Chapter 105

I stopped reading and looked up at the men sitting in my chairs, drinking my scotch while their Guards fucked the girl I paid for.

“If you keep reading we will kill them,” Rhys snarled.

“If I don’t keep reading they will kill her,”

Rhys and I were well aware of the reputation we had and what people thought- all of it was true. I was not the person you wanted to see in battle, it’s much like seeing the reaper, there is only one way for it to end.

But not with them, not with Hazel, I couldn’t negotiate with her life and I made sure that whoever could would be forever plagued by their decision. Alpha Emanuel was a prime example, he bought into the game and torment thinking it was I who pulled the strings; all in exchange for a patch of dirt. Of course, I needed to play my part and so I offered it to him with one last stake, that he make Iliana his Luna, the person who’d rule beside him and join him in all of his affairs.

Alpha Emanuel would have to spend the rest of his life with that twitchy, uncertain cunt who so easily twisted the knife into Hazel’s heart, and she would have to live knowing that her mate and the father of any future children fucked his other girls a few doors down of their bedroom. I knew Emanuel, how he worked, and who he truly desired; that was why he marked Hazel, she was going to be the last one but she would always be an option to him whereas she’s the only option for me.

“Have you foolishly fallen for the girl, Your Majesty?”

I looked up at Derek and resisted the urge to flip the desk over on him and crush those fragile bones.

“Don’t be ridiculous. She is merely a means to an end,” I said and looked down at the last scene.

I didn’t need to read all of the theatrical bullshit, the ending was enough and it was getting near Impossible to keep Rhys at bay.

Kill the girl. You have twenty-four hours

Before I looked up, I made sure to push Rhys back and ignored how his claws pressed into the bank of my mind and his growls were causing an itch in my brain.

They can’t know that I’m affected. They can speculate and guess but they can’t know.

I put the letter down and locked eyes with them.

Each of us had a drink and Nora was keeping the guards happy in the back.

“Twenty-four hours,” I said and raised my glass.

Augustine drew his finger over the edge of the glass causing a humming noise to rise.

“If that is a problem, you can always ask for our help. We’d be glad to take care of it for you,”

The chuckle that bubbled in my chest and left my mouth made them both squirm in their seats and their shoulders rose stiffly.

“If you as much as touch a hair on her head or breathe her air, I will see to it that nobody in the council survives long enough to take power over Valeria. Losing what I must in the process. The girl is mine to finish,” I put the glass down and smiled respectfully at the guests in my home.

“Yes, well,” Derek said and pulled his collar and straightened his coat when they stood. “We will see you in no later than twenty-four hours. Hopefully for the last time,” his shriveled-up lips moved as he spoke but his words sounded like useless buzzing in my ears. They needed to leave because I was down on my last string of restraint and Rhys was gnawing it off like it was a deer heart.

Derek turned the top of his ring, it was a container of sorts where they stored their powers. Only the top five members had them- I guess four now that Ashbury was no longer amongst them- and of course the Elder. The portal opened behind them and we shook hands, the Guards patted their uniforms and two at a time they went through the portal and disappeared back into the Council.

The second that I saw the last string of light disappear I slammed my hand into the wall and for the first time in my life, I got lightheaded. Stone dust fell to the floor and my office now had a hole in the shape of my fist.

Chapter 105

Ay Nose Aura was putting her bra back on and walked over to the desk where the robe was hidden away.

A hak it out and unfolded it, revealing the dagger and the plastic bag containing the herbs. The smell when I opened the bag was something straight out

w the hoiture chambers in the council’s deepest cellar. Rotten flesh and dried blood from years prior which wasn’t all that strange considering the herbs were mixed in a specific blood blend

how Save twenty-four hours to kill her,” Nora trembled.

tponed the herbs into the palm of my hand.

have twenty-four hours to hide her,”

She took the dagger and I held out my arm. Nora put the leather band from the dagger between my teeth and I bit down.

it’s not anything you haven’t done before,”

I looked at her and then down at the bruises of my fist.

Nora sighed hopelessly and furrowed her brows when she grabbed the herbs from my hand.

She gritted her teeth and a look of disdain spread on her face.

hate the person you become when you take these,”

“I ever cross a line, make sure I pay for it later,”

She wet my stare with a hard glare and raised a brow.

Whys do,” she said and slit open a deep cut in my arm. I put the leather strap between my teeth and bit down. Nora pushed her fingers into the wound and I felt the swest winning down my face as I clenched the desk to stand still.
