Chapter 36 I Want to See Philip
It was hard to tell whether it was the tapping of the cane that broke Cadell’s train of thought or some other
reason, but his expression changed slightly.
Then, he clenched his teeth, looked up at me, and said, “Sorry, Aurora, I was too hasty and didn’t think things through. I shouldn’t have treated you that way.”
I raised an eyebrow, responding with a touch of sarcasm, “Words are not sincere enough.”
Cadell took a deep breath and then, in a very serious manner, bowed to me.
Seeing him bow before me was rather amusing.
After apologizing, Cadell took out a gift he had prepared in advance. When I looked down, I noticed a
necklace worth two million dollars.
Although it wasn’t exactly priceless, I still accepted it. After all… It wasn’t something I got for free.
Cadell owed me that much. When he and Lorna teamed up to cheat and betray me, this was the kind of
compensation I should have received back then.
Seeing me accept the gift, Charles seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, then quickly put on a loving expression
and said to me, “Aurora, can we sit down and talk calmly now?”
The discussion had been delayed for a very long time. Now that I had enough fun making things hard for him,
I decided to move on.
I nodded and made my final request. “We can talk, but I don’t want to see Cadell right now.”
As my voice fell, Cadell’s expression changed slightly, and he looked at me with a mix of disbelief.
I let out a cold laugh. Did he really think that after all this, I would still love him?
My sarcasm seemed to sting him, and he snorted, saying, “Aurora, you’ll regret this!”
Regret? I really didn’t understand why he was so confident. What made him think I would regret it?
The mockery in my heart deepened. An i***t like him? He’d better stay as far as possible from me.
Charles cast Cadell a warning look, his voice cold as he said, “Enough. Just leave us. Go tend to your wound.
Where are your manners?”
Cadell responded with a grunt, turned, and left, but not without throwing a glance back at me.
I couldn’t be bothered with him and instead focused my gaze on Charles.
Once Cadell had left, the affection on Charles‘ face became even more apparent, as though he was trying to
soothe me in this way.
He whispered to me, “Aurora, we’ve spoiled him so much that he knew no better and even hurt you badly.
We’re really sorry for that. Please, don’t hold that against him, and don’t let it affect your relationship with the Hartman family.”
I didn’t respond immediately but instead watched him quietly, curious about what he would say next.
He seemed a bit uneasy but quickly regained his composure and continued, “No matter what happens

between you and Gadell, the bond between us still remains, Aurora. Based on that, may I ask you to do me a favor?
His tone was gentle, and I didn’t feel repelled, so I nodded, “Go ahead.”
A flash of satisfaction appeared in Charles‘ eyes, and he quickly added, “We both know you also hold our family shares. If Cadell’s reputation continues to plummet, it won’t benefit you either, will it?”
I couldn’t help but let out a faint smile that wasn’t quite a smile. “So, Charles, what you mean is that you want me to forgive Cadell? Forget everything he’s done and continue to put up with him?”
Charles didn’t expect me to be so blunt, and his face immediately became awkward. “That’s not what I meant. I just wanted to discuss the pros and cons of the situation with you. After all, you should have gotten your anger out by now.”
He said helplessly, “Aurora, we all know your mother’s illness is serious, and you need money right now. If Cadell’s reputation can be turned around and bring more benefit to the Hartman family, you’ll get more shares, which will help pay for your mother’s treatment, won’t it? We’re all adults here. Those small matters shouldn’t get in the way of money, right?”
Charles‘ eyes were full of sincerity, as if he was truly concerned about me.
However, the irony in my heart grew even sharper. Why didn’t Charles‘ family make any gesture when my mother was ill? Not even a word of concern.
Now, when they needed my help, they suddenly brought up my mother’s illness. How shameless.
I curled the corner of my lips into a slow, nonchalant smile. “Charles, though Cadell may not understand these things, you should know that I don’t need money. What you’re saying here won’t move me.”
Charles‘ face darkened instantly, his anger causing him to grit his teeth, and I could even see a flicker of murderous intent in his eyes.
But I didn’t care.
After all, I had already notified Cyril, and Knightfall Group’s people were surely protecting me in secret.
If Charles really dared to lay a hand on me, it would be nothing but a foolish fantasy.
He quickly suppressed his emotions, took a deep breath, and looked at me again. “Aurora, why don’t you tell me directly what kind of compensation you want?”
“It’s simple,” I raised an eyebrow, feeling as if I had full control of the situation. “I have three demands. First, I
want Cadell to stop helping Lorna repay the money she owes Edmund. Second, Charles, please take care of
your grandson and don’t let him appear in front of me again. Every time I see him, it’s frustrating. Third, and
most importantly…”
I paused, watching Charles‘ face grow increasingly grim, then smiled and said, “You know that my mother
has been seriously ill for a long time. I’ve seen many doctors, but none of them could help. So, I want you to
lead me to see Philip. I need the best medical resources to help her.“
When I said the last part, Charles visibly relaxed.
I lowered my gaze. ‘It seems the whole Hartman family and Philip are closer than I realized.
Could my mother’s illness even be related to Charles? ‘If that’s true, then I’ve been helping a bastard all these

I suppressed the rage in my heart, waiting for Charles‘ response.
