Chapter 11
Evan yanked the car door open to find nothing but bloodstains on the driver’s seat. Beverly was nowhere in sight, and panic ripped through him.
“Find her!” he roared at his bodyguards.
They knew how much Beverly meant to him and instantly moved out.
Meanwhile, Beverly woke up to be greeted by the sight of nothing but whiteness.
“Beverly, you’re finally awake!” Her doctor, Ashley Tate, held her hand in agitation. “Congratulations, you’re pregnant! All your suffering has come to an end now!”
Beverly placed a hand on her abdomen and stroked it gently, unable to believe that her dream had actually come true.
Ashley pulled out her phone and said, “I’ll call Mr. Gray now to tell him the good news.”
“No, don’t. I want you to get rid of the baby.” Beverly’s joy was gone in an instant. All that was left was sorrow. The heavens had pulled such a horrible prank on her, allowing her to get pregnant at a time like this.
Ashley was stunned. “Beverly, you’ve gone through so much over the past five years to conceive this child. Think about the suffering you’ve endured for this. Why don’t you want the baby anymore?”
Beverly looked at her, her face pale and eyes listless. She seemed to be looking at someone else through Ashley. Her lips trembled slightly as she said, “He’s not worthy of me giving him a child.”
Evan never broke his promises to her, yet he’d lied about banishing Cindy from Alterra. They’d barely parted before he’d hurried to fuck Cindy. He didn’t deserve her giving him another child.
Ashley’s jaw dropped at Beverly’s words. Could it be the rumors she’d heard were true? That Evan was registered as the father of another woman’s child? Had he actually cheated on Beverly and had a child with someone else?
Seeing the apprehensive look on Ashley’s face, Beverly thought she was afraid of incurring Evan’s wrath if she were to handle
the abortion herself.
She held Ashley’s hand and said, “I won’t force you to do anything if you’re unwilling. I can just go to another hospital. I just hope you’ll promise not to tell anyone I’m pregnant, including Evan.”
That solidified Ashley’s guess that something had gone wrong between Beverly and Evan. She knew how kind and gentle Beverly was. After all, Beverly had even defended her each time Evan had berated her over the past five years.

She said, “Don’t go to any other doctors, Beverly. I know your body better than anyone else. You’ve been in poor health since you gave birth to Harry, and things have only become worse because of everything you’ve done to try to conceive again over the
past five years.
“You passed out from the slightest sign of threatened miscarriage. Your body isn’t ready for an abortion now-you have to rest and become stronger first. If you’re still set on terminating the pregnancy when you’re better, then I’ll do it for you.”
She couldn’t let anything happen to Beverly, even though she knew Evan would fire her once he found out.
“Alright. I’ll give you a month to make me better before terminating the pregnancy,” Beverly said firmly.
The baby was innocent, and they didn’t deserve to be born into a broken family with a cheating father and an anguished mother.
Beverly was reminded of her younger self. The memories she’d locked away broke free, attacking her already shattered heart and making it throb painfully.
Suddenly, Ashley held her hand. She said hesitantly, “I need to tell you something, Beverly. Please don’t get too agitated when you hear what I have to say.”
The fact that Beverly didn’t want the baby made it clear that things had gone wrong between her and Evan-perhaps Evan truly had betrayed Beverly. If so, Ashley felt it was her duty to tell Beverly what she knew.
She said, “Mr. Gray might have another child.”
Beverly’s eyes widened in astonishment. She stared at Ashley helplessly. Agony colored her gaze, and her temples throbbed. The blood drained from her face, and it took her a long time to calm down.

Then, she asked, “What did you say?”
Ashley didn’t know whether to continue when she saw how tormented Beverly was. As she hesitated, she heard footsteps come from outside the hospital ward. Then, a bodyguard opened the door.
Evan strode in, pushing Ashley out of the way before throwing his arms around Beverly. “Honey, you scared the hell out of me. Why did you faint? Why do you look so pale? Your hands are so cold.”
Beverly was caught off guard by his sudden appearance. She didn’t want to see his feigned devotion, so she averted her gaze, fixing it on his neck. She immediately saw the love bites there.
Her eyes widened, and she tried to shove him away. “It’s none of your business what happens to me. Get away from me!”
However, her strength was no match for his. He didn’t even budge. He merely tightened his hold on her, allowing her to vent her anger on him. “Honey, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry for being late.”
Beverly was forced to curl up in Evan’s arms. Her gaze turned ice-cold as she smelled Cindy’s daisy scent on him. No matter how sorry he was and how many times he apologized, he wouldn’t be able to make up for the pain he’d caused.
Her silence made him think he’d pacified her, and he turned to look sharply at Ashley. “Why did Beverly faint?”
Beverly also looked at Ashley, secretly balling her hands into fists. She wanted to know why Ashley had said that Evan might possibly have another child, but this wasn’t the time.
“Beverly’s period came ahead of time because she was too emotional. She passed out due to blood loss,” Ashley said with her head lowered. “She’ll be better after some rest.’

After years of stirring up storms in the business world, Evan was infamous for his ruthlessness and harsh methods. Aside from Beverly, everyone feared him.
He swept an unfathomable look over Ashley’s face before turning back to Beverly, his eyes instantly turning tender. “Honey, she’s been your doctor for five years, yet she’s failed to help you conceive. She’s made your body worse too.
“I can’t leave you in her hands anymore, and you don’t need an obstetrician anymore, seeing as we’re going to adopt the girl from the orphanage soon. I’ve hired a renowned general practitioner to take care of you.”
He wrapped his arms around her and lifted her into the air. Before she even realized what was going on, he’d placed her in a wheelchair and turned to his bodyguards, saying, “Take Beverly to the doctor for another checkup.”
Ashley’s heart leapt to her throat. The jig would be up if another doctor checked Beverly, and she would be doomed. She looked at Beverly.
Beverly slumped in the wheelchair and clutched her aching abdomen. She looked at Evan coldly and said, “I’m not switching doctors, nor do I need another checkup. I don’t want to see you, so get out.”
The bodyguards froze where they were, not daring to take another step at her words. They knew Beverly meant more to Evan than life itself, and they didn’t dare slack off on any orders he issued that were related to her. At the same time, they couldn’t defy Beverly’s commands.
“Alright, alright. We’ll skip the checkup if you don’t want to do it. I’ll watch over you from outside since you don’t want to see me. I’m not going anywhere,” Evan said, his expression softening.
He bent down to pick Beverly up again. She struggled in his arms and tried to push him away, but nothing she did worked. In the end, she shut her eyes and let him place her on the bed.
She wanted answers from Ashley, but Evan chased the latter out. He even confiscated her phone.
That wasn’t the end of it. The bodyguards stood outside the hospital ward like guardian dogs, and Evan had a desk, chair, and laptop placed outside the door. He attended to work right there.
Since he wouldn’t let anyone get close to her, she had to wait for another opportunity.
:
Evan shut the door to the hospital ward. In his hand, he held a coat belonging to another man. He clenched a fist tightly around
Another man had touched Beverly!
He looked at his bodyguards. “Find out who brought Beverly to the hospital.”
They soon got the information from the medical personnel and reported back to Evan. “Mr. Gray, Mrs. Gray was brought here at 1:00 pm by a man who looked to be about 30. He also had a child with him.”
1:00 pm? That was when he was with Cindy.
The Ferrari had been parked not far from the villa. Had Beverly discovered anything?
Evan balled his hands into fists and pushed open the ward door. “Honey, why were you at Nordo Villas?”
