Chapter 94
As I walked down the familiar hospital corridor, my gut churned. This wasn’t the first time I had been called to the hospital and I knew it wasn’t the last. It probably was the usual black eye, broken rib, burnt arms or having her stomach pumped from alcohol poisoning or a drug overdose. She didn’t want to let go of her absurd clients and didn’t want to stop consuming drugs and alcohol.
No matter how much I tried to help her, I always walked away with a broken heart. So, 3 summers ago, I finally gave up on having to drive down to pay her bills or check on her injuries. I created an account at the hospital which had surplus money for her treatments.
After that, the doctors just emailed me her hospital receipts and added a brief note about her injuries. I made an effort to drop by the hospital on my monthly trips to Greenwoods. If they had any concerns about mum, they would fill me in then. It had been a while since I got a call to come down to see the doctor.
The receptionist said that the doctor had requested to see me first before I met mum. Blake was glued to my side. We had quickly stopped at the apartment to change and Blake suggested we pack an overnight bag just in case we had to stay the night. He held my hand the whole drive here, trying to comfort me. I kept telling myself that I didn’t care about mums condition but I knew I was kidding myself. I cared and it was my biggest failure in life. Not being able to stop caring about a selfish woman.
We got to the doctor’s office and Blake knocked on the door.
“Come in” a voice called out.
Blake opened the door and motioned me to go first. Doctor Thomas was sitting behind a desk in the middle of the office, looking over some x–rays. When he saw me enter, he put the x–rays down and stood up.
“Miss Peters, thank you so much for coming so quickly.” He said and walk over to me.
“Not a problem Dr Thomas. Doc, this is my fiancé, Blake Cooper. Blake, Dr Thomas is usually the doctor that does mums treatments.” I introduced them and they both shook each other’s hands and Anthony gave Blake an odd nod.
“Nice to meet you, Mr Cooper. Please have a seat” he pointed to the chairs and then walked back around to his seat.
“Miss Peters, I know it’s been a while since I called you in to visit your mother but this time is a little serious so I thought it was best
“It’s fine, doc. What’s happened? Is she okay?”
you came
“Well, yes and no. She’s been physically assaulted again, and I know this will sound harsh but that’s not something new to her. However, this time it’s concerning us because your mother is 6 weeks pregnant”
Did he just say pregnant?
I started laughing. Blake looked at me like I was crazy.
“I’m sorry Dr Thomas, I think I just heard you say that my mother was pregnant?” I laughed.
“Miss Peters, your mother is 6 weeks pregnant. I ran the tests and the ultrasound.”
I stopped laughing and looked at the doctor. He had a serious expression. I felt nauseous.

“Our main concern is the health of the foetus and your mother. She didn’t realise she was pregnant until I told her earlier this evening, which sent her into a frenzy. So we called you”
Oh dear lord, what the Fuxk was happening?! My mother! Pregnant?
“But doc, she-… she had her tubes tied after she had me. How’s this possible?”
“There is a very low chance of it happening but it can happen Miss Peters. Now, you need to talk to her. There are plenty of options for her and we need to do something.”
I turned to Blake and he was already staring at me. His eyes held sadness and I knew it reflected from the pain in my own eyes.

“I-… I.. I really don’t know what to say.”
“She’s in room 16 if you want to go see her. If you could please let us know by the morning what you’ve decided so we can proceed appropriately. I leave you two to have a chat” Dr Thomas got up and left the office. I stared at the empty seat in front of me.
