Chapter 106 Submission and Disguise
My heart was in my throat.
Philip’s words were casual, almost careless, but his gaze never left me. His eyes were slightly narrowed, as if he were merely making small talk, but I could sense the subtext in his words.
Philip was convinced of his suspicions!
He had confirmed the relationship between me and 0687!
The thought sent shivers down my spine, and my lips turned pale in an instant.
How had Philip figured it out?
I had never mentioned having a sister to anyone!
Even my father, up until his death, hadn’t used the surname Wenmir!
And my sister never uttered the name either!
From that angle, our family’s secrecy was ironclad!
Was Philip doubting me just because we looked alike?
But I was certain I hadn’t given anything away!
My mind was a whirlwind of fear and confusion, but I could clearly feel the weight of countless eyes on me. I was locked in their sights, and any sudden move would result in a bullet to my head.
I was in the grip of an unprecedented crisis.
My heart thumped wildly, as if it might leap out of my throat at any moment.
I struggled to keep my composure, pushing down the panic rising within me. “Why would you think that? I’ve told you, I don’t know 0687.”
Philip laughed, his body shaking with the laughter. “Aurora, don’t you see how unconvincing your words are? If you didn’t know 0687, why would you be so interested in her?”
I lowered my gaze slightly, maintaining my calm. “0687 is your favorite woman. Isn’t it natural for me to want
to learn more about her?”
Philip chuckled softly. “Aurora, I have to admit, you are really good with words. You almost had me
convinced.”
My stomach dropped. What did Philip mean by that?
Had he already confirmed my relationship with Sylvia?
The certainty in his eyes suggested he had solid evidence.
It seemed that no matter how much I protested, Philip would no longer believe me.
This was a disaster for me!
I couldn’t wrap my head around it. My father had hidden his true identity for over two decades. Even my mother’s side of the family had no clue about his true identity!

Chapter 106 Submission à
To all our neighbors and relatives, my mother was seen as a promiscuous woman who had children out of wedlock–my sister and I were seen as illegitimate children. It wasn’t until the moment our father died that
we even found out who he really was.
Even now, I had no idea how his identity had been exposed, nor could I understand how Philip had so easily uncovered the connection between Sylvia and me. Could there have been a traitor close to my father?
I pressed my lips together, debating whether I should risk it all, when Philip pressed his fingertip against my lips. “Aurora,” he said, his voice unnervingly calm, “don’t be so tense. I’ve told you before–you’re exactly my
type. I’d hate to see you die so easily.”
I looked up at him, and he spoke slowly, almost lazily. “Aurora, your relationship with Darian Lancelot… it’s not so simple, is it? I’ve never seen him pay such attention to anyone before. You must mean something special
to him.”
At that, I paused, my suspicions solidified. Philip couldn’t have figured out the truth about my sister and me by himself. Someone with inside knowledge about my father must have spilled the beans. After all, if he truly had had such capabilities, he would have already discovered that I was the one in control of Prosperity
Group. But he was clueless.
So that’s why, I thought bitterly, my father’s mission was a success, yet he still died. Someone had betrayed
him.
Countless faces flashed through my mind, but I couldn’t pinpoint the traitor. My fists clenched so hard my nails bit into my palms. No matter what, I vowed to myself, I would find that person.
Philip, irritated by my silence, gripped my chin and forced me to meet his gaze. “Aurora,” he said, his voice icy, “I’m talking to you. Stay with me.”
My eyelashes fluttered slightly, and I replied softly, “Philip, you’re giving me too much credit. Darian Lancelot and I have no special relationship. We were just childhood playmates. That’s all there is to it.”
Philip let out a low, sinister chuckle, his thumb brushing my cheek with a chilling malice. “Aurora,” he said, “I’ve told you before–I don’t take kindly to disobedience. I know Darian Lancelot better than you do. If you weren’t special to him, he wouldn’t lift a finger for you.”
I stayed silent as Philip’s thumb slid down from my cheek to my throat, pressing lightly against the fragile
bone, his touch oozing menace.
His silent threat was crystal clear: one wrong move, and he’d snap my neck without a second thought..
“Honestly, Mr. Hodge, I’ve got no clue why Darian Lancelot cares about me. But if you think I’m useful, I’ll play along,” I murmured, my voice sweet and placating.
Philip smirked, giving a slight nod before his hand slapped my cheek, the gesture laced with contempt. “Now
you’re getting it,” he sneered.
I plastered on a meek smile, my hand creeping up to clutch his tie. Every movement was painfully slow, almost lazy, crafted to seem utterly harmless.
With a smoldering, half–lidded look, I leaned in, my voice a breathy whisper. “Philip, before we go further… help me. The Hartman family drugged me. I’m on the edge.”
He hesitated, and my fingers glided up his tie, grazing his cheek, my eyes wide and desperate.
