Chapter 85
I ran over and fell on my knees next to her limp body. I lifted her head and put it on my knees thinking that something had to bring her back. There wasn’t a chance in the hell I was living that she was dead, that they were both dead.
I held her lifeless body in my hands when the dread washed over me threefold and I looked up at Darian’s apathetic face.
“Where is she?” I breathed and wiped the tears. My voice wasn’t louder than a scared whisper but I tried again.
“Where is she?” It was louder, he heard me but he stood still, not acknowledging me in the slightest.
“WHERE IS SHE?!” I growled so the base of the house shook under our feet and everything on the walls fell on the floor.
Trixy was in the front, our eyes were evidence of our rage and my canines extended while my claws came out.
I heard his voice in the background while I ran up the stairs to the second floor where her bedroom was.
“I made sure she’d never experience your pain,” he said behind me when I was halfway up the stairs.
I ran down the corridor and burst through her pink rainbow-covered door when the smell of her decomposing body slammed against me so hard that I fell back on my steps and into something hard behind me.
His large stature covered the door and he looked down at me like I was a mouse caught in a trap.
“You killed-” I couldn’t breathe, the walls were closing in on me and the anger rose faster than I could handle the emotions already on the surface.
I raised my hand and aimed to slash my claws over his face but he moved in the last second so I cut them down over his chest. When his chest showed the marks of my claws and the crimson drops pooled in his wounds it raised a feral, primal rage I’d shoved away for so long.
I coiled my fingers and connected my fist with his temple and his head turned halfway but it didn’t do nearly enough damage.
My claws punctured his skin and I dug deeper into his flesh before I pulled down on his chest, by the time I was done, he was an open wound and I was stained with his blood but he stood as though he hadn’t been touched.
“You killed her,” I said in an exhale. “Why?” I said.
“It didn’t have to be this way. Why’d you run?” His voice was low and quizzical. He stepped closer, our bodies brushed up against each other and he cupped my cheek.
“She could’ve been alive, left to live her long life and decide for herself what the future would hold. Your parents didn’t have to pay the price for your disobedience but you chose yourself over them. You made the decision, again. And now you have to live with it, again.”
A fountain of emotion where everything poured over suddenly turned dry as though someone pulled the plug and cut the water off.
There was nothing there, however deep I tried to dig to find a speck of a feeling, I couldn’t find it. All I saw was my baby sister’s cold body on the white sheet getting bluer by the minute and her smell forever stuck in my nose.
But then I searched closer to the surface for a reminder of why I was still alive and that’s when I felt the rage that burned like a scorching fire and I closed my eyes and touched the flame, letting it be the center of everything I was right now.
I needed the anger to stay alive and to survive this. I don’t know what Darian expected to happen now; we’d go back home to the palace and I would be his docile little fuck puppet?
He not only removed the last tethers to my humanity, the only people I hung onto, my baby sister who hadn’t even started her life, but he also awoke a rage that you can’t feel until you stop pushing away the things that make you truly crazy.
I followed Darian to the car, my mind was somewhere else entirely and I saw my sister every time I blinked- not her body on the bed, I saw her laughing and playing in the yard and crying when the cookies didn’t turn perfectly round. I saw her lip pout when she didn’t get her way and her eyes sparkled when she heard her favorite show play on the TV.

Chapter 85
That’s what I saw, that’s what I’d remember.
He drove the car through my old pack and I saw the Alpha not far from my house, he was lingering with a few of his warriors down the street, just watching.
“Did he know?” I asked and locked eyes with my former Alpha.
Darian looked at me through the rearview mirror.
“He knew,”
We were back at the palace and the only valuable thought I’d gathered on the car ride was that I needed to get to the Council.
They were the only ones who might have the tools needed to take down the Lycan king, no one person was strong enough but maybe the Dark Guard or another secret weapon I didn’t know about could do the job.
I just knew that if there was an answer, that’s where I’d find it..
We walked in together and were met in the foyer by Gabriel.
He held his hands at his sides and looked quizzically over us both and I saw Nora walking down the hallway behind him with a few of the guards.
“You’re back,” he stated.
I was unsure of why he was so preserved and careful with his words but I decided not to give it another thought and just head back to my room.
“Your things have been moved to the royal suite,” Darian announced.
Though my heart dropped, sleeping with Darian was the least of my worries; how could I sneak out and go to the council if he would be a constant thorn in my side?
“Why?” I bit out.
He stepped closer and cupped my cheek. Darian gazed into my eyes and his other hand landed on top of the mark he put on my hip.
“Because I no longer trust that you will behave. Therefore, puppet, I will be keeping you close,”
“Why don’t you just put me on a leash,” I spat and jerked away from his hold but he grabbed my face and pulled me in.
“Do not tempt me,” he seethed.
I pulled away and Darian’s green eyes darkened as he watched me turn but just when I was about to step away and curse my existence, a single memory landed in my mind as though it had dropped from the gods themselves.
I slowly turned on my heels and locked eyes with Gabriel.
“Darian said he heard that I feared for my sister,” I started, “but the only person I told was you,” I said quietly because the words caused me actual physical pain to speak.
