Chapter 4: Chapter 4

But I had to continue the act.

Changing staff was a small matter. The key issue was that Victoria had entered as the CEO.

The security guard sneered. “Yeah, right. The real CEO, Ms. Victoria Stone, just went inside. You might look like you have money, but you have this air of someone who’s fallen on hard times. Are you here to cause trouble? There’s an important meeting today. No unauthorized personnel allowed. Get lost!”

I calmly presided over the meeting and signed the share dilution resolution.I awarded a portion of the shares to the rank-and-file employees, diluting the shareholders’ power.

A smug smile spread across Ethan’s face as he deliberately pulled his hand away.

The two guards shoved me hard, and I nearly fell.

Could he really not wait?

“Your remaining stake in the company is already pitifully small. Why don’t you just sell it to me and go home to enjoy a life of leisure!”

“You’re a disgrace! You’ve squandered away generations of our family’s hard work!”

Ethan said awkwardly, “I just got the notice yesterday. It’s just a normal staffing change. Don’t overthink it.”

“You’ve gotten more and more useless since you got married. Your husband treats you like a queen, and your parents gave you everything, but you’re just a hopeless waste! Now that your parents are gone, you’re just giving away shares like this. Are you planning on an early retirement?”

On the day of the shareholder meeting, I arrived at the company entrance early.

“I’m Sophia Carter, CEO of Carter Design.”

Several of the family elders pointed and yelled at me, their expressions of bitter disappointment making me feel a pang of insecurity.

“Did you replace the security guards?” I asked, swallowing my indignation.

They had long been dissatisfied with me, and the moment I signed the papers, they finally erupted:

His first words weren’t concern, but an accusation.

I grabbed Ethan’s hand. “You’ll always be by my side, right?”

But the security guard stopped me. “Who are you?”

“You’re nothing compared to Victoria. Why don’t you just sell your remaining shares to her?”

“Darling, you are truly a disappointment. After seven years of marriage, I’ve had to watch you run this company into the ground, step by step. I was always against diluting the stock, but you insisted. You’ve truly broken my heart.”

Ethan tried to explain something, but I couldn’t be bothered to listen. I straightened my clothes and walked inside.

I frowned, realizing that in just a few short days, the company had replaced the staff. They didn’t recognize me at all.

In the conference room, several shareholders looked at me with complicated expressions.

Just then, Ethan arrived. “Babe, why didn’t you wait for me to come with you?”
