Chapter 13
Archer moved quickly.
The next day he ordered expensive private cuisine, having it packaged and delivered
to
my house.
After confirming it wasn’t poisoned, I dumped those exquisite dishes, one by one, into my dog’s food bowl.]
Then I sent Archer a message.
[Are you sure you don’t have a single penny left?]]]
He replied instantly.
[Yes! I’m willing to spend everything for you!]]]
I snorted and took a photo of my precious dog happily chowing down, sending it over.[]
TArcher, you disappoint me so much. Don’t you know dogs can’t eat overly salty food? You’re clearly still not paying attention to me.]]]
[I don’t want to forgive you anymore.]]]
Without waiting for his reply, I blocked and deleted him.[]
The whole operation was smooth as silk.[]
Locking me in a bathroom, stealing my dress, hijacking my party, and wanting me to foot the bill?
I would forgive him?
In his fucking dreams!
Not making him eat shit was already my greatest mercy![]
Later I heard that when Archer realized he’d been played, he was furious and wanted to come to my door to confront me.[]
But the Hayes family wouldn’t give him that chance.]
Soon, he was forcibly sent away by the Hayes family.[]
A young master who’d been pampered in the city since childhood, sent back to the impoverished countryside–you can imagine his psychological trauma.
Later still, it was Aunt Hayes who mentioned him again during a visit to my house.
She said Archer couldn’t stand the hardship in the countryside and couldn’t return home, gradually developing bad habits of petty theft.[]
Finally, because he wanted a new phone but had no money, he was caught red–handed while stealing and was sent to prison.[]
His life was completely ruined.[]
When Aunt Hayes spoke of this stepson who was only two months younger than her own son, her tone carried inevitable sighs.
She spoke while secretly observing my reaction.]
But I remained expressionless throughout.]
To me, Archer’s fate was his own doing.
I hadn’t kicked him when he was down–I’d simply taken back what should have been mine and never given him another chance to hurt me.[]
As for Celeste, she did finish all three years of high school.
But her days weren’t pleasant.]
After that incident, she became a complete laughingstock at school.
Her family wasn’t without thoughts of causing trouble at school.]
Her mother even stormed into our classroom, pointing at my nose and cursing me as inhuman, saying I’d deliberately set a trap to frame her daughter and corrupted her child.[]
Her father loudly made a scene at the classroom door, trying to use public opinion to force me to compensate for their family’s “losses.”
Watching that couple’s ugly behavior, then looking at Celeste who wanted to bury her head in her desk, I knew how much mud she’d slung at me behind my back to avoid a beating.
She secretly looked at me with pleading eyes, begging me not to reveal the truth.]
But why should I wrong myself for the sake of her dignity?[]
In front of all my classmates and teachers who’d rushed over, I calmly requested to review the surveillance footage from outside the teaching building restroom restroom that day, as well as from the Crystal Lounge corridor.]
The truth came to light.[]
Everyone learned what really happened and understood why Archer had suddenly transferred schools.[]
Facing the contemptuous looks of all her classmates, Celeste was mortified with shame. The way she looked at me now carried bone–deep hatred.
From then on, she completely changed.]]
She could no longer focus on studying, becoming paranoid every day, thinking everyone was mocking her behind her back.]
She devoted all her energy to figuring out how to get revenge on me, how to make me as disgraced as she was.
Unfortunately, her level was too low.
I never gave her any opportunity.[]
After the SAT results came out, I organized a graduation party where classmates eagerly discussed which universities they’d applied to – University of Miami, Caltech, West Point…]
And me? I chose the Duke University I’d always dreamed of.
Amid the laughter and conversation, someone suddenly brought up Celeste’s name.
“Did you hear she’s getting married?”
“Really? Getting married so young?”
“It’s true. After graduation, she went to work washing dishes at some restaurant, and she hooked up with a manager there. Now she’s pregnant after all that fooling around.“]
Hearing these words, I felt not a trace of guilt in my heart.]
Because what led to her downfall was never me.]
It was her own heart – forever insatiable, jealous, and greedy.]]
