Chapter 79 He Thinks I Truly Care
Cadell’s expression changed instantly. He opened his mouth, as if wanting to say something, but I didn’t give.
him the chance.
Taking out a clean handkerchief, I pretended to be concerned, gently wiping the dirt from his face. I even made my eyes well up a little. “How did you end up like this? Lorna really went too far! The next time I see her, Til make sure she pays!”
Cadell’s gaze softened immediately. The way he looked at me turned gentle, and he said quietly. “Aurora, you’re the one who truly cares about me.”
Inside, I felt nothing but disgust, but outwardly I nodded. “Of course. We were in love for seven years. Even if you made some mistakes, I can’t help but still worry about you.”
Saying these words made my stomach churn, but Cadell seemed to soak them up. After I untied him, he even reached out to hug me
Not wanting any part of that nauseating embrace, I quickly stopped him and found an excuse. “You’re injured. Before the ambulance arrives, you shouldn’t move around too much, or you might make it worse. I don’t want you to suffer any more.”
My words touched Cadell deeply. He looked at me with gratitude. “If only I’d seen Lorna’s true colors earlier, I’d never have wronged you! Aurora, believe me–I’ll never fall for her lies again!”
Suppressing the revulsion building inside me, I forced a smile and busied myself tending to his wounds. If I had to listen to more of his sickening declarations, I might have slapped him on the spot.
Thankfully, the ambulance arrived quickly. Cadell was loaded onto the stretcher, and I followed him to the
hospital.
Sure enough, just as I expected, Cadell was recognized as soon as we got there.
I made an excuse to go pay the fees and stepped aside to watch.
The bystanders wasted no time pulling out their phones, snapping pictures and recording videos to post
online.
This wasn’t the first time Cadell had found himself in such a situation, and once again, it sparked a flurry of heated discussion among netizens. His notoriety was gaining momentum.
I couldn’t have been more satisfied. His frequent appearances in public, becoming a hot topic, ensured that his past deeds wouldn’t be so easily forgotten by the internet.
At the very least, wherever he went, people would stare and whisper.
He couldn’t possibly retaliate against everyone, could he?
If he actually tried, the police would certainly step in.
I was in a good mood. When I returned to Cadell’s side, I saw him clenching his teeth, clearly struggling to contain his anger.
Still, he didn’t suspect me at all. In fact, he looked relieved when he saw me. “Aurora, please get me to a room, I don’t want people staring at me anymore.”

I quickly nodded and helped him to a room for examination.
Cadell was lucky. Despite tumbling down the stairs, his injuries were only minor bruises. He just needed a couple of days of bed rest
I didn’t plan on taking care of him myself, so I called Charles and asked him to arrange a caretaker for Cadell
As soon as I finished the call, Charles arrived in person.
After all, he cared deeply about his grandson. When he saw Cadell’s condition, he clenched his teeth in anger and scolded him harshly. “You let yourself be outsmarted by a woman! Cadell, you’ve really let me down!”
Cadell’s face immediately darkened. Charles, who oversaw the family’s affairs, was well–informed and quickly found out how Cadell had been injured.
Of course, I had a hand in that I intentionally leaked the information to make sure Charles learned how
pathetic Cadell’s behavior had been.
By showcasing Cadell’s ineptitude, Cyril would appear all the more impressive by contrast. This stark comparison would naturally shift Charles’s favor.
After all, who didn’t prefer someone competent? Who would want to support a failure?
Cadell, oblivious to Charles’s well–meaning intentions, felt even more aggrieved by the reprimand. He refused
to show Charles any respect, his sour demeanor only making Charles angrier.
Seeing Cadell’s stubborn attitude, Charles snorted coldly, “Fine. I won’t bother with you anymore. You’re
nothing but a useless fool!”
Cadell’s expression changed, and he couldn’t help but retort, “Do you think I wanted the trade secrets stolen?
How was I supposed to know what kind of person Lorna was? I’m a victim here too! I’m injured so badly, and yet you still scold me, Grandpa–why?”
Hearing his excuses, Charles was so furious he nearly laughed. “If it’s not your fault, then whose is it? You’re the one who trusted a stranger. Such an important document, and you failed to protect it. It was stolen so
easily. I scold you, and you dare to argue?”
Realizing he was in the wrong, Cadell fell silent, letting out a dismissive snort before turning his back on Charles, clearly unwilling to engage any further.
Having been disappointed by Cadell multiple times, Charles had no intention of trying to console him. Seeing Cadell’s obstinance, Charles simply left with a cold expression.
After Charles left, Cadell looked at me, visibly upset. “Aurora, was it really y my fault?”
I had no intention of helping him sort it out. I just replied softly, it wasn’t your fault. It’s all Lorna’s fault. If it
weren’t for her, Grandpa wouldn’t have scolded you.”
Hearing this, Cadell seemed even more upset, even starting to resent Charles.
He began a silent protest, refusing to speak to Charles all day. He even rejected the food sent by the staff Charles had arranged, clearly throwing a tantrum
But this sulking didn’t last long before Cadell couldn’t hold out any longer.
Because… Cyril, having successfully leveraged Prosperity Group’s project, had wormed his way into the Hartman family’s inner circle of power!
