitated that the movement pulled at his wound, causing him to wince in pain.
Frowning, I said, “You’re badly hurt, I’m taking you to the hospitall”
“No,” Cadell muttered, unwilling to humiliate himself. After all, he was already a hot topic online. If he showed
up at a hospital covered in injuries, it would undoubtedly cause a scandal.
Cadell’s fragile reputation couldn’t withstand another blow.
But there was no way I would let him have his way.

Sternly, I said, “Your injuries are too serious to Ignore. Don’t be so stubborn!”
Without hesitation, I dialed for an ambulance
