Sure enough, after hearing my words, Cadell’s face turned ashen, and his eyes filled with hatred, as if he wanted to devour me on the spot.
Charles looked puzzled and asked, “What money?”
I raised an eyebrow, suddenly intrigued. Could it be that Charles didn’t know about Cadell’s actions?
That would be interesting.
A faint, cold smile tugged at my lips as I spoke. “Didn’t Cadell tell you? The woman he cheated with–Lorna- was engaged before. Just before her wedding, she received nearly a billion as a wedding gift from her fiancé. She spent all of it.”
Hearing my words, Cadell’s expression darkened considerably. He gritted his teeth and glared at me furiously. “Enough! Aurora, stop spouting nonsense!”
I raised an eyebrow, feigning surprise as I looked at him. “Is what I’m saying not true? Cadell, is that how you apologize? At this point, you’re still defending that woman and getting angry at me? Is this what you call a sincere apology?”
As soon as I finished speaking, I saw Cadell’s face contort into a twisted mix of pain and ugliness.
I knew they had come today to apologize because I held the shares, which gave me complete leverage.
In that case, why should I show Cadell any courtesy? He should be trying to please me, not the other way around, right?
Sure enough, the moment I finished speaking, Charles shot a glare at Cadell. “Let her continue! I want to hear exactly how you treated Aurora while I was away–how you made a girl as good as her call off the engagement!”
I sneered inwardly. On the surface, Charles seemed to be standing up for me, but in reality, he was just protecting Cadell.
Cadell’s face turned ashen. He had been eagerly awaiting Charles‘ return, convinced that as soon as Charles came back, I wouldn’t dare fight back, that I’d obediently delete those online posts and apologize to him.
Unfortunately, reality is often different from delusions.
Instead of improving his situation, Charles‘ return only made things worse for Cadell.
The anger and hatred in Cadell’s eyes at that moment were palpable. If the circumstances allowed, I was sure he’d love to sew my lips shut.
Deliberately making things even more humiliating for him, I said in a measured tone, “Sure, I’ll continue. Charles, did you know? On my wedding night, Cadell drugged me and then brought Lorna to our bed. They were caught red–handed by Lorna’s fiancé.”
I saw the anger on Charles‘ face intensify, and I smiled as I continued. “Oh, and you probably don’t know who Lorna’s fiancé is. His name is Edmund Cavendish. After seeing what Lorna did, he was furious and demanded to break off the engagement, asking for all the gifts to be returned–a total value of a billion. At that time, Cadell confidently assured him that he would pay off that debt for Lorna. I wonder if he’s managed to settle it

As I finished, Charles was so enraged that he almost couldn’t catch his breath. He raised his cane in fury and brought it down hard on Cadell’s head. The force was so great that it nearly made his temple bleed.
Cadell screamed in pain, clutching his head as tears streamed down his face.
Charles roared furiously, “You i***t! That’s a billion dollars! And you said you’d pay it off for that woman? I
forbid it! Even if she ends up in prison, I won’t let you pay a dime for her!”
Cadell’s eyes widened. “Lorna can’t go to prison! Grandpa, you know I truly care about her…”
Before he could finish, Charles shot him a fierce glare. “Shut up! Do you even realize what you’re saying?”
Only then did Cadell seem to remember that he had come here to apologize to me. He immediately stopped
mentioning Lorna and lowered his head in silence, his face gloomy and sullen.
But he remained unwilling to give in, gritting his teeth as he said, “Grandfather, no matter what, you can’t just decide this on your own. When I made that promise to Lorna, the media was watching. If I go back on my word now, how can I show my face in the future? Won’t I lose all credibility?”
I clicked my tongue in mock admiration. Well, well–Cadell’s “devotion” to Lorna was almost impressive. Even
now, he was still thinking of protecting her.
Hearing this, Charles was practically shaking with rage. “Do you think a billion is a small amount? Do you
realize the state the Hartman family is in right now? If you give that money away, can the company’s future still be secured?”
Through gritted teeth, Cadell said, “It’s just a matter of clearing things up. Back then, True Love Ring was
such a huge success. Once everything’s clarified, we can climb back to the top. Who will care about that
billion then?”
Charles looked like he was about to explode, but I could see a flicker of hesitation as he began to consider Cadell’s argument.
I watched their debate unfold with growing amusement and decided to stoke the flames. “Charles, don’t let
Cadell get swindled by Lorna. That billion wasn’t even spent on Cadell–Lorna blew through it all and ruined Cadell’s reputation. And now she wants you to bail her out. Isn’t that going too far?”
Cadell snapped, completely forgetting his precarious position, and glared at me in fury. “Aurora! How can you be so cruel? Why do you have to drag Lorna into this? If you have a problem, come at me instead!”
I chuckled and shifted my gaze to Charles. “Charles, if this is the attitude you’re taking, then I think there’s nothing left to discuss. I didn’t come here to be insulted.”
Charles, already furious at Cadell’s words, was now beyond livid. He started furiously pounding Cadell with his cane, shouting as he did, “You i***t! Apologize to Aurora this instant! Do you even realize what a mess Lorna has made of you? If you still want a place in the Hartman family, you’d better sever all ties with Lorna right now! You fool!”
