Chapter 83 Heading to the Supply Chain

Cadell keenly noticed the shift in Charles’s mood. He glanced at me reassuringly, then turned back to Charles and said, Grandpa, it’s okay. I know it might be hard for you to accept this right now, but Aurora and I will prove over time that our love is genuine.”

That remark nearly made me recoll in disgust, but I kept my composure and played along with Cadell for the sake of my plan. Yes, Charles,” I said, I’m willing to prove it over time.”

Charles furrowed his brow, clearly unwilling to undermine the progress he had just made with Cadell. So he said nothing more, but his sharp gaze never left my face

I pretended not to notice, continuing to attend to Cadell. Truth be told, I had never cared for him so attentively even during our most intimate days

Charles, clearly familiar with our past dynamic, must have found the current scene suspicious. His doubts deepened as he observed me

When Cadell left to use the restroom, Charles seized the opportunity. He fixed his piercing gaze on me and said, his voice edged with suspicion, Aurora, what exactly are you up to?”

I blinked innocently and replied, Charles, hasn’t Cadell already explained? We’re back together and planning

to get married”

Do you think I’ll believe that?Charles’s sharp eyes seemed to cut right through me. Aurora, I’d advise you not to play games. The Hartman family isn’t what it once was, You have no way to compete with us.”

I chuckled softly. What are you talking about, Charles? I don’t understand what you mean,”

The Hartman family was indeed a shadow of its former self. Its reputation was in shambles, its finances

strained after the theft of key business secrets. If not for Cyril’s collaboration with Prosperity Group, the family might have already plunged into turmoil. I couldn’t help but wonder, What exactly made Charles so

confident? Was it purely his ties to Philip?”

I mulled over these thoughts, deliberately ignoring Charles’s pointed question. My dismissive attitude seemed to infuriate him further, shadows of anger flickered in his eyes

When Cadell returned, he noticed the tension between us and looked at me, puzzled, as if expecting an

explanation

I cast him a hurt look and said nothing, leaving him to draw his own conclusions. Sure enough, Cadell

couldn’t help but speak up. Grandpa, Aurora is truly a good person. Please don’t give her a hard time.”

That line nearly caused Charles to choke with anger. He scoffed loudly but said nothing more

Cadell kept soothing him, and eventually Charles’s expression softened, if only slightly

Due to the many pressing affairs of the Hartman family. Charles was soon called away

Night fell, and the time to visit the supply chain drew near. I felt a growing sense of anxiety

Cadell reassured me, saying, Don’t worry. I promised you, and I’ll keep my word.”

I suppressed my unease and nodded lightly

Before leaving the Hartman estate, I had a vague feeling someone was following us if I wasnt mistaken

Charles must have sent someone to keep an eye on us

Charles was always cautious. Once he sensed that something was amiss, he would in

measures

bly take

Pretending not to notice, I continued pushing Cadell’s wheelchair

We didn’t head straight for the supply chain. Instead, we stopped to have dinner first. After all, there was an important matter ahead that I couldn’t face on an empty stomach

Once everything was ready, Cadell led me to the secret supply chain

The chain wasn’t located at the Hartman family’s headquarters, it was hidden in a remote suburban area

The outskirts looked desolate, abandoned if Cadell hadn’t told me to park the car there, I never would

suspected that anything unusual lay nearby

The evidence had gathered from the Hartman family only revealed a small portion, it didn’t provide

picture of the supply chain

Thinking back now, the situation in the Hartman family’s basement might have just been a temporary holding

area for those detained women

The true supply chain must be hidden here

As I stepped out of the car, I saw a hint of pride on Cade’s face with a hint of self satisfaction, he said, Aurora, you’d never imagine what our Hartman family is truly capable off”

Fergring curiosity, asked

omething very valuable

Of courseSince Cadell had decided to show me, he no longer held back

Smiling broadly he said. Aurora, mis supply chain has played a major role in the Hartman family’s rapid rise”

I nodded as though understanding and Cade looked quite pleased

He curled his lips into a smirk and said softly. But you’d better be prepared, you might be shocked

I smiled and said Now even more curious to see what it is

With pride, Cadell directed me to push him to a certain spot. He then lightly tapped an inconspicuous stone

by the roadside

The ground suddenly sank, revealing a small entrance a compact elevator that could fit four or five people

What a well hidden setup

I had come alone, I would never have found

Cadell was satisfied with my surprised expression Come on, push me inside

Steadying my nerves, I followed hun into the elevator

I had no idea how large the underground facility of the Hartman family was, but the elevator kept descending for a full ten seconds before finally reaching the bottom

When the doors opened, I was greeted by a brightly it hallway lined with individual cells

The hallway and cels were completely separate. The corridor was meticulously clear, but the cells were

filthy

Inside each cell were at least a dozen young women, all without any clothing

They stared at me with vacant eyes, like lifeless dolls

The sight was deeply disturbing. Was this how my sister Sylvia was once stripped of her dignity and imprisoned
