Chapter 33 Someone Is Covering for Him

I must get that nervecontrolling d**g

Only then could I properly analyze its components and cure my mother’s illness. I could also use the drugs provided by the Hartman family to further trace the people behind them and find clues about Sylvia

After all, knowing Cadell as I did, there was no way the Hartman family could have developed this on their own. They had always been in the jewelry business and would never invest resources in developing a drug

The only possibility was that someone behind the Hartman family provided it

It seemed that they were worried about the potential risks associated with the d**gafraid it might backfire on themso they were unwilling to show themselves directly, leaving the Hartman family to handle it

My gaze turned cold as I said to Darian, We can proceed with the deal, but we can only give them thirty percent. And I won’t pay a dime in cash. Supporting Cadell’s bid for heir can be considered, but that’s my bottom line. You can negotiate with the Hartman family.”

Darian never questioned me. After asking a few followup details, he ended the call

I turned off my phone, but my mind couldn’t settle

Support Cadell as the heir? The Hartman family must be daydreaming!‘

I would only agree to their condition on the surface. Once I figured out who was behind them, I wouldn’t

follow through with any cooperation

Still, as infuriating as this situation was, it was also something of an opportunity

At least I could filter out a few leads from this list

Even though I played the role of an ordinary person in front of Cadell for seven years, my company was actually an industry leader. Even without direct involvement, I still knew most of the people Cadell had dealt

with

After narrowing things down, I focused on one person: Philip Hodge, heir to a renowned medical dynasty

If anyone had the capability to develop such a d**g, it would be Philip

Developing a neuropharmaceutical requires vast amounts of experimental dataonly a wellestablished medical family like Philip’s could pull it off

Still, I didn’t believe Philip acted alone; some of the other people Cadell worked with must also be involved

But I had no idea what their ultimate goal might be

I narrowed my eyes. Philip was my company’s biggest competitoressentially, my enemy

Although neurodrugs were highly valuable, I knew Cadell would never collaborate with a rival company

Clearly, Philip must have directed Cadell to approach me. He was aware that the d**g had serious side

effects, potentially even breaking the law

So, he wanted me to sell it. That way, my company’s reputation would be ruined, and Philip could easily

eliminate his greatest obstacleme

I looked down and refocused my thoughts

Too bad. It was still unclear who the real prey was in this scenario

After giving Darian some instructions to ensure the d**g wouldn’t hit the market anytime soon, I felt slightly

more at ease

Darian was one of my most trusted aidehe knew exactly what I said

With that, the burden in my heart lightened somewhat, and I felt like I could finally relax

I was confident that when Charles returned tomorrow, his first order of business would be to meet with me

When that happened, I would request to meet Philip..

I was not worried about Philip recognizing me; he only knew Darian’s identity and had no knowledge of who

was

This gap in information gave me enough room to plan my next move and figure out how to intervene

Before I could think it through, my phone rang. It was Cyril calling

Without hesitation, I answered, What’s going on?”

Cyril’s tone was very serious. Charles came back early.”

I paused briefly. Charles really does care about Cadellhe rushed back as soon as something happened

But if it was just Charles returning, Cyril wouldn’t bother to inform me. Something else must have happened

I asked, And then? Did something happen?”

Yes,Cyril replied, with a hint of exasperation. The first thing he did after coming back was to go to the

police station and bail Cadell out.”

Hearing this, a chill flashed through my eyes

Cadell had just been arrested. How did he get bailed out so quickly

This was happening even faster than I expected

Could the Hartman family really have this much pull

Or had someone behind Cadell stepped in

My doubts weren’t fully formed before Cyril continued, Charles found someone to take the fall for Cadell, claiming that the drugs were purchased under Cadell’s name by someone else. As for the drugging, they said

Cadell knew nothing about it and was being framed. With a scapegoat in place, Cadell was released without

charges.”

I let out a cold laugh

Although I had anticipated that Cadell wouldn’t stay in jail for long, I didn’t expect him to be out so soon

Charles certainly deserved credit for resurrecting the Hartman familyhis methods were as decisive and

effective as ever

Now that Cadell had smoothly overcome this obstacle, so I felt furious

Especially knowing that my mother’s illness was very likely connected to Cadell, my anger had nearly reached

its peak

But it didn’t matter. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down

When Charles met me tomorrow, he would surely bring Cadell along. That would be my chance at revenge

Thinking of this, my emotions settled slightly. Got it. Thank you, Cyril.”

Cyril said helplessly, No need to thank me, Aurora. You’re upset, aren’t you? Want me to teach Cadell a lesson for you?”

I hesitated for a moment. No, I’d rather do it myself.”

Hearing that, Cyril didn’t say more. He offered a few comforting words and then hung up

My mood wasn’t really affected. After all, I would have plenty of chances to deal with CadellI didn’t need to rush

The next morning, as soon as I woke up, I received an invitation from Charles
