Bryce found me just as I was leaving the cemetery.

I hadn’t gone home, hadn’t answered any of Bryce’s calls.

Inside the car, his hands gripped the steering wheel, his eyes lingering on me with a heavy, searching look.
His voice was hoarse as he finally spoke.
“I’ll take care of Karley.”
But now, with a child on the way, he was still pretending to be

stared out the window.
“What does that have to do with me?
“It’s not like the baby is mine.”
His eyes darkened instantly, but a cold smile tugged at his lips. Suddenly, he seized my wrist, forcing me to turn and face him.
“Angela, do you really not care at all?”

The corners of his eyes were tinged red, his gaze locked on me as if he was desperate not to miss a single flicker of emotion.
“And where have you been these past few days?
“You won’t even pick up the phone?”
But my face betrayed nothing.
I merely glanced at him, my voice barely above a whisper.
“Bryce.
“I’m going home.”
The air between us turned deathly still.

After a long moment, he let out a bitter, mocking laugh, as if I’d
just told the world’s funniest joke. His tone was laced with
arrogance.
“Home?
“And where exactly would that be?
“You don’t have a family to go back to, do you?
“Besides me, do you even have anyone left in this world?”
